SERGIO MENDES (1941-2024) Era una muy agradable noche de sábado, 1991. Yo todavía reporteaba eventos para la Revista Mira bajo las enseñanzas de Arturo Ortega. Los conciertos grandes empezaban en el Distrito federal y por alguna razón, se me encomendó un evento considerado secundario. Pero era sábado en la noche, en casa no me quedaré y mucho menos teniendo de novia a la chica más guapa de la Facultad de Derecho, UNAM, Oficial. Así que Adriana y yo llegamos puntuales a la Sala Ollin Yoliztli, al concierto del maestro Sergio Mendes. 1991 fue un año de cambio sonoro: de Indie, de DANCE, de Grunge, de Madchester y Sergio Mendes no había salido muy airoso de la segunda mitad de los 80, década que dominó a placer hasta 1984 para posteriormente intentar reciclarse. Por eso, las perspectivas no eran muy altas y así se lo comentaba a Adriana cuando las luces se apagaron y la banda tomó el escenario. Después de un tema de presentación en el que toda su grupo se lucía, Sergio Mendes tornó su teclado en un instrumento del amor y recordó que, varias décadas atrás, la Bossa Nova arrasó el orbe con la armonía de una chica muy llena de gracia…y su voz nos narró las peripecias de la muchacha de Ipanema, a lo cual siguió otro himno del Brasil y otro, y otro más… Y la velada fue mágica, tersa, devastadoramente meliflua. Por ahí parecía que un percusionista muy rubio poco aportaba a una banda genial y realizada y así se lo dije a Adriana…y entonces siguió su solo, en el cual el rubio hizo un jardín del Edén formado por el agogô, el rebolo, la berimbau, la caixa y la frigideira, adornando su interpretación con acrobacias arlequinescas y maromas deslumbrantes. Fiel a esa ironía filosísima pero mesurada que la hacía magnética, Adriana me susurró al oído: “¿Y ese es el que no sabe tocar nada?”. Cumpliendo con su promesa de pescador, Sergio Mendes fue fiel a todos sus éxitos en inglés, sin olvidar la canción pop más difícil de ejecutar de todos los tiempos, según un experto: 𝓝𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓻 𝓖𝓸𝓷𝓷𝓪 𝓛𝓮𝓽 𝓨𝓸𝓾 𝓖𝓸. El tiempo voló sin ser sentido, porque al final, cuando no había 𝑴𝒂́𝒔 𝒒𝒖𝒆 𝒏𝒂𝒅𝒂 que ofrecer, todos los asistentes danzábamos, coreábamos, reíamos, festejábamos… éramos muy, muy felices, como deben ser los humanos. Y hoy que el grandioso maestro Sergio Mendes se despide, una ola agradecimiento hacia a él me invade cuando recuerdo con nostalgia esa madrugada bajo las estrellas, caminando en el sur de la ciudad del brazo de Adriana, que refulgía preciosísima, brillante, espigada, radiante, esplendorosa, centelleante, voluptuosa y risueña bajo la luna recortada, mientras decía: “¡Qué padre: cantamos, bailamos, gozamos, qué noche!” Y yo no decía nada, nada, sólo una gran sonrisa recortaba mi rostro cuando en mi mente se repetía millones de veces la letra: “♫ 𝑰❜𝒎 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒈𝒐𝒏𝒏𝒂 𝒍𝒆𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒈𝒐, ♪ 𝑰❜𝒎 𝒈𝒐𝒏𝒏𝒂 𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒊𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒎𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 ♫”.
