Quilling! Years ago I bought some papers and quickly realized they weren't for me - so they sat there. My neighbor at the time was an arts teacher who was having problems finding quilling papers for one of her students. I handed them over (thinking junior grades) but this was a final year student. I was sent pictures of the student's final artwork and it was stunning! Seven years later I still get a warm fuzzy at not heading down the quilling path. If you're not using it -destash!

This was a fantastic video. I especially love that you have the humility to share the times you have done these things as well. I also employ the 'Wish List" idea. Unless it's something I know I will want to buy right away, I never buy it the first time I see it. I also appreciate your advice that we should give ourselves some grace when we do the things we hope not to. The first Never Have I Ever that comes to mind for me is buying a replacement for something before you use it. For me, it is usually a paper pad. If I have one that I particularly like and know I will use, I sometimes buy an extra. But, often times, by the time I've used the first pad for a while, I'm ready to move on and my "extra" sits in the bin unused.

I have also set some things in the “not for me, thanks” category because they’re too messy, too plasticky, unreliable, too much work, or not really my style. I’m still figuring out what I enjoy most so I do forgive myself for buying things I no longer love or things I didn’t need. Now I just need to get better about letting things go - there’s always that sense that I’ll find a way to use a stamp or die, but I’d rather spend my time on and give space to things I really love.

I hate to admit it, but I'm guilty of some of these too. One thing I'm making myself do this year as part of my New Year resolutions is wait. When I first think I want to order something, or buy something, I make myself wait at least 2 weeks before I can buy it. In that 2 weeks I come up with as many projects and ideas as I can to use whatever it is I want to buy. The hardest part isn't the waiting, it's the self honesty required to admit whether I will actually do those projects or not. If after 2 weeks I've admitted I probably won't get to those projects, no purchase. If I do go through with the purchase I've already got a list of projects I'm excited about and jump right into them!

I have done most of these! This year I am refraining from trying new techniques that require the purchase of more supplies. I am concentrating on using up my huge store of supplies. I am limiting my purchases to refilling things that I have run out of and occasionally an additional embossing folder or die if it will help me use the supplies to better advantage. Wanted supplies go on a list. Often I talk myself out of buying them. Totally avoiding expensive sets of stamps,or dies that are expensive. I ask myself “will I want to make enough of these to make the cost reasonable.” Often the answer is no.

I think I have truly done all those things. Some I see as a big problem and some I am ok with. To solve most of it, I started off the year with a "parking lot" spreadsheet for crafty products I wanted. I would write down what I want, why I want it, and why I shouldn't buy it, what I can do instead, etc. Then I had to wait a day. January was fabulous. I put a lot of items in the parking lot, waited a day, and ended up buying almost nothing. But it all fell apart in February. I have re-implemented the parking lot again in March. (for some reason if I feel like I have gone off track mid month I wait until the next month to try to correct that. That extends to other areas of my life too) For CP inks ... I have the full set of full-sized inkpads for Party and almost the full set of minis for Spa. I kind of justify it because I only have Distress (I have never felt compelled to get them all) and CP. It is super helpful to have them all and I frequently do want to use the light medium and darks of different colors. I do hear you that I could still achieve the same results by combining colors or maybe double stamping. But I still don't regret it. But I am not too bad in this area for other craft supplies. I also need to be careful about being too brand loyal. There are a few brands that I especially love (CP, Taylored Expressions. Concord & 9th). I want to buy every new release by default because that is "my brand." I am also working on that.

Right now, I know that I have more than enough supplies, and am challenging myself to buy nothing new this year (except core inks, paper or envelopes that I might run out of). Do you have a website? Or, perhaps the site of one of the groups you work with? The reason I ask is that I have access to - at this time - the stash of a former Stampin’Up gal. She has a 89” “tower” of wood mounted stamps in a 16” x 24” footprint. In other words, A LOT!! I’m sure there are SOME multiples, as she, too, would have to put on classes from time to time. If I can get a feel for what you do, I may be able to help contribute to your avocation. (Wood block MAY be prohibitively expensive to ship, but we can talk about that.). If you see this, let me know what you think.

Trish here, great video! I am so guilty of most of the things you mentioned. Over the past couple of years, I have had to rebuild my craft room, due to a house fire; so needless to say I went a little nuts with my purchases. After firmly establishing that I’m not just a card crafter, I’ve had to reorganize my new room (because it’s way too small) several times. I have been better about not needing everything because of the desire to stay on trend. I’m now more of a believer in your LIMES technique, and in use what you have philosophy. The thing I’m most guilty of not doing, is the big purge. I’m starting the process but it’s slow going. Cheers!😊

I have also avoided both the foiling craze and using texture pastes. I do the same as you; I don't watch any of the videos that showcase either one of these. The other thing I do is immediately delete any emails I receive regarding sales in specific companies. That way I don't see what I don't really need. I have been guilty in the past of trying to top off my purchase with the amount I need in order to get free shipping! I shop only in Canadian companies if possible and a lot of that is online. Now if the website doesn't have most of my desired products and I have to scramble to get enough for shipping, I don't do it. Right now, I am only purchasing things like adhesives because if I don't have it in my stash already, I don't need to make it. I am challenging myself to use scraps and existing materials in my craft room. When those are down substantially, I will purchase a paper kit that I really like and use it right away, mostly for the scrapbooking that I also do. I use it for that until its gone, so often I have a matching and unified scrapbook for the whole year. It works great! Also I will try to only watch technique videos, not kit openings, craft hauls and videos that require specific products from specific companies.

Never have I ever passed up the opportunity to buy birthday stamps or dies. They are now going on my “You have enough” list. I never have luck with embossing sentiments so I bought a glimmer machine (at a deep discount) to foil sentiments. So far I haven’t had big problems with foiling - and I’ve limited my foil plates to sentiments only - and all purchased on sale. I keep a wish list too. It definitely helps curb the impulse purchases. It also helps when I’m at that “free shipping so I might as well buy all the things” space. I, too, try to be better but I do not have your organisation and commitment level as you - your system is amazing! I HAVE made the decision against hot foil (price and environment reasons) and the Cricut and find it easy to stick by it. Love your videos but creative / inspiring and these type of conversational ones. Thank you for making them! Kind regards from Germany, Nicola

I have decided not to buy copies! They are too expensive and I love colored pencils, so why bother, right? So why did I buy a set of slightly less expensive markers? I’m not crazy about them and think I actually get better results from my colored pencils. So, you are right, don’t even start spending money on something expensive just because a lot of crafters use it. Ditto for foiling- I can’t afford to go down that rabbit hole so I have vowed to not buy any foiling supplies at all. This was a Great video. It helps me forgive myself for my spending errors. Ardyth, what a timely video, as I'm going through the process of purging carft supplies, many of which are the result of never-have-I-evers you've mentioned. Too many patterned paper pads, poor quality cardstock, stamps/dies sitting idle...the list goes on. Like you, I have way too many copics/pencils for the amount of colouring I'm doing (or rather, ot doing), too many stamp/die combos that no longer 'speak' to me, etc. etc. I've also decided not to go with hot foiling, so that's a bonus. Instead, I'm now all over dies for sewing with felt! I figure that as my niece and nephew are getting older, cutesy cards won't cut it any more. A cute few bunny, or Easter egg, or rainbow might though. Besides, I like stitching! Anyway...love your video! Another 'got me thinking' gem! hugs~carol

I've learned a lot from this and many of your other videos Ardyth. I only have Catherine Pooler Party mini ink pads, which I love. These being the first quality ink pads I ever purchased, I wasn't aware at the time that most of the pads were too dry when they arrived. Now, facing a huge expense to buy reinkers I decided to think on the decision. I mostly grab pinks, purples, tealy greens and blues. On a lark, I decided to buy my fave 7 color ink refills, but from another brand! This way I could try these colors, for under $30. I will eventually reduce my current ink pad number drastically. Had I known that I would mainly reach for these few color families, I would have never purchased 32 color ink pads. Going forward, knowing I can be happy with just a handful of colors and saving $150 on reinkers I don't really need, I feel this aligns with my tight budget. Lesson learned!!🌷🌷

What a great video, Ardyth! Wow, I feel seen and a little called out! I've done pretty much everything on this list and I gotta tell ya, full set syndrome with inks is COSTLY. You buy ALL the ink pads, then you need to get ALL the reinkers! Here are a couple of mine -- Never have I ever: forgot I had a particular craft supply and repurchased it, not once or twice, but THREE times! Yes, I have duplicates of several stamps and die sets (I must *really* have liked them!), and I actually forgot I had a particular punch and purchased THREE of them! Punches can be expensive! And another one -- Never have I ever: fallen in love with a retired stamp or die set and paid *stupid money* on the secondary market for it! I have a bunch of long retired Sizzix dies by a particular designer, and many of them I paid what their original retail price was, or got a great deal and paid less on the secondary market, but they suddenly have become very expensive and several of them I've paid close to $100 for (which is 4 times their original price!) and about 6 or 8 of them I could not find in the U.S. and sent away to *South Africa* for them! The shipping was pretty insane, but I couldn't find them anywhere else. Honestly, had I known this craft was so expensive I would never have gotten into it!

Wow, Super helpful video and all the comments are either helpful or I laughed out loud!! I have wish lists as well but they are on small bits of paper all over the house! Just yesterday I collected & went through a PILE of them. I was so pleased that I didn't need to purchase 95% them for multiple reasons that you outlined in your video. ONE of the reasons I have things I shouldn't have purchased is that it wasn't what I expected. An example is a die set of scalloped circles. I was thinking I'd get a circle with a fancy edge. NOPE it's a plain circle and a scalloped circle frame. I am trying to research better how a stamp or die will actually work/look now. Doing the research slows purchased as well. Thanks for the helpful suggestions!

Oof, never have I ever is a tough game. I bought a 20 lb. set of rubber stamps to get a few stamps for my knitting journal. I'm planning on going through them and choosing the ones I want. Pass the rest on to others. I am a fiber artist - enjoy knitting, sewing, and doing some paper crafts like journaling and book binding. Just this past summer I bought 2 yards of the same fabric. In other words, I now have 6 yards of that fabric because I purchased it twice after the first time. Obviously, I really like it. And I have so many other crafting items, too. I used to have a Girl Scout troop and obtained a lot of craft items then, I am using them up slowly but surely. Between the grandsons, the 4H club, and doing Make & Take for our county fair, I am using up lots of large quantities of craft supplies.

When I got back into cardmaking, I bought a lot of products I saw in videos. What I bought and don't use - foiling, pastes, bling, washi tape, flower shaping. Those items are my buyers remorse. My only full set is the CP minis. I never bought anything because of FOMO, probably because I have a small craft area. I usually don't buy something for 1 or 2 pieces as I need the whole set to be useable. I think craft storage is another topic. There are things that I have purchased based on others recommendations that worked and others that didn't work for me. Great video.

Im really enjoying this series you are doing with saying no and using what you have. There's alot of crafters out there that do the opposite. It doesn't make those of us who just can't afford to keep up feel very good. But you have done a great job of showing us how not to get caught up in all the hype. I definitely have full set syndrome, but I have always had it. I think it goes with having OCD and that doesn't help. My problem was originally that I didn't have much of anything since 2004. So for 2 years I worked on getting so many things I truly didn't have and needed for a well stocked room. But, I did just buy what someone else used to make a great card and ended up with things that I'll never use. But now I am discovering more of who I am and what really speaks to me. Like I don't have any sea or beach items. A friend of mine and my parents live in Florida, so I could justify it, but it's not my thing other than a cool seahorse or something. So I just don't look at it. Same with alcohol inks. That technique is my all time favorite, but I have too many things sitting around after a resupply to buy something else and no time to use any of it. So, I don't watch much of it and never look at the deals. I do have wishlists everywhere and can't even remember all the places between cards and nail polish! LOL So, as long as it's not in my cart, I'm ok. But I need to crack down alot harder. There's always something I want. Again, I love these videos and they are needed in this industry. With new releases every month from most companies, you can get into trouble quick not realizing how much you ordered. I've done it! So, keep up these using what we have and think about it first videos. I just used a coverplate die in a new way today and it's new. I only made one card with it and I thought of another way to use it and started it today. That is a great feeling! Thanks Ardyth.
