Derek: "I almost died!!" For the record, in today's times you likely won't die even if your appendix does burst. Thank god for antibiotics. Mine burst on a Monday and the following Friday (as in 11 days later) the doctors finally figured out what was wrong with me and took my appendix out. Story below: I was scuba diving in the Bahamas on a bucket list trip. We left port on Sunday and I'm fairly certain it burst the next day while I was underwater (it was the only time I felt anything remotely on that type pain scale), but assumed it was just cramps. Got back to the US that Saturday and my back hurt a bit. By the following Tuesday I began to run a fever. Wednesday morning went to the doctor, they pushed on my right side and it didn't hurt at all. They put me on antibiotics assuming I had some kind of bacterial infection from traveling. Thursday my fever was not going away despite being on antibiotics. Friday, woke up with 102.5 fever, went to the doctor who sent me for a CAT scan. The scan was rescheduled to a later time that day, then read incorrectly so I was sent home to follow up with my doctor on Monday. We got a call from my primary doctor just after we left the cat scan facility, telling us to go to the nearest hospital, where I had emergency surgery that night and took about a month to recover afterwards. Again, thank god for antibiotics because I wouldn't be here without them.
