Hey I'm thinking about doing the quick 10 minute call... do you give advice on building micro saas software products?

I stumbled upon your video about 2 months ago when I started my coding journey. Been at it learning Html, Css and JS (I'm still struggling with JS btw), saw an internship and I sent my resume. Surprisingly they called me for an interview, there I was able to display my coding skills, which I still need so much work on btw 😂 It was silent for a couple of days and on Tuesday I got an offer letter. I'm starting on Monday 😁 it's possible, just keep working and be consistent.

This video is excellent, it encourages me to keep going. I got my first job as a flutter developer three years ago, it was not easy, but it is possible. Now I'm 48 years old and I can say that age doesn't matter, I'm still learning every day and I enjoy it very much. Greetings from Argentina!!

Such good content. I think it’s important to talk about this topic (from seasoned devs) often, because it can sometimes be so crippling. Appreciate the content!

The part about relying on tutorials way too much, memorizing stuff, and staring at blank monitors not being able to write half of what you recently did.........ah I know it too well! It's important to "test" and "challenge" yourself early into your coding journey and recall previous steps taken when implementing features or various language constructs. You have to challenge yourself to write out the basic building blocks, which will then build and stack as you work towards more challenging projects. Testing and challenging yourself along the way helps immensely with retaining material and growing technically stronger. When Lawrence says not to just "code along," that's because the human brain doesn't grow, expand, and retain anything meaningful when something is done too easily as we learn from pain, pleasure, and experiences more than anything. It reminds me of a classic physics "work" example (revolving distance, time, and energy components). Essentially you can have two guys with a suitcase. Guy A can lift the suitcase and drop it right into the original position (0 work performed). Guy B can pick up the suitcase, carry it several meters away, perform any number of actions with it, and then drop it in another position. You can be doing something and physically or mentally not be testing and challenging yourself actively which results in 0 work being done. It's important to move the proverbial mental needle so you gain something useful in the learning process!

Great advice! I consider myself beginner, close to intermediate. But I feel I need to learn a lot more to get a job in coding. I'll continue training but applying these tips! They sound so natural to do, but I think almost nobody does them. Thanks a lot!

My method of retaining is to get to the level that I can explain it to others. Partially this is because my talent stack includes customer support, things always need to be explained. And, working in a team being able to explain something to others adds value to the team. I generally write down my explanation ... in a support environment customers can be emotional and be animated about their situation ... having written down instructions makes it easier to walk those people through to the solution, (even with the distractions of the situation the customer is in). And, is a benefit to the whole team. I imagine many of those people creating tutorials are doing the same thing .... do they forget something on occasion? Do cats fall of objects? Ya, but that's part of life and they can always refer back to their own tutorial.

How did you start? I would like to start my journey in this field any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks
@Jmoney4128 Жыл бұрын
@@JeancTejada hi there! I started off by taking a women’s Bootcamp called SheCodes and really just used KZbin and other free resources to my benefit all while creating my own projects outside of everything else I was doing. Consistency is extremely important! Depending on your current schedule, even just putting a couple hours in per day will be great!

I personally think that note taking is a good strategy cause I try to challenge myself not to rely on KZbin tutorials after watching Lawrence speaks on how he made it to be a software developer

I have more than five years of experience in web development. Searching for jobs for more 13 months. Applied more than 800 jobs. Had more than 100 interviews. Made to the final stage at least 9 times then someone else with ten or twelve years get the job. I know for a Fact newbies should Not for now beat them selves it's Not you fault. Even people with years of experience have no job no income. Let's hope everything will be Fine in future.

What do u mean by documentation? Can you elaborate?
@lemuelteano7791 Жыл бұрын
Just like a washing machine has a manual with instructions on how to use it, programming also has documentation. All you need to do is read the documentation, and you can become a great programmer.

Why do you people do this self-imposed pain? Is it worth it? Is Wordpress not enough when it powers over 40 of websites? Are there valid reasons for doing this other than trying to fit into the spectacle and appear 'smart' and pine to fit into a toxic work culture? Why?
