I caught pro player Yoshidora under the sheet versus top Japan Bowser Hero in SSBU when it came to his Flame Breath. I could not believe how much damage he took after shielding from the get go! The best way to sdi is to wiggle ur stick in quarter circles in the direction u wanna shift towards

My intuition has me believing it would work in some sighing I hypothesize it may not work when your positioning doesn’t allow your characters’s roll distance doesn’t travel far enough to get behind Bowser You might end up rolling right into the flames again Would somebody test this?

@Mimi Because Bowser is so big and the flames are huge on start, I am pretty sure you need to be at least a third of the large flame length or closer to go through. Not sure how much of an influence Bowser's flame has against SDI in.

Possibly but seems v risky cuz I think you’d have to be super close and if you mess up u take like 80% lol

That only happens when you are fully locked into shielding and Bowser’s neutral special has tiny gaps in between the hits.

I guess you have to weigh up a potential OOS punish compared to basically not being able to shield v bowser. I’d personally only take that shield damage if I knew I could kill of it simply because like 90% of bowsers moves could evaporate your shield lol

If you play Bowser, if someone is shielding and you fully connect with downB and they stay shielding, itll daze them and give you time to charge a smash

He took 20% and yes an almost broken shield will always be better than taking any damage. So this is actually the optimal option to go for

​​​​@@cesars.9912 look at his first controlled scenario bowsers neutral b runs nearly the longest time it can by the time you escape. If that's his best mash that's an easy setup you have 1 shield point or very low if this is a read and he cuts it knowing you're gonna try to tech you just got stocked. Bowser gets a free return to neutral and actually gets a tech chase if he knows. Now you're in a critical condition you either force pressure, zone or run he's gonna stun you if you don't and it's gonna be an easy finish not an optimal situation to me

Yoshi doesn’t have any benefits from holding B or another shield button. But tbh the shield damage might not be worth it as Yoshi vs super armor double jump

i dont much if anything about comp smash but i can see 2 reasons here why he got hit. 1 . didnt know the tech, doesnt face bowser 2 . does know tech but finds taking 15 or 20 % then super armouring away more appealing then a shield thats 1 tilt attack, or 1 more fire breath away from breaking. a broken shield at competitive play is way more devastating then 20 percent.

just 1 more thing i noticed, idk if this would have mattered but yoshi was also holding shield maybe a second (a second at best) longer then this dudes recreation clips. but idk i dont care much for competitve smash, looks cool but ppl r hella toxic so eh.

Unfortunately for this to work you need to be full shield and be yoshi - otherwise you'll get shield poked. Either way you're just setting up for a shield break, sometimes it's better to sdi in the flame breath and take the percent (because let's be real, bowser is gonna kill you with a stray hit easily anyways).

Honestly if I SDI by tapping B away instead of rolling it usually helps me not get poked and still get good Shield SDI

This is a good tip to keep in mind. I like how you use pro matches to bring up this type of tech. I also feel that in context of the match, just getting out some and then double jump armoring through the fire was a better choice for positioning, especially since Bowser likes to break shields. This is great to consider though!

Fyi you should pronounce it "Hey-Ro" as that's the Japanese pronunciation, and helps avoid confusion with the namesake character
