Great video! Keep in mind, that genny puts out a high THD. Be careful powering sensitive electronics, which is just about everything today. The Westinghouse WGEN115000TFC has a bit more power output, is TriFuel and the most important feature is a THD less than 5%.

@@marcusguajrdo73 Seems odd that Predator only offfer 90 day warranty and Westinghouse comes with a 3 year warranty if its so cheap why such a big difference. I did some research and most of the Westinghouse are copper wound as well. They do have a few aluminum on the very low end, but most are copper wound I think. I am still shopping around myself.

I keep reading statements like this everywhere but I also keep hearing that it’s not a big deal and people have been using regular generators for decades with no problem. Even the power company has a much larger total harmonic distortion than 5%. I’m still shopping around d myself and don’t claim to be an expert

An electrical engineer tested a 13k tri with a legit meter device and got 6%. Just because predator states the 23% does not mean it is that high. Funny that there is always this comment, duromax reps earning their coin for sure.

Excellent video and I have the same Generator thus, purchased it for this exact same need. It's a dirty sinewave but it gets the job done for the cost value. I'll be doing the exact same transfer switch setup, with the only exception of upgrading to 6AWG for load values vs the 8AWG and never have to look at it again. Thank you for the clear shot video.

@@timnevitt2993 well dirty power does not hurt electronics as most electronics have filters on their input power supply. Next its the voltage spikes that hurt the electronics. Most electronics use 105-240V so any voltage in that area is safe, if the voltage goes above 240V, thats when you have an issue. Next most name brand generators might have "dirty" power but they clean up once they go under load. They are only "dirty" when on idle and no load because there is no reason to be clean with no load. Next a guy here on KZbin did show a champion generator and showed the "dirty" sinewave under idle but when he put a load on it, it cleaned up a lot.

@@stinerart1 I believe that "clean" power is a $$ scam gimmick. And i have seen the sine wave from an inverter generator and its actually CLEANER than the power from the utility. And if the utility power being somewhat dirty does not damage electronics, i dont think a little more dirty power from a generator will do anything. As i said before, there is NO evidence of electronics being damaged from "dirty" power but def YES from voltage spikes

Considering that some high current loads could be active at the time of disconnect, I would flip the generator input breaker at the panel first instead of at the generator. Why? Because opening a circuit with high current flow will cause an arc and the breaker in the panel is more durable than the ones they installed in the generator. It is also easier to replace on failure.

Thank you! I have that panel outside, a 200a sub panel in the shop, and a 125a sub panel in the living area. Most houses have a main disconnect at the service panel outside like mine. It’s pretty crazy but yes, a lot of people could have their entire house shut down from the outside!

Beautiful home and great idea. I did the same thing on my house a couple years ago. Is there a reason you used 8 GA versus 6 GA? 8 GA is rated for 40 amps whereas 6 GA is 55A. Typically use 6 GA wire for 50A breakers. By code around here you’d have to swap out the 50A breaker for a 40 since the wire couldn’t handle the 50A. Just wanted to make sure you knew that. Cheers!
@Create208
@Create208 10 ай бұрын
Thank you! Wire size depends on a few factors, if you are using a romex or cable you would size off the 60 degree chart but because I’m using THHN wiring it’s rated for the 75 or 90 degree chart. 75 degree chart for #8 is rated for 50a and 90 degree chart is rated for 55a. But that’s why the premade cable had to be #6 wiring. because the 60 degree chart. Hope that makes sense!

Those that are thinking of generators, I would recommend this generator due to the price of it, as well as the fact that it is multiple gas if need to be, but one thing that I would like to let people know since I own it, I would know getting more wattage using Gasoline so that 13,000 W is gasoline and on a raisin occasions you can get close to that with propane but not completely with propane you can get about 11,000 W maybe 12,000 W so that’s something for people to think about if they’re looking for a generator is yes you get a generator that gets multiple gasbut each gas type produces a different amount of wattage

The chances of the generator putting out more than 9600 watts continuously (40 amps at 240V) is pretty low. There's circuit diversity factors that can be taken into account. Ampacity is also dependant of the temperature rating of the insulation and the length of the run.
