I'm always creating from a need when it comes to Birthday cards vs. joy. They always come at the most inopportune time, which is tough because I feel it's such a personal card. But I think I've come up with a solution to help set me up for success. Oh, and this is a CARD BANK video...
This video is part of the Birthday CARD BANK! There are four of us that have created projects and tips for you to use as a resource when you need a quick birthday idea.

Actually I changed direction, moved away from buying any more BD stamps and now have a few alphabet die sets in my stash.. so I can 'write' and create tailor-made to what I need. Even more handy if you make BD cards in a variety of languages. ♥ x

I have a hero arts birthday stamp that I like. I’ve also put all my stamps into Evernote and added tags, because often there’s a set of images and they have a nice sentiment along with it. If I’m not using the image I often forget about the sentiment so now I can open up Evernote and do a quick search for “birthday” and go “oh yes that sentiment in the peony set would work perfectly”.

I do birthday cards for the women at church. I get quarterly lists. I am good about those 120 or so birthdays. For my family..... I am SO BAD! I stamp sentiments on die cuts and put them in little squarish containers that I think are meant for leftovers. I have 1 for inside sentiments, 1 for simple strips and other sentiment strips, and one for Christmas. They are not huge. I use a wide variety of stamps for birthday cards. I use a lot of Tim Holtz sentiment stamps that have nothing to do with birthdays. "Life doesn't have to be perfect to be wonderful ". "When was the last time you did something for the first time". I use MANY sentiments for birthday cards. Birthdays are about life. Why shouldn't a birthday card be? I LOVE your gel prints and your cards!!! Your formula is awesome! I have too many parts and pieces. I am trying to use them up.

I too know what you mean when you say you are creating out of pressure and not joy. I tend to wait to long and then have to throw something together! Gonna try not to do this any more and the card bank is an excellent idea. I tend to use florals fr MFT to do cards for ladies. I have a rose stamp of theirs I like. I also like the dimension of the Heartfelt Creations flowers and have started using their products again to start creating cards.I Men cards are harder. Don't do a lot of those and frankly I am at a loss. I typically try to do a shirt or military type card for my husband; but I am running out of options!!!! Little boy cards, I typically do dinosaurs or dogs. Little girl cards I don't seem to make but I tend to use Lawn Fawn or MFT again if I do. Our daughter is 18 now so the cute girl stuff is harder for me too. Thanks for the inspiration!!!! Looking forward to seeing more of your creations and ideas for cards!

Thank you! This really speaks to my soul. For 10+ years card-making has brought me such joy! I love to create one-of-kind person-specific cards, especially for birthdays. And I’ve become known for my cards. But this year I have lost so many people and it’s a hard year to be working in healthcare (not that any year is easy) and it began to feel like creating a card was a forced chore. My joy and creative spark are gone. Maybe I’ve made too many sympathy cards in one year, but I know those who are gone would be cheering me on to rediscover my joy and continue to create. So, thank you for the video... the thought it prompted in me was-maybe to bring back my joy, I could simplify, repurpose items in my left over bins and take some pressure off to make each card a one-of-kind masterpiece...and maybe my joy will return. 💙

Debra, thank you for the work you do. It has been a hard year for so many, and it sounds like your are right in it. Not that you need it, but in case you do, i give you permission to simplify it. I think so often, we want to do the most we can, when just showing up is enough. It is the thought and sentiment that mean the most. The card is just the vehicle. Do what you need to do to lighten that load, and find that spark again. If there is any kind of video I can make that will help, please let me know. Thank you for watching and sharing your struggle with me. 💜😘🎨

I didn’t get into paper crafts and cardmaking until I was out of nursing. I was always creative, but never found a good outlet that fit my skills. I got into this as a way to feel productive after a rather sudden onset of acute pain that eventually left me unable to perform. It has been such a wonderful outlet. I actually had more calls for sympathy cards when I first started. I would love to see someone do a series or a collaboration for that. Blessings to you. Healthcare is probably the most stressful and simultaneously most rewarding career.

@@bevp7838 Thank you for all you've done Bev. Nursing is such a valued profession, some of my closest friends are nurses, it's a hard job. I'm glad you made your way to this art. That is a great idea...thank you for that. Out of curiosity, what are some of the stuggles you have around sympathy cards?

@@IngridBlackburn oh Ingrid, you're so sweet. ❤️ Thanks so much, Nope I’m all good, self imposed pressure.....I had thrown my back out right before Christmas with lots of things to finish and was feeling overwhelmed, with things to finish up and thinking ahead to New Years cards to get in the mail and then birthday cards coming up fast. Thank goodness I only have one birthday in January, ha ha ha. I only have to make it to early January then I can get back into my physio.... yippeeeeee, lots of people out there have it worse than me tho and my husband has been amazing with pitching in with the cooking. More than you asked for right! An early Happy New Year to you and your family, from us in Vancouver. 🇨🇦. Stay safe.

I love the fact that you are using what you have. I believe Justine has made a commitment to not buy anything new and to use what she has. You seem to be doing the same. I am not going to buy anything new but plain paper, adhesive and ink refills in 2021 and am using stuff I already own and backgrounds I have already made. Posted some to IG the other day and plan to post one or two a day. Love the birthday/background bucket!!!

@@expressivepaper Thanks Kathleen, so glad you enjoyed that! Ya, it's kind of been a theme in many of my videos in 2020 - going back to February - use what you got, collecting dust! We all have TOO MUCH STUFF, right? I'm not against buying, we all need new stuff too, but if I have 1000 sheets of patterned paper (probably underplaying that...lol), why do I need more? I don't. SO, use what you got! And then when you DO actually NEED something - I'm running dangerously low on white acrylic paint for instance...it actually feels GOOD to restock something. I need more of THAT feeling...lol. LOVE that you're using what you got. Tag me when you make your own bucket! I'd LOVE to see. Thanks for watching and commenting! 😘💌😍
