look at it this way... the old "classics" will only get more valuable... fifty years time, there sure wont be any "classic" teslas... and any that do survive will be basically impossible to restore... ever tried getting an iphone to talk to an apple IIe? thats a bit extreme... try dealing with a hard drive thats only a few years old... finding a mobo with a parallel port, that sort of thing... ive restored a few vintage "factory trucks" or golf buggies... no issues, clean a few contacts, replace the odd brush, replace the old rubber insulation thats turned to sticky goop... whilst i havent gone so far as to do it on a large scale, i have made a few small lead acid batteries, a bit of sulfuric acid and some lead flashing, no probs... and they generally dont catch on fire! then you consider the barns full of old hulks, or junkyards, with hundreds of cars piled high, no need to do much to them before hand... those old barn finds are invariably capable of running with a jumper battery and a can of petrol... EV, remove the battery, one wrong move and youre gunna look like sara connor on the chainlink fence from the terminator apocolypse scenes...

My last 5 car purchases have been Hybrids (All Toyota/Lexus) all second hand. All 10+ years old. Although I believe Hybrids are currently the best option I don't believe that will be the case forever. When they are all Solid State batteries they should be a lot safer, however thermal runaway is still a danger. I reckon these stories are going to get worse. It's my opinion that we will see much more per cars sold fires from the Chinese Brands like BYD, MG, GWM and Chery. I hope I'm wrong but I doubt their quality control is better than Tesla's.

@@yawenchen8 Alot of the hybrids well the older ones anyway still use lead acid batteries. The EV's do have other options too the lithium Iron Phosphate batteries are way less likely to burst into flames like the Lithium Ion ones do. Solid State is still hype no one has done a large scale battery yet. Lithium Ion is reasonably safe when they are single cells its when they are put into packs of parallel cells they become dangerous as they cant be individually monitored. Most mobile phones have lithium Ion and you rarely see them catch fire.

I dont play or like golf 😂 but one of my mates does, he was telling me the local golf club wont allow people to store electric golf buggys on site at the club due to insurance wont cover it. Home insurance has already gone up at shitload in Australia, wont be long until they say you cant have insurance if you have an electric car or it will be an even more reduculous amount. Doesnt seem to be an issue yet but im sure there will be questions from insurers when you get a policy, do you have an electric car?, electric buggy? E-bike/scooter? Battery storage solar? And if you say no and a fire happens youll be declined.

I believe this has happened because of the hurricane, lots of cars have had water rise up underneath the vehicle when stationary or when driven through water, salt water in particular is a higher risk due to the dried salt reside days later creating a short accross terminals. Zero emission vehicle. Has anyone calculated the amount of CO2 emitted during the complete burning of a Tesla? Has anyone calculated the amount of CO2 emitted by first responders, recovery, highway/building repair and of course emissions from the traffic jam these burn outs often cause. If we really want to reduce our transport carbon footprint we need to keep cars for longer, use enviro synthetic fuel and drop the new car every two years fashion, add into this that EVs carry more embedded carbon when they are made means they need to be kept for longer. hey man, I owned an EV in 2023 and it set on fire randomly after leaving it parked in my driveway (my driveway has a lot of jagged rocks that I was pretty sure my EV could handle). Unfortunately my 42 dogs were present at the time and were attracted by the noises and flames and most perished in the EV fire. Shortly after putting the fire out, it started up again and this time took from me my wife of 18 years. I will never forgive EVs for this. Every EV I see is a reminder of my dead wife and 42 dogs. EVs took all of this from me and EVs will pay. Mind you, I have nothing against other battery powered technology - in fact I love my smartphone and laptop. I sleep with them directly under my pillow every night because I KNOW they're 100% safe. Back to LPG Barras for me.

The short version is, there's currently 21.5Million vehicles on the road, according to "electricvehiclecouncil" website, EVs make up over 180k of those vehicles, that less than 1%. Weirdly these vehicles spontaneously combusting inside of a garage is a relatively new thing.... Is your brain starting to work or do I need to explain things further to you?
