Thanks for covering these things in different states Jon, you're doing a true public service. Melbourne is a combination of extreme totally unabated corruption, extreme enforcement of trivial non-crimes, total ignorance of actual violent crime, endless red tape, obscenely low speed limits and a testing system consisting of following rules but not testing vehicle control. It's going to get worse, too, because Victoria's state government (like other AUS state govs) is high on "speed kills" rhetoric that has been comprehensively and conclusively debunked over and over again since the early 2000s, notably in the high-profile documentary "speed kills your pocketbook". The governments and police forces aren't even trying to maintain any credibility or plausibility that what they're doing is for the benefit of anyone but themselves. The system overall is going nowhere good, fast.

I agree fully with Ross on this one. The speed limits are one of the bigger points for me. The inconsistency from one road to the next is ridiculous. They are supposed to set up the road with a speed limit in mind. There's actually quite a bit of engineering that goes into that, from the spacing of the dotted lines to the width of the lanes etc. But then someone complains and they just go, 'Yep we'll set that 80K road to 60K.' With no argument. Ross should of drove through Brunswick where they have 30Km/h speed limits. That's right 30Km/h. 3:45 It’s even stricter in areas with a 40Km/h speed limit or lower as in those areas if you’re caught speeding just 1Km/h over the speed limit then it’s a $400 fine and four demerit points. If you’re on a probationary license you will instantly loose your license for three to six months for getting too many demerit points. I love Melbourne and have been living here all my life but the speed limits are so stupid. I understand the seatbelt and red light cameras as they legitimately save lives but the speed cameras are such bullshit. There’s no way they do anything to save lives revenue raising at its finest. I’m worried going 2 ks over coz I think I’m gonna get done it’s so shit
@RossReviewsau26 күн бұрын
It’s an absolute joke with such low limits
@anthonywhelan837326 күн бұрын
Maybe it’s revenue raising I don’t disagree But if all the people in Melbourne also learn to drive properly and leave distance between themselves and especially learn to merge like who the hell puts the brakes on when merging onto a freeway and then pulls in front of a semi and slows down so the poor person driving a heavy vehicle has around 5 metres to pull up 30 plus tonnes It’s time to educate drivers not put in more cameras and maybe the licensing body in all states need to put people into a semi trailer training prior to being allowed to get a car licence then they might comprehend what it takes to stop and also the foreigners that immigrant to Australia somehow get an Aussie licence no worries without even being able to read and write proper English so how the fuck can they read our road signs to even drive accordingly Australia is backwards and getting worse in priority about fixing the broken systems
@RossReviewsau26 күн бұрын
Education is the key! Also more police on the road will make people drive safer! Cameras don’t do it!
@AJ7325 күн бұрын
@@RossReviewsau Not really, been driving for 40 years or so and even pre-cameras you had the idiots flying past police cars, doing street drags at traffic lights with police vehicle at the lights heading the other way, etc Unfortunately the idiot minority spoil it for the majority who do the right thing Same with drink driving too, a lot of habitual offenders just keep getting slaps on the wrist for driving without a licence or not obeying their zero alcohol condition Put the habitual drunk drivers and speedsters in jail and maybe then they may care a bit more about the safety of their fellow road users
@AJ7321 күн бұрын
@@RossReviewsau Not going to work, been driving for decades including before speed cameras were a thing and in the past with police sitting in certain spots or even in the early days of speed cameras when they were external to the vehicle a lot of people simply used to hit the brakes upon seeing a police car or a speed camera then speed back up after it so no deterrent at all A study from monash University back in the day when speed cameras first came in showed a decrease in desire to go over the speed limit in the people contained in the study due to the cameras being in place Same reason the cameras along Hume Highway went to average speed at one stage as people would simply slow down when near a camera then go back to their going over the speed limit
@fbboringstuff26 күн бұрын
Worst thing their not even trying if it was about safety not revenue cameras would be in a different areas… I have a local shopping strip 40Kph 24/7, treated as a recommendation… (Would even pap some kids on fu**** e-bikes/scooters, half the time on the pavement) A camera would be shooting fish in a barrel, and as it’s adjacent to a primary school…. Safety is a valid claim! Agree too not enough cops actually doing general patrol. The roads and driving standards are nicer end of 3rd world here in Victoria.

What are u guys complaining about like its hell lol melbourne is one of the best/safest cities in the world. Of course they have lots of cameras . It encourages safe driving in the state and city, otherwise you'd have the roads being like Indonesia . Just dont speed anything over 20 and most of the time they wont book you . The rest of this video is exaggerated and beyond the point and FYI just because they fined you once because you sped down a hill where a camera is shouldnt mean you start attacking the whole state of victoria.

And this is suppose to be "the safest state in the world" for whom exactly? Youth crime rates have skyrocketed, the roads here are absolutely atrocious, the ptv system is horrible cos of the constant delays due to road works that have been going on for years, and the housing situation is getting worse due to bringing in immigrants and having nowhere to put them along with prices are just too expensive. But yea I feel totally safe with the hundreds of red light cameras and the doing 80 in what could easily be an a 100 zone, because "speed kills" or something like that.
