always knew Brent was a Pansage, it all makes perfect sense. The edit of Vern as a chess piece is chef's kiss. This game is Vern's Vietnam flashbacks. But I just love that Diancie's the Queen that she was meant to be...only to be taken out because of an ineffective attack against Nidoqueen. As Professor Google explained in the same frame about why Dark is weak to Bug, Psychic is weak to Bug because of phobia over insects. So phobia is stopping them from doing any real damage to a bug. Also bugs tend to be just simple-minded so Psychic powers are useless. Though certain bugs can be quite intelligent. Ants started farming before humans did if you think about it! Leafcutter ants from Central and South America cut leaves and foliage into pieces then bring the leaves back to their nest in order to break them down and inoculate them with a fungus. They then harvest the fungus and use it as food. Other ants farm insects as well!

Dark is weak to bugs since bugs are apparently heroic in Japan like fighting types and Dark in Japan is called the Evil type. Psychic is weak to bug but they’re not resistant or immune to psychic attacks since they’re still going to fuck you up with their attacks if they get over their phobia.

I interpreted it more as bug stuff causing irritations that break concentration, ghost ectoplasma interferring with psychic energy and dark, depending of the move, is either Night/Dark aura interferring with psychic energy again (Dark Pulse, etc.) or concentration broken by sudden excrutiating pain (Bite, Sucker Punch etc.)

The Party Crashers may have defeated the Underdogs in a collab, but if it wasn't for Little Z, we wouldn't have the chaos that is Pokémon Chess. Just saying! So the Bug beating Dark thing isn't just that there's so many nocturnal insects, but also something else that's just a Japanese mindset. In Japan, there's a franchise called Kamen Rider. Basically they are an insect-themed superhero who rides a motorcycle while defeating supervillains. Kamen Rider has been around since 1971, so it's very much a popular thing there. There was an American adaptation of it called Masked Rider in 1995 to try to bring that popularity to North America, but it did poorly and only lasted forty episodes. So yeah, Bug beating Dark is also a reference to that.

After watching all the Mario Party vids I swear with this group’s shenanigans they belong is some show or series, like imagine something like this - We have Brent - the royal who is always ready for adventure with some sort of guiding thing that helps him “win” the day Nick - another royal and or explorer (depends on how you see it) who has a friendly competition with Brent. The character that’s sassy/makes a lot of quips, while kicking someone who’s already down. Usually in those shows, the heroes designs are often based on bugs such as grasshoppers, ladybugs, etc., and similar to how fighting > dark is fighting crime, bug > dark is those heroes succeeding against the villain. Some bug types are also based on sentai, see Ledian and Lokix.

Idea for the next Mario Party Superstar: Position Target The 4 of you will be designated with a certain position from 1st place to 4th place. You must be get your target position at the end of the game to win. This means that if one gets 3rd place, he must get 3rd place to win, likewise if he gets 1st place, he must get 1st place to win. In case multiple parties won, it will be decided through how much coins one had at the end, to avoid a draw.
