Amanda Bynes is one of the prime examples I point to for how Hollywood chews up child actors and spits them back out. Her, Macaulay Culkin, and Lindsay Lohan all had their lives completely derailed by the stresses of working in an environment as toxic as the film and TV industry and I genuinely feel bad for them for it. It doesn't surprise me one bit how Amanda Bynes descended into substance abuse and mental health problems and I genuinely hope that the day eventually comes when children in Hollywood are able to be protected from ending up like they did.

I have a friend that retired at 24 and he's 34 now and doing completely fine. He has hobbies, reads a lot, goes out with friends and his girlfriend. This isn't about retiring early, this is about drug abuse.

It's not about retiring early, it's about keeping yourself busy after you're done with your job. If you have hobbies, passions, sports or anything else you enjoy doing, why not spend the time you have now on those things? (if money isn't an issue anymore) Sadly, Amanda didn't seem to have a purpose in her life after she quit acting and fell prey to substance abuse instead.

Ive been called ugly many times and treated horrible just for not being pretty, then i had plastic surgery and im traditionally attractive now and let me tell you, the world is a different place... People are really nice, ever door opens, men give me attention, people want to know me and what i have to say, i get health care... Before that i never had that. So, being ugly is actually maybe the worst, but most people are not ugly and they dont realise it has such an impact

Muniz rose to fame from Malcolm in the Middle and quit full-time acting in his early twenties. He now spends his life racing, being in a band, and the occasional movie cameo. You can retire at any age, you just need to have both the wealth/income to sustain your preferred lifestyle and to have a lifestyle that gives you meaning.

I watched the Amanda Show on Nickelodeon as a kid and watched pretty much all of her movies...I was and still am so sad about what has happened to her and I keep trying to stay hopeful that each stint in rehab/getting psychiatric care will help her get out of this awful spiral she's gotten herself into. Only time will tell, but I really really hope she gets the help she so sorely needs and continues to get it so she can stay healthy and find happiness.

It's entirely possible. I am around the same age as her and have had similar addiction and mental health problems. I was an absolute train-wreck in my 20s and even until my early 30s. I only got sober around 3 and a half years ago. I now have a great life, am married and have a fulfilling career, but most of the people I knew who went down my path (I.V. drug use) are either dead or are still fucked. The challenge she faces though is being in the public eye, which I believe makes it 1000X more difficult than people like me.

I retired in my late 20's from the military after an injury... it's not a living hell at all. Amanda Bynes turned her potential heaven into her own real life hell. If you don't make dumb assed decisions you can live a pretty nice life just taking it all in. Being caught up in a career often times numbs a person's ability to connect with what's really going on... which is, almost everything we do is based on an imagined purpose created to cope with the cold reality that, beyond keeping the species going we really have no other purpose. Life doesn't have any goals, it only has purpose... just existing is good enough, a lot of people - most people - forget or never understand this about life and end up wasting their time on a job they took too seriously. Time you will never, ever get back for any amount of money or prestige.

Marijuana triggered schizophrenia for her. It's happening to a lot of young people now, especially since the weed and vapes are so much stronger than they used to be. This happened to my cousin. He smoked a ton of weed (smoking all day, every day) when he was 15-18, and then he went crazy. The doctors surmised that his intense weed use at such a young age triggered psychosis. He's doing better, but he's on a bunch of meds that can make him seem out of it. Go easy on the weed, kids. You never know.

Its not the weed. The problem is sourcing it. It's likely your cousin and Amanda had smoked some laced marijuana along the way. Weed laced with something like PCP or a strong substance could absolutely induce psychosis. I'm not gonna say that weed is harmless and that it isn't habit forming. It is. In lots of people, it lowers drive or desire to be more. Makes you lazy. Also anything set on fire and inhaled is not good for the lungs. Its a waste of money. I smoked for 15 years, recently quit but there were times where I easily spent something like 500 a month smoking. I always had very reliable connections, and was only ever duped into smoking something laced when I was 13. Hit a bowl laced with cocaine. Again, i think laced weed is to blame for psychosis.

I’ve smoked all day everyday since I was 14 and have still been able to hold down a normal 9-5 and smoke on my breaks and I mean I can smokeee but it really does depend on the person. Im now 26 still smoking daily and still able to go about my normal life you’d honestly never know I smoked but my neighbour on the other hand is a 34 year old man who smoked from a young age and he ended up with psychosis because of it and has now been sectioned so again it really does depended on the person. I still think alcohol is worse.

I personally couldn't picture myself retiring and less as such early age. I think you should always have a vocation in your life (not necessarily a wage job or something like that but even that in some cases work), something that give you some kind of motion, purpose and conflict. Give up that by surrebder to your own vices and desires is only going to wreck your life. A life of idleness and hedonism only will end up destroying your body and mind.

It's really important to feel like you're doing something of value with your life. I feel like she would find value in separating herself from the environment she's in and spending time doing some soul searching, in a place that nourishes her soul. She's clearly miserable, with no other way to cope or occupy her time. She's a charismatic young woman, with incredible talent. Maybe the limelight just isn't a healthy environment for her. I'm sure there's ways she could make great contributions to something incredible, and also avoid scrutiny on a grand scale which she cannot cope well with. If she had a core group of people that cared about her well-being, I bet she'd be golden.

This breaks my heart everytime I'm revisited with the fact that this was what went down. I remember when I was a child and I used to watch 'The Amanda Show', always found her remarkable in more areas than one. I remember watching Hairspray at the Cinema and wowed because of how beautiful she was.Good acting ability, charm, very beautiful. Infact, I used to think she was one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen then boom a massive decline.. She doesn't even seem like the same person remotely anymore, her face changed, her expression changed, her personality seems different (not that I knew her) and even her voice has changed.

It's incredibly difficult to witness the undeniable demise of an incredibly successful, beautiful, kind, witty young lady and how horrifyingly she was treated by the entirety of the media, scoffers & so called friends and family, and I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that there was something far, far more sinister at play that was the reason for such a catastrophic spiral of unnatural proportions in this young ladys life, and all played out on the world stage for the stupified masses to revel in her demise. It was one of the most unpleasant events to see unfold. I wish her every success & hope she finds the peace she so richly deserves.
