The worst part of James is people rooted for him when he was genuinely being canceled by other makeup icons who were trying to "expose" him but then revealed himself to potentially be exactly what they were accusing him of being. Absolute scummiest move was posting a "taking accountability" video only to delete it after the heat died down so his new viewers wouldn't see it.

As a gay man I find it so absurd that people would actually go after straight people. I have straight friends I would probably be in love with if they were bi or gay, but to actually go after them would be absurd, and goes against a lot. The fact he had experience with getting straight guys is also concerning, which means he knows how to manipulate people into questioning their sexuality. That manipulation ability means I'm not surprised he would go after a 16 year old, I hate people like this that just make the entire community look bad.

Edp445, dan schider, many many more straight men are free, yet you guys dont want to hold the same energy. Their sexuality never gets brought up so why does it happen to james charles? James has a predominantly child/teen audience, but when he does this shit it's just cancel culture. I work with kids and if accusations were sent against me I would be suspended, investigated and yeeted from my job more than likely. Being an influencer/celebrity is not a free pass to do this shit to children. I forgot about this for 7 months and holy thanks for the likes! I just wanted to add it just makes me sad and angry James choose to use his influence the way he does. A lot of my teen beans, especially my LGBTQ beans look up to him as a role model. They see a confident gay man. James has said before he didn't realize how much influence he really has and the impact he has. But really he still DOESNT. He has the power to literally lift up an entire generation of young queer youth and yet he uses his social media like a tinder. I'm a 24 year old non binary queer bean so I'm essentially a gay elder at this point (lol) and even in my work when I work with children and they talk to me about this kind of stuff you see the difference when it clicks in their minds there are adults who are like them, living happy lives. They begin to see they have a future and I know in even my own small capacity I have made a difference. I make the choice everyday to be the most positive influence I can given my typically not positive circumstance that lead me to working with the kiddo. Tati only came for James because he wouldn't promote her gummy vitamins (which everyone was very disappointed about when they were released) and she felt he owed her publicity. It's tough to swing properly when, fundamentally, you're not bringing these allegations to light to protect anyone you're doing it to sell stupid vitamins. I actually think the whole "disgust at gay man pursuing straight men" is a stupid angle anyway. If they're men, they're adults, and they're more than capable of refusing advances. There's far less outrage over straight men pressuring lesbians. The issue is his pursuit of minors, obviously. That's unforgivable. But Tati didn't go after this.

Yes! With KZbin, pretty much every creator has a limited ‘career’. There are very few creators that are able to maintain a high number of subscribers and interest over, say, 5-6 years. That is how social media works, by nature. Could the span of James Charles career been longer? Yes. Should his predatory behavior have harsh consequences? Yes & Yes & Yes. Did he do this to himself? Yes. Also, it’s kind of terrifying the type of behavior that is tolerated on social media, contrasted with the ‘zero tolerance’ in real life. JC crossed the line repeatedly, with no end in sight, even now. _Sorry for the essay, but good point!_

I think the problem is more that their apologies are consistently hollow and inauthentic, even on face value. I've been watching a video series by Mickey Atkins who is a licensed therapist, analysing apology videos, and they're consistently low-effort and fail to demonstrate actual personal growth on the wrong-doer's part. But to be fair, it takes a very careless or predatory person to be doing the stuff that warrants a public apology video to begin with, so I don't really think it's the apology itself that's condemning people to irrelevance and shame but more the personality that led them to do unacceptable things.

What bugs me is the response to him inappropriately speaking to minors. As an adult it is always your responsibility to make sure you don't commit a crime. The "I had no idea" is never going to be a valid excuse. The reason why there are laws against indecent behaviour with minors is to protect the child, the victim, not the perpetrator. There is something very inherently wrong with him saying "I'm attracted to the absolute youngest" that people just don't seem to hold him accountable enough for. Dispicable.
@florapawz26042 жыл бұрын
you are totally right. hell, if i come across someone who looks pretty in a dress or something on tiktok i ALWAYS check for an age, because even if i’m just complimenting purely in a platonic sense, i cannot imagine calling a child pretty. it’s not that hard to check social media to make sure the person is the age they say they are. and even if you do get caught out? that’s on you. it’s never the minor’s fault for an adults transgression
@Spiney092 жыл бұрын
@@florapawz2604 I can imagine very specific situations where an adult could be in the clear, like if the minor didn’t have an age listed on any platform or if they didn’t have other social media that listed age, and were intentionally hiding their age. I'm really not a fan on James but I also think people focus on the wrong behaviour. I find it despicable that he says he's into heterosexual men because it perpetuates this trope gay men like all men and not having preferences. That he flirted with 16 year olds is simply not an issue for me because I come from Austria. Once you are 16 there is no age limit for your sexual partner and a 5 year age gap is nothing unusual. I’m not defending him but in many States and Countries consent is age 16. Not sure how any of you forgot that. The double standards are ironic though, you’ll put a 16 year old in prison or fine them to debt for multiple crimes because “they are old enough,” but will call them a minor when even consent laws exist that give consent to those who are 16 years or older. Not defending James, but many of you are just as braindead as he is. If not worse.

I’m not defending James nor am condoning dating a 16 year old as an adult (ew, why?) But here we go; “There aren't any laws around being in a non-sexual relationship where one person is under 18 and the other over. Once you turn 16 it's not illegal for someone to have sex with you no matter how old they are.Feb 19, 2019” - Child Line, UK “Although 16 is the “age of consent” in Washington (meaning anyone who is at least 16 years old is deemed old enough to legally consent to sex), the law does have some exceptions. While in many circumstances it is perfectly legal for an adult to have consensual sexual contact or intercourse with a 16-year-old, there are some circumstances where it is not. Most often, it comes down to the nature of the relationship between the two individuals.” - Washington, USA To me its ironic, ya’ll will throw a 16 year old into prison, they can’t drink until 21, but somehow, they are children when it comes to sex lol. What James did was wrong but you fools need to not be as brain dead as James is. Grooming is one thing, calling a 16 year old in a state or nation where they can legally be arrested for a crime, and can legally consent a child, is another. Please be consistent people, either their too young or their old enough. I sweat Western Nations are idiot central. ..

as a victim of grooming, i will say this and this only. James admitting to it, owning up, and saying sorry in one sense or another is something a LOT of victims don’t get. They watch their abuser continue on with their life, pretending it never happened, denying everything and doing anything in their power to keep it a secret. A lot of times victims watch their abusers deny until they die. James is still an awful person. Months away from 19, and i throw up in my mouth when i think of 16 year olds. Predators have a mindset and a justification that can’t be explained. I don’t know how people think the way they do sometimes. I think James should maybe start seeing a therapist, and figure out where tf these feelings come from. As well as how to properly deal with them. AND pay for the mens therapy as well. That’s no different from what victims hear constantly. Plenty hear that the person says they had sex or sent messages. His content is still declining a month later. His most recent video (2 weeks ago) got only about 840K views. Which is a lot, but for his sub count, and in comparison to his previous view count, Is extremely low. And a video he made 3 months ago only has about 730K views. And a video he made with someone else about 7 months ago has less than 600k views. On his videos that “do well” I guess you can say, it’s still under 2M, when he used to get 10-20M. Being a straight male, I have my search settings set to only show me women. But one day I was swiping and I came across a verified profile of James. Which means that he has himself set as a woman on tinder just so that he can have a chance to match with straight men. Ended up swiping right just cause I had to know and sure enough, we matched. Celebrities need to figure out how to actually apologize. A long ass paragraph isn't going to make people forgive you. If it's an important thing, just say "hey, I did (insert bad thing) because (insert honest reason) I realize now that I shouldn't have done that, and I'm sorry that I hurt (insert person/people who were affected)" end of story. Mine can be improved but that's the basic outline, give a sensible reason, say sorry ONLY to the person who was hurt, and move on.
