We are making progress on scrappy. This episode I show how I modified my frame to allow me to mount a 780 cubic inch Lycoming engine to a Carbon Cub. I’m also going to need a way to use all of that power...

Scrappy is heart pumping. But I hope you do an old seaplane one day or redesign . Old ww2 german or Catalina.. as thought out as Draco. But a sea dragon. Then again. I love redesigning core thoughts. You attacking a ridgid airship for long duration and hard weather, OR speed. would be epic as well.

I have read statements by a big name in the history aircraft engine technology and development. He stated that the performance of the B-2 based on the engine specs are impossible. The numbers don’t add up by, at least, an order of magnitude. Basically a huge performance differential. He stated that the B-2 would have barely enough power to get airborne based on the engine power and fuel burn specs vs aircraft weight. This guy is a well known and highly respected authority on aircraft piston and turbine engine development. I believe his name is Bill Gunston? His statements were reported for a short while after the B-2 was revealed to the public. Since then? Crickets. I think he got the STFU visit from the “Men in Black”. 👀👽👀 So, either there is another source of propulsion on the B-2. Or the engines produce a tremendously higher level of power output for a given amount of Jet fuel consumption. Possibly an incredibly more energy dense fuel? Or using some of the power of the standard jet fuel in the engines to produce a much more efficient wing with much less drag. Or the B-2 somehow behaves like a much lighter aircraft than it actually is. Hmmm? Maybe Electro-Gravitics? Basically, the B-2 is a giant wing. Improvements in lift/drag give more performance per pound of weight vs a standard aircraft configuration. Increasing the airflow over the wings by using a very high voltage potential difference from the leading edge compared to the engine exhaust and/or trailing edge. Increasing the flow of ions over the wing. Maybe significantly enhancing and/or accelerating laminar flow over the whole wing surface? Eliminating loss of lift from airflow separation due to turbulent wing surface airflow? And/Or eliminating the drag and flow losses of a standard boundary layer? Use your imagination. I’ve used mine and have some ideas and opinions. But we all know what opinions are like.

Amazing work and very interesting content, I am looking forward to see this aircraft flying! At 16:40, you say that a conventional propeller would start to “cavitate”, the correct wording is when the boundary layer of the propeller starts to separate. Cavitation in only happening in a liquid, when this phenomenon takes place, the liquid transforms in gaz bubble in the area where the pressure is very low. In your case we talk about a separation due to an adverse pressure gradient developing on the suction side of the blades. When this occurs, the thrust will start to decrease whereas the torque will keep growing exactly as you describe in the video.

So I didn’t like Mike much when I first watched him. Thought he was a bit of “Hey !Look at me!” . I was wrong. Mike is very knowledgeable and wants to share his knowledge. Sounds more like someone you would want to hang out with. A really great guy . Thanks for sharing your journey with all of us Mike! Back To Work!

Mike. You are a machine! If half of the world had your enthusiasm, drive, and stamina and just plain old common sense approach, we would have no problems at all! Keep building. You are my inspiration. Very exciting build and I can't wait for the next installment and the eventual unveiling. Too Cool!!

Let's see... Acceleration is the number one priority. Don't care about top speed or fuel consumption. Its almost as if scrappy is going to be a purpose built STOL drag plane. Just in time for the new STOL Drag class at Reno in 2020.

I consider myself lucky to have met you at Oshkosh a few years ago when you had an earlier iteration of Turbulence parked near the EAA Pilot Proficiency Center. You were amazing to speak with even then. Your ingenuity and drive are just amazing. What a gift to the aviation community. Please, please, keep it going!

Hey Mike, you inspire me and my twin brother to do better and fly more! We started a small grass cutting business and bought a plane with no idea of what we was doing and now have a job lined up flying commercially and a A&P licenses! You inspire us to do great things! Love the videos!

I love the way your thinking Mike, the analogy of big hot sliks on a hot paved dragway was perfect to compare the props. I cant wait to see how you tackle the tail section without making it to heave.
