It's actually the festival of NAVRATRI it is a 9 days festival , in this goddess Durga is worshipped and there is specialised dance that is performed called GARBA ,it is specifically the dance of GUJARAT but is performed all over India with the same energy, there are specific steps in garba like CHAAR TAALI , DO TAALI , CHAKDI , DASIYA , PAACHIYA etc that's the reason why everyone are doing same steps and it feels like it is choreographed , each and every indian knows these steps and are always in sync , That's its beauty ,there are different garba fests arranged this is one of them . ✨✨ I just love navratri and GARBA is the bestttttt 💕✨✨✨

2:37 yes its the crowd . Its because of the festival NAVRATRI celebrated for 9 days and this dance form is GARBA which is a type of group circle dance. The dance style is performed by the entire community in public gathering places Navratri not only symbolises the victory of good over evil but also celebrates the spirit of Indian culture in its togetherness. People wear traditional and colourful dresses, sing folk song and play Garba and Dandiya.

This traditional Gujarati folk dance is called Garba. Most of us (Gujaratis) know how to do Garba. And it comes naturally whether girls or boys, young or old, everyone loves Garba. It is performed during the festivals of Navratri. It comes naturally, is (mostly) not choreographed.... 👍🏻

It's Navratri (Nav means 9 and Ratri means nights) It's a 9 days festival where we celebrate 9 forms of Goddess Durga..Its basically from Gujarat ( a state in India) but is widely celebrated all over India.. And at night we celebrate it by performing dance form called garba and dandiya.. It's a traditional gujarati dance form ..That's why the steps were in so sync because they all were performing garba .. It was mostly the crowd that was dancing ..We perform garba and dandiya on various songs (mainly gujrati folk songs or few bollywood songs even ) there are concerts of falguni pathak during navratri where she performs for 9 nights while people come to enjoy, dance and have fun and just enjoy the spirit of the festival.. Other do it too but her dandiya concerts are most popular during Navratri and that's why she is called as dandiya queen..

Indian festivals are pure fun unlike any other festival you've celebrated ever. Those dances are not choreographed chances are most of them met eachother there for the first time, it's totally impromptu and thats the beauty of Garba. You just follow the steps dance in a circle and then change and do the same and everybody is somehow in sync.

So navratri is a 9 day festival, where people pray godess and her power... and gujarati people, from the state of Gujarat perfom their folk dance, called garba, in such huge crowd to welcome godess and then pray her. it has influence on various other states and the one which you saw was from Mumbai, maharastra. The fact that people were so in sync is because garba has various fixed modules of steps be it a 2 stepped one or it can go till n numbers which people perform in loop in circles..as you saw.. there are numerous such modules and people naturally learn it by watching other people do it and join with them.. this way they interact and meet people as well.. it's the most awaited festival for Gujaratis.. it is held in sharad month of hindu lunar calender which falls near November and October.. so it just happened a few weeks ago.. i was so waiting for your reaction.. you should definitely check more of it.. and you should check out various songs from Gujarati movie industry as well.. it isn't established enough but has great examples of songs.. thank you.. hope you learnt about it..

It's not exactly just a "concert". It's a "Garba" night. Garba is the folk dance of the state of Gujarat, India. So, "dance" is the main highlight of this festival "Navaratri". And everyone knows the steps because it's a folk dance and you grow up doing it at every festival. Also, in Indian schools' cultural festivals, folk dances of different state are represented through various performances often. So, people from other states also know the dance. In different localities and societies, music and songs are played for the dance, either live by a local or they bring a famous singer (if it can be arranged) or they just play it through a music system with big speakers.

The lady FALGUNI PATHAK is a Gujarati from the Western State of Gujarat. This is a Hindu festival that last for 15 days before Diwali. People (thousands - ladies, gents, girls and boys) get dressed in the colourful local attire and assemble in large arenas dance to the GARBA DANCE. This happens during the Navaratri Festival. The dance is called "DANDIA", as they used colourful sticks while they dance Garba. Most of the songs sung already known to the crows as they are old folklore songs meant for the dandia festival. Enjoy, yet another side to Indian music and dance ....

India's Hindu festivals are different than the other religions. They are pure joy ( without liquor or any vulgarity of the western parades ). Hinduism and the culture is very deep rooted , hence Muslims could not convert India after hundreds of years, which they could for Iraq, Iran, Egypt in few years. Hindus don't butcher goats or turkeys during their festivals. It's clever way of ecological balancing which the West has not understood yet. Hindu festivals are rooted in spirituality, to connect yourself with the Supreme. The video which you saw is commercialization of the Garba and dandiya which used to take place in every housing society in Gujarat, India or wherever Gujarati people resided in the world ; with traditional musical instruments like Dhol, Shahnai, Manjira etc. But, it's been overtaken by such Commercial garba grounds in last 25- 30 years. Still , it's a great way to enjoy with friends and family by accepting modern synchronization s, without loosing it's core. Indian festivals are 100 times better than western. See Halloween which comes during the same Navratri time. Mostly, it appears to have developed in the west to denigrate ancient Hindu practices followed by pre-Christian ( called Pagan ) culture. Same with April fool day on 1st April when the New Year was shifted to 1st January from 1st April.

By the way I only attend garba dance once in 2019 with my friends who taught me garba like just match your leg movement with others and hands is not necessarily to match so I match only my leg moves and hands movement is like whatever I want. But in my first day it was really struggling for me and little hard fir match leg movement, I hit so many people that day. And My steps are really different from others. I only do once garba in my school in cultural dance competition with chreography. I feel like garba is easy but in real garba ground in 2019 I'm exposed or u can say reality check.

Addressing your comment on “‘choreographed” - it is not. There are certain garba basic steps and fundamentals. Then any 1 enthusiastic person begins a pattern of steps and everyone else follows. For garba regulars it is easy-peasy. And also, it is a Hindu (more accurately SANATANI) festival where we revere the Goddess in her 9 different forms that represent her 9 most powerful characteristics. Sadly, the shoes go in the middle of the circle so they are not misplaced, kicked separate or sometimes stolen. TRADITIONALLY the circle is meant to go around with the Goddess at the centre.
