Honestly I love when you guys show mistakes. I'm really hard on myself and this stuff helps bring me a peace of mind. At least you know in the future and you taught us something too!

C&D makes some self piercing saddle tap valves that would have helped a lot in this scenario. It’s good to keep some in the truck so you can gauge up on your first visit.

Well done Buddy, who doesn't make mistakes. That unit is working it's on it last legs
@chicanoazteca86142 жыл бұрын
That makes sense. When I saw you pull out the port, it looked like it was completely blown out. I was wondering why the entire charge wasn't lost. Didn't make sense to me, but after you said the gasket was somehow inside and creating a blockage that made sense. Never seen that one before! Those damn ports always leak. I do the same and just throw a brass tee on them. Cheapest and fastest solution to that problem!

On the Those units theres usually always a label with refrigerant type and how much inside the compressor panel. Its the one on the bottom right on it. Just a little tip to know. 😊

These many different electrical systems in the US (like this high-leg delta system) are always fun. Here in Germany you have 230/400V. 230V phase to ground, every household single-phase outlet has that and 400V phase to phase. That's all you get, you don't get less than that. You don't get split-phase power out of a three-phase system with this fancy neutral point connection and higher voltages like the older 660V (now 690V) systems are in industrial use only.

I have the vp87 and youre not supposed to store with oil in pump. Says it in the manual, reason is because the oil resevoir is always open to atmosphere so your oil will absorb moisture and your following pulldowns will suffer because of it. Just drain each time even if you plan to use the oil more than once.

Don't know how old this one is, as I just found it, but my advice to you is stop beating yourself up. I have been doing heavy commercial all my life. I can tell you about some major mistakes. As long as nobody gets hurt, you are good !
@Syphonfllter2 жыл бұрын
"I'm not doing all that again." I hear that, but sometimes you don't got a choice man. Happened to me last week replacing a oroa valve, no leaks then liquid pushed a pinhole leak through the receiver side, probably nitro pressure building while brazing. Shit sucks, but it is what it is.

Always have to cap a cormax fitting when recovering or pulling a vacuum or the large piston like valve acts like a check valve. Fortunately I learned this lesson while recovering from a condemned unit.

@jesseh55542 жыл бұрын
In a pinch like that you can use your recovery machine and push the refrigerant in the liquid line. Obviously do with the unit off. On bigger RTUs and such that's usually how I charge the whole thing.

I think I've heard of that. Haven't tried it but thanks for the tip

It's wild that you consider this RTU "old". Nothing running 410 is old. Not uncommon to see units from the 80's and 90's around me. Heavy stamped plates. I would never consider replacement on that unit especially with working compressors. Why not throw a bead on the leak on the evaporator while you have the gas out?
@ReliableHVACR2 жыл бұрын
They buy their own equipment, it's up to them. I always give quotes for proper repairs but once it adds up they just go and buy a new one instead. Condenser was getting brittle, only good thing is the compressor but for how long.

@ReliableHVACR2 жыл бұрын
That was my call not to. But you should. I didn't need nitro and torches for the repair so I didn't do it. It's an old unit they probably want to replace instead of more money going into it. The bill was already sky high.
