The reason the brush pen isn’t as juicy is because it’s a Japanese calligraphy pen. The inconsistent ink is meant to emulate a brush stroke.

finuriel some people use it in conjunction with water colors for a dream like effect. It’s also used to emulate old Japanese paintings. Generally speaking when it comes it art it’s very situational

I just wanted to explain that the Japanese pen literally says "Beautiful writing", it's a calligraphy pen, it's not supposed to be juicy because calligraphy needs those "dry patches". I'm not saying it's your fault for not understanding, I'm just wondering why the pen was included in an art box (not to mention without explanation)

Yea while I was watching I was like the pen's not bad quality it's suppose to do that lol I personally like using brush pens like that for art because the lines look cool imo with some dry brush strokes here 'n there but if you go slow you don't have to worry about "dry patches" if you don't want 'm

You did a great job with not-so-great supplies. I love my Sakura Jellie Roll pens. I’ve found the trick is to wait for the green ink to dry for a couple of hours before putting the white ink on top. I also keep a piece of rough sketch paper handy to prime the white pen. They don’t like to be used on some types of paper. It sound like a lot of work, but I love these pens! If this is your first bad box from this company, I’d give one more box a try.

Actually they can theoretically work amazing together. You can draw the negative space with a white crayon on a white page. And then with coloring you can only color the non waxed parts which can create some cool effects.

It turned out super well, even with meh supplies. I received this artsnacks box as well, but my acrylic marker was neon orange. I use the sakura gelly roll pens, and they work a bit better when you do smaller streaks, and don't go out of the color if that makes any sense. It also helps if you scribble after using the pen, so it gets the color off of it. Also, going over the pen a few times helps make the white pop!
