The reason the brush pen isn’t as juicy is because it’s a Japanese calligraphy pen. The inconsistent ink is meant to emulate a brush stroke.

It's not exactly for doing art, more for calligraphy. Still don't get it why they put it in the box..

finuriel some people use it in conjunction with water colors for a dream like effect. It’s also used to emulate old Japanese paintings. Generally speaking when it comes it art it’s very situational

It's also crazy to hear that it's $8 in the States. That's much more than what it's worth in Japan (~¥200). I think that is why some people would be "disappointed" in it.

I got those exact Graphix pens but in a Sketchbox and they were watercolor ones! It seems like such a boring box to me 😬 especially considering they aren't working well together?! I LOVE the shattered effect you did on this (and your nails are cute!!)

I just wanted to explain that the Japanese pen literally says "Beautiful writing", it's a calligraphy pen, it's not supposed to be juicy because calligraphy needs those "dry patches". I'm not saying it's your fault for not understanding, I'm just wondering why the pen was included in an art box (not to mention without explanation)

Yea while I was watching I was like the pen's not bad quality it's suppose to do that lol I personally like using brush pens like that for art because the lines look cool imo with some dry brush strokes here 'n there but if you go slow you don't have to worry about "dry patches" if you don't want 'm

Actually they can theoretically work amazing together. You can draw the negative space with a white crayon on a white page. And then with coloring you can only color the non waxed parts which can create some cool effects.

You did a great job with not-so-great supplies. I love my Sakura Jellie Roll pens. I’ve found the trick is to wait for the green ink to dry for a couple of hours before putting the white ink on top. I also keep a piece of rough sketch paper handy to prime the white pen. They don’t like to be used on some types of paper. It sound like a lot of work, but I love these pens! If this is your first bad box from this company, I’d give one more box a try.

The brush pen probably has a slower ink flow, so you could use it longer on paper without creating an ink blob.

I watched two videos of yours both with the kuretake brush, just want to share something about traditional chinese and japanese painting (although i'm not an expert haha). i think they make the "drying" of blush purposely, because they use it as a technique to draw things like rocks or tree branches, showing highlight or contrast. Would be fun to see how this can make your art interesting! :)

oh, I LOATHE the 05 Gelly Rolls. They're scratchy and all they do is scrape ink off. I personally prefer the 10 Gelly Rolls the most because they're much more juicy and add highlights more easily imo.

I was really looking forward to it because their October boxes tend to be really cool, but I was super uninspired by this one. my Amsterdam market was also a neon orange so I like your color way more 😂 what you did ended up turning out really nice though!! good luck with the rest of inktober!

Gasp the acrilic marker you got was green? Hmmmmm I got an ugly looking mustard yellow 😢 that green looks so prettyyyyyy oof I'm also sad cuz this was my first art subscription box 😔 but it's okays! I will probably get another box in December or something lool
