In this video snowboard review I am testing out the Never Summer Proto Type 2 at Keystone Resort, Colorado. This review was actually filmed on the last day of the season at Keystone for 16/17, and as you can see conditions were solid all the way to the end. We had a nice variety of variable snow, groomers, and an awesome terrain park to test out this snowboard. The Proto Type 2 offers a rocker dominant profile, true twin shape, asymmetrical sidecut, and medium flex. This combination gives the board a bit of a playful feel while still providing lots of stability and support in high impact scenarios. Let us know if you have any questions in the comments below, and make sure to check out the written review on boardarchive.com. Thanks for watching!

I bought this board 3 weeks ago after extensive research and deliberation, I decided to go with this board in the 2018 version, and ooooooh myyy god. This thing rips through carves and east coast ice like no other. I got one day on it but that was all that was needed for me to know I made a great purchase. I taught myself switch in a matter of hours with this thing, improved my presses, and my jumps. This thing can do it all! Plus the graphic is pretty sweet in my opinion! Shout out to Never Summer for making an awesome board.

Nick R. I agree. I rode East coast too and have the 2018. Sickest board I ever owned. And the grippy tip sheet is sick not having to put stomp pads on it since it’s so nice to look it with colors

Hi, you described the Funslinger as catch-free. Do you think Proto is also catch-free when straight lining/Buttering or is it less forgiving? Also, I know it carves well, but do you have to exert much pressure during carves, and will it leave you exhausted after a day on the mountain? For example, I can carve all day on a Lib TRS and feel fresh the next morning. But for some reason, the Travis Rice Pro kills my feet after a modest run, as I think it has much greater torsional rigidity. I hope my question makes sense. BW, J

Jon Volta I've been watching a lot of reviews because it's so damn hard to buy a board without riding it . Pretty sure I saw somewhere that if you get lazy this board will toss you. Also saw that it's suppose to have great pop but saw more than a few reviews that said it has average pop.
@CultureKids1
@CultureKids1 6 жыл бұрын
This board is absolutely catch free. I've never had problems catching with this board even when buttering at higher speeds. It's a bit above average pop I would say. More of a skate style pop then a true snowboard load up the camber and let it throw you kinda pop.

i have never tried one but i have seen that board under 400 somewhere (can´t remember where) im guessing for that price and the tech the board has is a good choice...... just know that it does have positive camber (i learn with positive camber and it makes you pay when you make mistakes, so be ready for some pain, lol)

Hi, i am 6ft 1 Inch , I will buy this Board, got 10.5 Us salomon dialogues and small weighing just about 80kg (170lbs?). I can choose between 155X and 157, what would be the bed option? 65% groomers, 25% in Deeper snow off the tracks and 10% parks, but mainly jumps. Thanks! :)
@CultureKids1
@CultureKids1 6 жыл бұрын
I'm 5'9, 175 lbs with a size 10.5 Burton Ambush boot and own the 157. It rips everywhere, I rode all last season in the Austrian Alps and used this as my powder twin and park board (mainly jumps). It does great! I will say I would prefer full camber under foot for jumps 50+ but this still held up great on 50 footers. It's a perfect powder twin though since the nose and tail are pretty wide 👍

Given your stats, take a look at the NS Ripsaw. It is a true twin and has the same camber profile as the Proto Type Two but is a stiffer board. Stiffer will feel more stable and generally better than a mid flexing board for your someone in your weight range. You'll lose the asym sidecut with the Ripsaw but your legs will feel much better at the end of the day. I definitely would not recommend a 154--much too small for you. It would feel unstable, have poor edge hold and transmit more bumps and vibrations to your legs. I'm guessing your boot size is 11+, so size-wise, I would look at a 163X (X is the wide version of the board) for the Ripsaw and the 164X for the PT2. Both boards are catch free and very easy to get on with.

@thevoiceoftruth55 My original size is 43EU. Seems it like from 9 no 10 US. But my current boots is 32 Binary 11 US. I hope they have a reduced footprint or something like this
@chriswhite6052
@chriswhite6052 6 жыл бұрын
@Christopher Matthews Thanks for you answer! It was very informative. I'm very appriciated. As I've respond above my current boots (32 Binary) have an 11 size but seems that they have a reduced footprint because my original size is 9-10 US. My issue becomes worse due to my local stores have a very limited options. For the Ripsaw we have 157X. Is it viable? Boards longer then 158 very uncomfortable to me (due to my height) PS. I know that I have a lot of extra weight but currently I'm working on this. My expectation is at least 190 in the end of the season
@computerman01
@computerman01 6 жыл бұрын
Chris White I'm looking at this board, im 6'0 and 195lbs and wearing a US 12 boot. I'm going to be looking for something in the 160 length and probably a wide board so I don't get toe drag. You CAN use a shorter board if you are tall and heavy, it is just going to seriously affect your float in powder. If you primarily ride in the park you could probably get away with it but if I were you I'd go with a bit longer - 160 or more. Weight is more important consideration when choosing how long a board to go with. Hope this helps!
