They want you to think they are lazy, but we used to have 5 now have 2; they are the most stubborn dogs you will ever meet! Stubborn & hard headed; but very sly as well. Love your video. Weenie dogs rock! :D

I know that feeling. my dachshund Genny died recently at 15 years old (pretty old for a dachshund) she was always sitting up with feet off the ground when she wanted something. no one taught her that. she also had no issues with hip or back (except for her last year, she couldnt use back legs cause she ended up with a tumor pushing against her spine from cancer) other then that, fast, healthy, way to freaking cleaver and for some reason, love to climb our chain link fence.

We have a mini dachshund, and he has learned to sit, wait, etc! I think repetition and consistency helps a lot, but it also sometimes depends on the dogs and how their brains work! I've had a dachshund that couldn't be taught anything, for what reasons I don't know! But they're all just adorable!! They are definetely a part of me!😊

If you take your dachshund for a walk on a leash making sure he does not walk ahead or equal with you. Pull the leash up reasonably tight and hold the leash up and toward you back. Never allow the dog to enter or exit doorways ahead of you. You are the alpha and if he see you going first and ahead of you, he will follow. Giving the commands "leave it", or "with me" of he starts to be distracted will remind him he's with you and under your control. I couldn't get my dog to follow commands until I did this simple behavior on my part, being a leader. Now he comes on command, gives me his paw as requested, tells when he wants out to pee and actually waits for me whenever I go down stairs or walk with my cane. Its also interesting when he wants to go out he will look at me, then the door, with just his eyes.

I guess I'm lucky. My doxie one day decided that I was going to be her new owner even though she was my neighbors dog. She had to work hard for that goal. She does not always obey me because that's how doxies are BUT when she don't she acts like she's done a shameful thing. I did not want another dog but she is the best durned dog I have ever owned. I never knew these little dogs had such a capacity for love.

I totally concur....the easiest way to break your Doxie's back is by having it "SIT" and do tricks...and, please, never allow it to jump down from a bed or couch - even that little height is enough to injure permanently the little sweetie.

I love my doxie. Her name is Brunhilda. We call her Hildy and the best i could make her do is go potty outside once in a while. She still has "accidents" though and I'm well aware that they're not accidental. she's so cute and I don't think I could live without her.

@thundercloud478 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to hear that. Sometimes things just don't work out. I used to dislike dachshunds and said I'd never own one. My neighbor brought one home and it hated me as only a dachshund can. She'd decided I was an enemy and enemies are to be destroyed. I now own that dog believe it or not. All I wanted to do was get her to stop barking at me. It took over a month of extreme patience. 6 months later her owners divorced and she all at once decided I was going to be her new owner. That's just what happened too. She's the best dog I have ever owned. Our adoption worked out because she desperately wanted me to take her in. She even gave up her hatred of cats to come live with us.The man who once owned her eventually moved back to our little town. She goes to visit him occasionally. Many of the books written about how to train a dachshund are inaccurate. In spite of that there are a lot of places on the web now that have good info. I hope that things eventually work out for you and your dog. As you may have guessed by now I am a dachshund lover.

We With "sit" for instance, we taught ours using puppy treats, and what I would do is say sit as i put the treat near his mouth and push back until he sat. Now, 2 weeks later, he sits on command without a treat, before we put the leash on to go out, and when we come in, and just in general he'll sit. You have to learn how to go with the dachshunds "i'll figure it out on my own" attitude. He's even learning sit pretty at the moment, and will be 9 weeks old tomorrow.

Know how to train your Doxie. I had 3 and they all would follow my finger when I wanted them to get off the sofa and go outside. I'd point at them and then sweep my hand and the would come right over to me. Sit and then I'd put on their leashes then walk time.

we have a pair like that. it takes a delicate combination of treats (for good stuff), one word warnings (for bad stuff), and lots of swats with either a fly swatter or flip flop. we use "no face" for jumping on our face, "down" for getting off the couch, "potty" for going outside, etc. at first they did what your does...they hunker down, and stay put. the flip flop will fix that, but you HAVE to catch em in the act. good luck!

Everyone seems to be saying how stubborn dachshunds are. I didn't know, I started training my dachshund when she was 5 years old. She can sit, stand, lie down, give left or right paw, open and close the gate and she won't touch any food unless she has permission. Am I doing something right or is my Doxie just special?

I really like the name !! Just to give you an advice, take her for a long walk before teaching, then do it on the floor, not on a bed. you may want to start with a hand sign instead of a word, they seem to catch on quicker, then introduce the word(for them it's just a sound). hope it helps, it worked for our dachshunds :)
