Generally, most seniors have some medical conditions or otherwise that do not allow them to continue working. Another thing is that those self employed are in a better position to do so. Lastly which company can employ those above 70 or 80? I was unfortunately retrenched at 55 and was unable to get a similar job after sending more than 50 job applications with frustration and depression during that time and I felt miserable cos my savings have to be used prematurely. You are totally arrogant to conclude a person have no market value when you don’t even know the situation and the industry well enough. How can you be a good employer with such a mindset? It takes the Govt to rolled out all these schemes and even have to encourage and entice employers to employ older workers but definitely not during the time when I was retrenched! Perhaps you have learnt much from the Govt and it is indeed effective. All thanks to the Govt for doing right! Btw, your company can only employ a few and we are talking about the general workforce. Fyi, I do employ staff for my Dept too and I don’t discredit a person like you do.

Hmm..I'd say make the best of what life has to offer. My mother only had a secondary school education and she didn't do well for her o levels. Before she had children, she worked as a clerk. After she had my brother and I, because my father is a deadbeat, she had to become the breadwinner of the family so she went out to work. She found a job as a preschool teacher in a childcare centre. She worked hard and was sent for preschool education courses and gradually got promoted from teacher to senior teacher then to principal. To further her career, she switched from private childcare to PCF and from principal, she was promoted to administrator (in charge of a few PCF centres), then she went to PCF HQ and she's a head of a department now. She did her diploma, bachelors degree, masters degree in early childhood education while working, fully sponsored by PCF. My mother has been working in early childhood education for over 30 years now. She is around 70 years old now and is still working there because that's her passion. From looking at my mother's life, I feel like there are always opportunities to improve yourself, you just have to look for them and be open to them, be positive and not just doom yourself to a lesser fate than you deserve.

With all due respect ms Deborah Choi has a very average singing voice. Though she seems to think quite highly of herself. At an old folks home entertaining is exactly where I’d expect the find her level of talent 😂😂😂

There are liars going around claiming that the seniors in s'pore are forced to work because of poverty. Those liars are likely the ones that have been issued numerous pofmas for spreading falsehoods.😂😂

Is 50/50 there are mixed
@鲁焚化炉4 ай бұрын
50/50 is not true! My grandparents are living in a small old HDB estate. They have not known any neighbour who has to work for a living. Instead, many enjoying coffee with friends at food centres, or accompany by helpers shopping at HDB shop houses, or participating activities in the elderly centres etc.

@@Jon-bf2rsI dont believe the two comments. There is always one sided to everything, but however I agree on your comment it's 50-50

Of course, for those inclined to deceive themselves that not that many people are much better off than them would like to imagine that at least 50% are in the same shoes! Don’t forget, more than 50% of CPF members chose to defer their RA payouts to 70 yo!😝

Yes, I ate in a few restaurants in Singapore and the old ones were the ones clearing the tables; so humbling. It’s like they will only retire if they can’t get up anymore.🫡🫡🫡
