My husband and I live with one dog and one cat in our 64sqm bach (old beach house) and once he started working from home, it felt VERY small. We were fortunate to have the capacity to add a small studio to the garden, to serve as his home office, and also tweaked the kitchen design, so it feels a lot better now 🥰 But the living space in particular, and the two bedrooms are quite petite. We're getting good at developing storage solutions and have got rid of a lot of stuff! The apartment in this video does look really spacious, thanks to simple interior design and fairly minimalist owners, but it probably doesn't feel that big when you're there full time.

It's nice to see an NTS feature on a place where minimal intervention in the original layout has been made, yet a real transformation in look and feel is achieved. Also, it's clear that there is lots of room for furnishings to evolve as lives and tastes change. Bravo!

Absolutely loved the fact that you thought of and built everything yourself and, some features, with the skilled help of your father. And how precious and unexpected nowadays: minute 09:57, the remembrance of our older generations and of those before us: "the apartment used to be two units, each probably housing 4 to 5 people at the most. And it is worth remembering that what we might consider a small space today, would be spacious for the people who lived here 150 years ago." Grateful for your testimony.

Why is everyone hating the washing machine in the bedroom so much? It seems like the logical choice given the limitations of the existing layout. The shower/bathroom was tight. And having extra storage + a dishwasher is invaluable for the kitchen if you cook/use it regularly. The bedroom is simply a closed off sleeping space, and the plus is that you can close it off during the day when you're working, entertaining, or otherwise occupying the rest of the apartment. With the solid door and brick walls, it likely keeps the noise well insulated from the rest of the apartment as well.
@smallhouseinthemeadow61312 күн бұрын
I think it is SO clever to have the washer/dryer where you hang your clothes. How easy to take things out and hang them right up! It makes no sense to have a combo like this in a kitchen or a basement.

@alisonc61002 күн бұрын
It's unusual but I guess if it's not disturbing anyone's sleep it's not really a problem. I think some of the newer washing machines are very quiet, or of course perhaps they just don't run it while they're trying to sleep. She also mentioned having a drying rack in the bedroom curtain-closet so I'm going to guess another reason for putting it there was to avoid having clothes drying out in the common areas of the apartment. Totally makes sense, I wouldn't want guests to see all my undies drying 😂
@filipevintena164Күн бұрын
@alisonc6100 actually they have everyting there ( closet, hamper, washing machine and drying wrack ) because that way they dont have to carry laundry anywhere, also since the apartment is heated there is no humidity from the drying clothes. Once there done just foldem and put them in there place, its actually very time and space saving, also energy saving since we as human also spend energy whit our bodies 😉❤️

I like a lot of things in this apartment but the 'office' confuses me. What makes it an office? A thin strip of wood facing the wall you can perch your laptop on? I know I'd last about half an hour and then I'd go and work from the dining table where there's a lot more room.
@ske32303 күн бұрын
Love the fire place, that's very cozy. The entire apartment has cabin vibes, very lovely. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the bedroom storage and washing machine, feels unfinished, a simple wardrobe in there and the washing machine could have easily been fitted in the kitchen area. This size of an appartment for 2 people is more than plenty and you also have room for having people over. Appreciating the lack of TV, too many people are focusing on having space for a big screen.

I appreciate that they at least acknowledged that this is not truly “small” if you consider how people would have lived in it in the past, as well as how many people live “small” not out of choice but by necessity. I don't quite know how I feel about this one. I mean I kind of agree that with someone that said that it lacks "warm" and it's a bit strange to say because everything individually its no that bad. I think they just decorated the existing flat, opting for simple furniture. To me it looks like a big DIY project. The large bench is a good idea but for some reason it looks so odd and flat against that wall. Like it belongs in a some kids bedroom and not in a living room. On the other hand the place do feels spacious and bright which is nice. It could be a great place to receive clients and have an office/home.

In general, the furniture and the chosen colors are compatible. The washing machine should be placed somewhere else in the house or it should be separated as a small area with a hard material instead of curtains in the existing area, it should not have been in the bedroom.

My opinion Personally I would’ve done this space completely different. So much space to make the bathroom bigger, Kitchen and living utilizing the tall walls for extra storage, made the living have a big comfy couch with an entertainment area, the office room doesn’t have to be that big and make a Murphy style bed, and the main bedroom bigger with a floor to ceiling closet space along the big wall. Aesthetic is cute but so much wasted space for me.

You're welcome to kit out your own small space and invite the channel to do a story on you! 😊 All these benches as sofas have me envious of those without back issues needing all seating to have decent back support. LOL!!! "Never Too Small." My wife and I live in a 67 m² apartment in Jessheim, about 50 kilometers from Oslo. The apartment has two bedrooms, a large bathroom, a storage room, a hallway, a spacious living room, and a separate "U-shaped" kitchen tucked away from the main area. I’ve drawn up the renovation plans myself (I’m a civil engineer), and the renovation is set to begin in the spring. Once finished, the apartment will have three bedrooms. But not the tiny 2x2m "bedrooms" you often see-these will be proper, spacious rooms for sleeping and kids' activities. We won’t lose any space in the living room, and the kitchen will only be shortened by about 40 cm, keeping its "U-shape" and allowing for a 150 cm diameter circle to fit comfortably inside. The master bedroom will be reduced by 40 cm, making its dimensions 2.8 m x 3.8 m. The other two bedrooms will be 2.4 m x 3.2 m each. The current indoor storage room will be converted into a bathroom, reduced to 2 m x 1.6 m. Since all the walls here are made of wooden constructions, I’ll set up my workspace in the hallway. It will include a foldable desk that can be hidden inside the wall, along with the monitors. 60 m² is FAR from being a small space-at least from the perspective of someone who’s 190 cm tall and weighs 120 kg. Anything under 30, maybe 35 m², could be considered a small space. Don’t get me wrong, the apartment is beautiful, and they did a great job, but I think the video was posted on the wrong channel. "Never Too Small."
