Note on getting radiation from microwaves (try this out): When you're cooking something, slowly start to press in the button to open the door (if you have one). If you have a good microwave, it'll actually stop the microwave before the door opens; i.e. by the time the door springs open, there won't be radiation to leak out anymore.
