I can only agree!! I did a trip of 3010km on totally 50 hours. From Gothenburg in Sweden to Dijon France where we had to turn around because of things that happened in the family at home. Tesla's navigation handled everything perfectly and the only thing that actually stopped it was when I couldn't hold back and had to try the top speed ;) It was only a charging station that did not have a toilet, coffee, etc. As a truck driver and having driven many long distances, I have to say that driving for about 3 hours and then taking a break to charge is absolutely perfect...and with ESD it's like a dream! Wish I had it in the truck too :)

I am with you. Wife and I took a short out of state road trip. Left the house charged to 95%, stopped after an hour and a half. Before we even got our snacks, got a notification that we were charged up. Tesla seat are so comfortable and we let FSD do most all of the driving. Got to see my first Cybertruck in the wild at the charging station. We will never buy another gas car.

New Tesla owner here...two road trips so far in a model X, and charging wasn't much different than driving my ICE car. So far here in the U.S. I haven't seen any non Tesla's being charged. Was redirected to a less busy station while driving, which was great. Charging at home costs 1/4 of the Supercharger price but it's still half the price of gasoline.

Me and the Mrs are the same. Enjoy the trip, eat out, coffees. We don't make 3 hours before we want a walk about etc. I used to drive 5 hours in one hour in my old Mondeo and wouldn't drink because I didn't want to stop. Not until I got the EV did I realise it was probably a bit dangerous but having the break or staying hydrated... Silly me. Will never go back to petrol. Love the Model 3.

Lars: My wife and I both in our 70's made a road trip from Anaheim California to Port Angeles Washington 1,250 miles each way in our Tesla Model Y LR with FSD and it was great. The car never took 20 minutes at any stop and that was less time than we needed for our coffee, snacks, and bathroom breaks. I will never take another road trip in an ICE car again. I can't wait for the Tesla to drive me on these long trips so that I can take a nap or read while traveling.

I don’t care as much about lvl 4/5, i just want to be able the take my hands off the wheel, play a game, take a nap, watch a movie… at that point it’s more like flying on an airplane, just enjoy the ride and interventions on the highway are already quite low esp. outside of metro areas….

Easy peasy and have been all in on EVs for more than 12 years now starting with 2012 MS. ICE vehicles are dead to me and never going back, charging our two Tesla's off our solar powered roof, costing us nothing to charge at home.

We drove our model Y to California last year from Denver. It was a wonderful road trip. One thing we noticed was that we were less fatigued when we arrived at our final destination. We attribute it to the fact that we weren’t being subject to various vibrations from the drivetrain of the ice car. The Tesla is much smoother and doesn’t have added vibrations. Those various frequencies affect people differently, but we noticed we were more relaxed and less fatigued.

Totally agree. The other difference is the fact you don't get the vibration and noise back through the car like you do in a ice engine, this also adds to the fatigue. Only noticed this once I started doing longer trips and was amazed how I was feeling at the end of the trip.

Met you in Minnesota last month. Thank you for hopping across the pond to tell me to “Be Nice!”. I drove up the 750 miles from Alabama Friday, attended the meet up Saturday, then drove back to Alabama after the light show, getting home before 1pm Sunday. I did run out of steam around 5 am, so I just took a nap for about an hour in the car at a rest stop until I was ready to go. Tesla with Autopilot or FSD and camp mode makes an otherwise impossible trip for me actually easy.

7:50 ish: I find doing a 150 to 250 mile hop between chargers on a road trip usually works out about right for my bladder.😅More importantly, I like to stop and walk around a little and maybe take a nap every once in a while. The former to avoid a repeat of the deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism I had back in 2022, and the latter just to stay sharp when back on the road.

I'm here in the U and I've used your line of rezoning with people who don't think EVs are road trip worthy. I have a 2022 Model Y and my wife and I travel all the time in ours. We're both in our early/mid 50's and like to travel and when we road trip I dn't even take the IC car anymore now that I have the Tesla. We charge up to 100% before leaving home then we go. I plug in the destination and then I remove all the 150kw stations and add all 250kw stations then we're gone. We take breaks and take in the scenery and places to eat and just enjoy ourselves. I love that argument of gas cars filling up in 5 minutes. Like you said, driving can be hard on the body, especially with kids or the older you get so no one is driving for hours then filling up for 5 minutes and back on the road. That's hard on the body and dangerous. Plus, every time I'm at a rest stop or charging stop with a gas station there are people in their gas cars spending 15 to 30 minutes at a stop...with their family, getting food, walking the dog etc.

I agree with you 100%. But there are many people who only care about getting from point A to point B In the fastest amount of time. They bring snacks, drinks, and sandwiches with them in the vehicle. Petulant child-like. “Elon should shut his bloody mouth” “That thing will catch fire” “Doesn’t he support Trump?” “Car parks can’t stand the weight” “It depreciates fast” “Takes hours to charge” “You’ll need new batteries in two years and they cost £30K” “You can’t cross Europe in it” Utter imbeciles…

So right about the breaks, it’s so much nicer, more relaxing for the human driver/passengers. I wouldn’t do it in an ICE, too expensive, trips to stinky fuel stations, Tesla basic cruise/auto steer makes journeys so much easier. You can often just monitor & relax, it’s safer to as you can concentrate on ‘others’ around you. Tired, grumpy, aggressive ICE drivers.

It’s funny how so many ICE car owners/drivers will go on and on about how much time it takes to change. I’ve had a Nissan Leaf since 2016 and got a Model Y in 2022. Both replaced ICE cars. Each year I spent 14-15 hours fueling each ICE Car, so a total of about 30 hours/year. The Leaf is a daily commuter (can’t realistically be road tripped. 99.5%+ of the time it is charged at work or home. The Model Y is mostly used as a commuter, all weekend driving, some Ubering, and usually 2-3 road trips a year. Most of our roadtrip charging adds about 1 hour round trip. So 3-4 hours spent a year on charging. (2) ICE cars ~30 hours spent a year fueling (2) EV cars: ~4 hours spent a year charging Which is better
@SteveMeidaKing3 ай бұрын
It's also funny how so many EV car owners/drivers will go on and on about how convenient charging is, assuming conditions are the same for everyone else. I have an ICE. My wife got an EV a year ago. For tooling around locally the EV is great. But, we live in the middle of friggin' nowhere. It's 30 miles round-trip to the grocery store and back. 60 miles round-trip to the nearest Wal-Mart type of store. 300 miles round-trip to the nearest "big city" that has a population more than 10,000 people. She can't get there and back on a single charge, and until recently there weren't any non-Tesla DC fast chargers there. There is one there now, and it sometimes even works. I've gotten calls from her saying she's going to be late, the fast charger is out of order so she has to sit around a couple hours at the 15 kW level 2 charger until she has enough to make it home. So, no shade on EVs. They're great if you can get by with a home charger or have conveniently located and well-maintained fast chargers. But that's not everyone yet. I certainly wouldn't recommend an EV to anyone in this area who doesn't also have a ICE for longer trips.
@Clamdine3 ай бұрын
@@SteveMeidaKing I hear you. I too agree, EVs aren’t for everyone in all places. Also not all EVs are equal when it comes to range and charging options. When it came time to buy a second EV a Tesla was the only one that made sense and ticked all the boxes for all of my needs. I know not everyone is fortunate enough to have a Tesla as an option for them right now. As time goes on a Tesla will be an option for more and more people.

I have a Model Y and have done a number of road trips. I charge to 90% at home, then navigate to a suitable Supercharger. I do that so the battery is conditioned by the time of arrival at the charger. 13-15 mins and it is up to 80% and back on the road. I just keep doing the same as you. It works!. Get out of the car and walk about for 10 mins, get back in and go. Super easy. Go back to Ice Car? Never ( I am not a flat Earther). Love my Tesla. Spent $0 on gas oil and service. There are many Superchargers along I5 and never had to wait yet.

In our case, we usually drive from Brussels to Travemünde to catch the 22:00 ferry from there to Trelleborg in Sweden, and we really do not want to miss it ;-) So, that 666 km drive is for us not about the scenary, it's about getting to the ferry in time. Will be leaving with 100% and charge three times, the last one allowing me to enter the ferry with 50% SOC as there are not many SuperCharger options in the south of Sweden. With that 50% I can get to our SE house comfortably.

As long as there is a V3/V4 Supercharger available, I don't wait for the car to charge. Bathroom break and snacks takes longer. If you come in empty to a V2 charger at capacity and no facilities.... You just charge enough to get to the next location. In Western Europe, you probably don't even need to charge to get somewhere better. Rural Balkans? You take what you can get. 😁

There are 2 types of road trips. One is a destination trip. This an A to B type trip where your plans are around the destination and you want to get there the most efficient way possible. Stops less than 200 miles isn’t going to cut it. Then there is the sight seeing kind of trip where there are many planned stops. The trip is the goal. These aren’t as common these days. People don’t have the time for elongated trips and there is an almost uncountable number of commercialized destination options.
