Van Williams is the most under-rated drummer of all time. The guy is amazing, and just makes everything fit so perfectly.
@suedehead23 Жыл бұрын
I completely agree! It drives me mad as people say he's not technical all the time in response to these comments. He absolutely is, but his feel and grooves are stunning - just listen to the breakdown section in The Politics of Ecstasy, or how groovy his ride work is in Next in Line's "I'm next in line" sections.

Van is a monster. One of the best, most creative, most versatile drummers in metal. As for underrated, he's only the 2nd most underrated, as the top spot should go to Steve Jacobs, who played with Forbidden on their Distortion and Green albums. That man is just insane.

if not the best. Nevermore was so underrated as a band, it is sad. The musicianship, songwriting and just general artistic merit of everything they did was legendary and yet hardly enough people gave a fuck about them at their peak.

I remember seeing Nevermore in 1999 at a small club in San Francisco - they were touring with Iced Earth (the band I really went to see) and I was impressed with them - at that time they were part of Century Media, the company from which many Nuclear Blast Records companies came from. I lost track of them for over 10 years, but still, I'm sad to hear that Warrel Dane passed away.

The entire 'Godless Endeavor' and 'Dead Heart in a Dead World' are pretty much flawless albums. You can't go wrong with any Nevermore really, Dane on vocals (a true poet) and Loomis on guitar is one of the greatest duos in metal history. Insane live too. Staggering loss. You'd love 'The Heart Collector' by them.
@corpusc7 жыл бұрын
even Politics of Ecstacy? i didn't like 1 single song on that album.
@Devypocalypse7 жыл бұрын
I'd agree it's probably my least favourite of theirs, but there's a few songs that are great, that showcase Danes lyrics and the potential in the playing of Loomis. When that landed in 1996 it was so different to any other 'mainstream' metal that it stood out. I can still jam 'Seven Tongues of God', 'This Sacrament', 'Next in Line', the title track and 'The Learning' and have a blast. Granted, some of the supporting songs aren't up to those ones but it's still got a lot going for it. Appreciate your view though, the last four albums by them especially are pretty flawless in my eyes and far superior to PoE.
@dethofariel7 жыл бұрын
Sean Taylor I kind of consider Obsidian Conspiracy as a flawless, play-thru-able album. 😬 And Dead Heart in a Dead World is my personal favorite. My heart feels actual pain that we’ll never have Jeff and Warrel together again.
@Devypocalypse7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I was planning on seeing them on that tour with Symphony X (which as a guitar player would have blown my face off), but they split up during it. I was so gutted, but always felt it's ok they will one day get back together, time heals right? Finding out Warrel had passed absolutely crushed that hope.
@dethofariel7 жыл бұрын
Sean Taylor I saw them in 2010 before they broke up, but it was a weird situation where I had a super-recent head injury and amnesia of that night. (I declined going to the hospital because I had to see Nevermore!) So I don’t remember them playing on stage at all which is really fucking unfortunate. I do have my pictures with the band members after the show, and autographs. But the thing I am missing is the memory of them playing live together, in front of me. So I really was holding out hope for a reunion, because Nevermore has meant so much to me over the years, and I felt like Jeff and Warrel belonged together. 👨❤️👨 So it is sad... and selfish... for me to wish for what *could have* been.

Warrel Dane has formed the band Sanctuary in the middle 80's. They released two incredible albums. In these albums you can hear how incredilbe was the range of his voice. When they split up, Warrel with Jim Sheppard (the bass player of Sanctuary) and the master guitarist and composer Jeff Loomis, formed Nevermore. Nevermore was in my opinion the best heavy metal band from the day they were born 'til today. Warrel was an authentic artist (genius lyricist, magnificent performer and he had a blessed voice).You should check out the song ''Sentient 6'' (live video) to realize what the word true artist means.

Hey pink, nice reaction. Really sad news about Warrell, but he has a great legacy left behind. If you liked this and you like these kind of vocals and more then you should really check out the band Witherfall, they are very much like Nevermore but with their own twist on it. The lead singer is out of this world and the guitar playing is fantastic as is the drumming. Which is the sad apart about this request too, because the drummer was diagnosed with cancer whilst finishing up the recording and the band realised it shortly after his death. Such a loss because the guy was amazing .RIP Warrell Dane and RIP Adam Sangan.

Jeff Loomis is easily a top 5 metal guitarist of all time. Such an underrated band! R.I.P. Warrel Dane!

Great song, great reaction. This band has given me goosebumps on many songs. Warrel Dane was one of my favorite vocalists and will be dearly missed. You should check out Sanctuary, his previous band, and you will be shocked at the highs he can reach on the song Battle Angels. Plus his solo work was awesome. If you listen to the song Brother you will hear it is a very emotional and heartfelt song, but if you watch the video, you will see his emotion. RIP Warrel Dane.

Let's take a minute to appreciate that Loomis sweep picked for a minute straight. People who don't understand the technique often over look the intensity of these solos. Sweeping for a minute straight is insane! Especially on this level. I can sweep for .3 seconds

I highly recommend the song Brother by Warrel Dane. This was on a solo project he did and says it's one of the most personal songs he's ever written.

Warrel Dane was awesome with Nevermore... Check him out in the 80's with his old band Sanctuary..Battle Angels...He does the Judas Priest style vocals.. He definitely could hit the Rob Halford ranges.

Warrel was classically trained...jeff Loomis (lead guitarist) did the difficult solos and wrote most of the music

I am both excited and sad. I listened to Sanctuary back in the day, however was not aware of this band (nor of Dane's passing). Thank you for doing this reaction, now I have another band to look into. It's probably been mentioned before, but (as you guessed) Dane was classically trained and actually sang opera before starting in SANCTUARY. If you like this you HAVE to check out SANCTUARY, his singing will stir up your emotions. I would recommend "Veil of Disguise" or their cover of "White Rabbit". Similar acts that i guarantee you'll love are METAL CHURCH and DEATH ANGEL. Both bands have seamless time changes/progressions and the singers both demonstrate remarkable range.
