Neverwinter Nights 2 Mask of the Betrayer One of the Best Stories in an RPG!

Mask of the Betrayer is definitely one of my favorite CRPG's, right up there with Planescapw Torment. I did notice you give Chris Avellone a lot of credit for this game though. Don't get me wrong, he's a fantastic writer but based on several interviews he was only in charge of writing for Kaelyn the Dove. It was George Ziets that wrote the main story for MotB and was the main creative force behind its themes and direction.

Sorry for my English... damn, I thought he wrote something more than just the dove story... it's a pity. And he probably had a very small part in the work on New Vegas? I'm just guessing... Probably its greatest influence, apart from Planescape, can only be seen in Kotor 2, right?

For Fallout: New Vegas, Chris Avellone was a major part of the writing in regards to the main story and factions, from what I've been told. The DLC are where he contributed the most though with 3 out of the 4 DLC being mostly written by him: Dead Money, Old World Blues, and Lonesome Road. KOTOR 2 is definitely a game that he had similar creative control alongside Planescape Torment. One of the biggest indicators is that Kreia is strongly influenced by Ravel, both having very similar philosophical bents against the very laws of the universe both inhabits. I do think Chris is a great writer, possibly the best in the gaming industry, I just like to point out when other writers are responsible for great works as well, like with George Ziets being responsible for the amazing writing in Mask of the Betrayer.

@@Ark1437 Yes, exactly when, after completing Planescape, I started Kotor 2 and talked to Kreia, I had in the back of my mind that I knew this woman from somewhere. Well... I wanted to say hello Ravela, long time no see :) Talking to Kreia felt like attending many hours of philosophical lectures. Chris Avellone is a brilliant writer. The place to satisfy intellectual desires is the best place I've ever seen in video games. I have been following Numenera's work from the very beginning and I know that George Ziets co-created this game. In my opinion, however, Numenera is a failure, the plot is too shallow and not personal enough, devoid of philosophical reflections, and the entire artistic vision has failed. Do you know if George Ziets wrote anything as good as The Mask of the Betrayer? Or is he resting on his laurels?

I remember that one of the things that bugged me in Storm of Zehir is that you can run into One-of-Many as a random encounter. That meant they'd set that campaign in a world where Okku had been devoured.

Buggy mess. Watch your party jog-in-place into walls, and your thief walk directly into a trap that he just detected a few seconds earlier. You don't fight enemies, you fight the bugs.

Just as an FYI, the reason they're called Telthor and not just Spirits is that Telthor are a specific type of spirit that serve as Guardians.

Neverwinter Nights 2 Mask of the Betrayer, KING STORYLINE OF ALL GAME, with Planescape:Torment and Xenogears. If you have never played XENOGEARS, I can honestly tell you that this game, despite its limited budget and limited content, has an even more ambitious plot than Planescape: Torment. Not better, but more ambitious. It is one of a kind, created a year before Planescape, and is the most plot-complicated game ever created on the planet. You have to take my word for it :) At first, it may seem childish and trivial, but what happens next exceeds all cognitive limits. And it is in the pantheon of the greatest role-playing games ever created on this planet. Read people's opinions about this game without spoilers. If you ever get through it, you will thank me :) Regards

I still think 3rd edition (in particular Pathfinder) is the best of the editions (with BECMI a close second).

I do like the game rules better in 3rd (less complex than 2nd edition) but I still have a ton of nostalgia for the 80s/90s 2nd edition years where they churned out a bunch of Campaign Settings

Curious how long are these expansions in terms of playtime (this and NWN1 underdark)?

For Hordes I probably got around 20 hours my first playthrough. For MOTB I think it was around 15 hours or so. But I know exactly where to go now so I zip through much faster

@@michaelsnow1 the story intrigued me enough that I stopped watching your playthrough and went and installed it and started playing. Really gives me planescape vibes and Torment is my favorite video game (#1) and Planescape my favourite setting.
