Depending on the price this will be huge in the Nordics (might be a bit biased as a former owner of Saabs).
@airheart1 Жыл бұрын
And what do you suppose the price will be on a 160kwh battery, 4 motor 'sport sedan'' from a 'new' car manufacturer who has been dead for the past decade? You think they have cheap labor? Cheap supply lines? Cheap battery supplies with their huge scale of production? In WHAT world does this thing come out with a price tag of under 100,000 Euro? And how many Swedes and the like up do you suppose are going to be lining up for an inefficient, heavy, over priced, unproven and Chinese backed product? And how do you imagine this tiny market of buyers.. I would guess less then a few thousand.. brings Saab back from the grave for more than.. maybe a year?
@toms5996 Жыл бұрын
@@airheart1 I have to start from the beginning. It seems the new owner is Norwegian. IF we(as in us Nordics) get the proper backing for this car this will go quite smoothly. Remember that Saab was always and will be produced in Sweden(Trollhätten) AND in Finland (Turku/Åbo) both of which have incredibly skilled labour with good salaries. The Finnish plant at the moment makes Mercedez Benz but has capacity for more. Saab (or Volvo) production has never had a problem with producing these cars in hyper-expensive countries. We are efficient. Us Finns and Swedes manufacture still e.g. most of biggest cruise liners in the world(I think all the US ones are Made in Finland), biggest engines in the world, trains, train systems, busses, trucks, aeroplanes (huge parts of Airbus) etc. etc. It's not about cost but about quality. Both Volvo and Saab car brands are now Chinese backed but 100% Nordic. If the projected prices is under €50000 which I've seen in the Finnish press the car will be a smash hit. France and Germany have opened battery Gigafactories that would serve the project well. This is all still pure speculation. But Finland and Sweden have streamlined our production decades ago and continue to do so. (Check out the new Airbus space station which will partially replace the ISS 2026/2027 - Parts are already made here in Finland.)

@@toms5996 I they get THIS vehicle.. with a 160 kwh battery and 4 motors in it, on sale at 50000 Euro.. I'll agree it will be a huge hit. I just don't see any way a vehicle with these specifications can be done at a reasonable price. Even a full Chinese company like BYD couldn't sell a EV of these specs for 50000 and make a profit. It seems Protean solved all in-wheel motor challenges for the EV (durability, integrated break), a mile stone in EV engineering. Protean filed numerous patents on their in-wheel motor technology. With an active 'air' suspension system, the extra unsprung weight challenge was solved by NEVS, the Emily GT rides comfortably. The advantages are big: torque vectoring, 20% extra space for passengers and luggage, much simpler car design. Elaphe's in-wheel motor for the Aptera requires active cooling, but I haven't seen any active cooling for the Protean in-wheel motors (no active cooling required is better). And the Emily GT looks distinctive, not just another 'round' EV, it has the SAAB look. I hope it will be affordable, not another super expensive car. Niron's new iron-based super magnets could be an option for Protean in the future. I will wait for the next gen solid state batteries anyway, the EV weight has to come down.
