So, the original prop from 9th Doctor to the point of Smith and Jones from season 3, had black and red wiring in the clear shaft. After that it was yellow until destroyed in 11th hour of Matt Smith’s first episode.

You said the original Character Options sonic had only one sound. Not sure if mine is a later release or what (I think I've had it since around 2005 when I was a child), but mine (UV one with both pen nubs and a little notebook) has two sounds. They're basically both the same sound effect, but one has a sort of chirping sound behind it. You can only really hear it if you let it play out for a bit. UPDATE: Apparently, I bought mine on Amazon in 2012 when I was in college. I expect I had one before then that got lost, because I'm sure I had one as a child.

Now we’ll have to wait and see if Surreal Entertainment reissues any more Sonic Screwdrivers in the future! While prices on The Thirteenth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver have ranged from reasonable to expensive, it would be interesting to see a reissue somewhere down the line! Maybe one day (one day), we will get a version that will combine both the features of the Seven20 and CO versions! Wishful thinking, I know, but would keep things interesting, especially for those on the cosplay circuit!

Given how both versions are hard to come by, we could have a hybrid consisting of the secret color settings from the Collector’s Edition and the non-electroplated design of the retail version (or just give us a straight up reissue of the Collector’s Edition). Your 50th 10th doctor sonic is from the collection yet that included a re-release of 3rd,4th,5th,8th and 11th sonic screwdrivers. The original 50th 10th sonic screwdriver release had the same removable nib bit with the yellow wire. The one you've got lied on the box about the yellow wire. Kinda like how character used to make the 10th and 9th sonics look like they had a button on the slider before they updated the slider mold

Out of the sonic screwdrivers you've reviewed, this is the most disappointing release. Totally agree with your assessment of the slider. The Day of the Doctor does reflect more closer to the prop, with it even resembling the prop's button on the slider. They could've made the wiring yellow to reflect the prop more closely (which they had with the Day of the Doctor release). The sound chip was also released with the screwdriver waves that CO used to do with the classic sonics. Thank you for the review.

Glad you enjoyed the review but yeah, completely disappointing sonic and feels like a missed opportunity to add quite a basic function. The 14th sonic has the button slider function built in so maybe character options will get it right….one day

The cream coloured sonic is mostly unfamiliar to me as although it has the same shell colour as the 50th, it uses the revised mold which was not introduced until around 2017 After a bit of research it is from the multi pack which included 3's, 4's, 4/5's, 7/8's, an updated 50th sonic but with the black spiral and an 11's sonic with its original mold

The removable numb is so annoying, Mine fell out one day breaking off one of the lugs in the process. Still got it but not sure where it went. It does look weird without the nub That sonic is from the 50th anniversary however it looks as if someone has swapped the emitter section. It released with the gold spiral yet its black. I wanted to pick it up and transplant the gold spiral into a more suited handel. Also wanna do a button on slider mod but with how rare theses have become to find i dont dare experiment anymore

It made the same sound but the pitch would bend depending on what the doctor was doing - like it would pitch higher if he was using it then extended it while in use

I'm posting this here again: why not make these from metal? Die-Cast. And use the correct sounds. And make 'em louder. They don't need to be manufactured and cost 1000£. These could be sturdy and still under 60£. And, while we're at it: have the batteries be 2 AAA and just let the back be unscrewable. Rubbertoes can still make the expensive ones for all I care. But how about a not-so-expensive toy that can take some use?

You’re not wrong. The wand company made metal versions which, at the time, were very affordable. Like you say nothing like the quality of materials or build from rubbertoe or even CT but they were great and that’s why fans chase them now. Problem is I don’t think there’s a company prepared to risk mass production (which would bring the overheads and the price for consumer down) due to current mixed reception with the Whoniverse

If you wanna be really specific, this version is technically 10’s since 9’s didn’t have a slider on it and just had a single button. S2 onwards introduced a sonic with the slider

Are there any decent 3rd party ones that people know. I want 10th and 11th doctor screwdriver but can’t justify spending £100 getting them from Amazon, especially with the minor issues you’ve shown. There’s tonnes on ebay but it’s whether they’re a decent fake or not.

Roughly where the slider is. The slider is a cap that you can take off and it reveals a screw. Take the screw out and the whole emitter section comes out of the handle of the sonic and reveals the batter compartment

Wow! It’s, GARBAGE! I mean honestly, if they’re gonna re-release the Sonic Screwdrivers character options made, then why not re-release the version with the fake button on the slider, and non-removable end piece? The version that is the hardest to find, and by far the most polished version of the 10th Doctor sonic screwdriver Character has made. Especially when you consider that the new packaging does nothing to prevent the cap covered the screw for the slider from falling off, making it so you can lose it before you even get it.

TLDR cause I rambled far too much lol, I'm not super annoyed like it comes across, I'm just sleep deprived. My thoughts summed up, so far surreals only good sonic so far is the 12th cause very little changed and they didn't make as many mistakes as the 10th and 11th ones It's weird how the surreal entertainment 10th and 11th sonics look like knock off's of the character options sonics, but the 12th is almost the same (just minus the nicer blue paint). Like holy hell 😅 the 10th has almost no crackle design, is super glossy where it should be more matte, has the old pointless removable design of the end piece mixed with an uglier, more blocky black end piece and has the most ill fitting sound chip used in a 10th sonic. And the 11th is a bad mismatch of the touch activated release and the original 2011 red button release, also with softer and less apparent detailing and that god awful battery compartment. Wild how those two faired so badly and the 12th is only really missing the better blue paint from the CO version.
