Great looking tank! I keep a Tanganyika tank as well. Do you do anything to your KH, GH and PH for this tank? or do you just let them acclimate to your tap water parameters? I keep mine GH and KH at around 200 PPM and PH around 8.5 - 9

Loving the tank. It was funny I was watching the video and just before you mentioned the Leptosama, I was sitting here going that tank needs some Leptosama in it LOL!! Are you able to get your hands on a Tanganyika Banded Eel. That would be an intersting oddball for the tank and the 125 could even handle the bigger species.

@PrimeTimeAquatics
@PrimeTimeAquatics 4 жыл бұрын
Great question. I actually don't need one because my water is naturally at 8.2 pH and had a decently high KH. I also have all the flagstone in there, which doesn't really adjust our water parameters too much, but certainly might for people who have soft water and a low pH. I have aragonite in one of my tanks and really like it!

from the species profile videos, you always mentioned that tanganyika cichlids are more sensitive to water temperature change. if i have a 75g tank at 78f, and i do a weekly 25% water change from the tap, if the top water temperature is around 68-70f, would that be too much of a temp fluctuation? i have a water softener install in the house, and the only tap i can use is in the backyard with no temperature control.
@PrimeTimeAquatics

Ya, that could stress them out. I know a lot of people who use a softener bypass for filling tanks.

I always worry about the excessive weight caused by all the hardscape plus the substrate and other additions in the tanks. Mostly the stone hardscape though. Personally, I would prefer to use more stones but Murphy's Law is my constant companion and I genuinely worry about a major rupture of the tank bottom. Five gallons of water doesn't seem like much until you pour it all over your floor. Then suddenly those small nano tanks seem like a _big_ liability. Now imagine that scenario magnified ten-fold. Ten, twenty, forty, fifty-five, one hundred twenty five and so on. As the tank sizes get larger, so too does the magnitude of this potential catastrophe. Does it happen very often? _No._ But then again, it has/does happen to somebody at some point and that person is usually me. Nonetheless, this doesn't deter me from using hardscape in my tanks. I just use it sparingly and meticulously place them evenly around the tanks for optimal weight distribution. Always look forward to some new content and conversation here on Prime Time Aquatics. Keep up the good work my friends. EDITED for double spacing and missing punctuation.

I hear you! I think the total weight of the rocks was probably less than 200lbs? We also made it a point to space it out throughout the tank. It always makes me nervous when you see massive piles of large rocks in a tank. : -)
