I bought a 2019 Yamaha 6hp exactly like this one. I found it disappointingly rough running and noisy due to the one cylinder and lack of sufficient soundproofing. However, last year, with very low hours (LESS than 20) it would occasionally starve for fuel, then just as suddenly, run okay again. A few more months of operation (now about 100 hours use on a dinghy), it refuses to idle. It turned out to be the fuel pump - a $128 part. I know Yamaha's larger engines are really good, but I consider this 6hp model to be less than that; would never buy another.

You can buy a chinese outboard like Parsun or Hidea, they are almost identical and they are reliable. You save money on a chinese engine. And I'm not criticizes Yamaha, I just think I would buy a chinese outboard instead

@@THe9-3MAnIaC That is interesting--most of us have had bad experiences with Chinese manufacturing; I am specifically looking for a Yamaha because it is NOT made in China. But--maybe they are better made than I think. I think--they are junk based on other Chinese tools I have bought--that WERE junk.

@@jimquantic I understand you, but I have a little parsun 2.6, I know that it isn't the same as the 6 hp version but my parsun runs very good! I try to fin a main jet in the right size to it so it runs a bit better, but overall it's easy starting and have never had a big problem. The only downside I've experienced is that the main jet has been clogged upp with dirt, but with a clean it runs like a champ again

@@jimquantic You can try a chinese engine, you will be more than surprised. My parsun is from 2013/2014 and it doesn't feel like 7 years old

@@jimquantic Or try a chinese Hangkai 6.5 hp 4 stroke outboard, that is based on a Tohatsu 6 hp so parts are the same as tohatsu

Da, metalni sartidov camac, duzine 6 metara. Brzina oko 12, 13km/h. Nisam siguran za tezinu ali nije lak, ako saznam javicu ... dosta dobro gura Yamaha

Pa nisam siguran da ti bas tacno kazem, osim da je potrosnja zadovoljavajuca, u odnosu na motor od 4ks koji sam imao... zadovoljan sam potrosnjom... za ceo dan zavisi koliko menjam pozicije poyrosi od prilike od pola litra do 2 litra,... znaci sve zavisi...

It's a 4 stroke single cylinder. That's how they sound.
