NEW 2020 Audi S4 First Drive Review - Its DIESEL But Wait Theres More!

Here is the New 2020 Audi S4 Avant review. The new Audi S4 avant runs a 3.0 diesel engine with mild hybrid tech. This is a first for audi bringing this technology into the S4/A4 range but also taking the bold step to make the Audi S4 diesel for 2019 is a brave move. Joe Achilles and I review and have a first drive of audis new car for 2019 and get to see what 350bhp and 550ft lb of torque feels like. The Audi S4 Avant has an acceleration of 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds and the saloon model delivers 4.8. the big question is now that the new 2019 audi s4 is diesel, what does it sound like and can it match the performance of the old Audi S4?

Great review of a great car. Not sure why they put on fake exhausts but when you’re driving the car they aren’t visible 😀. BTW petrol heads should remember diesel won Le Mans 24hr 6 years in a row before the hybrids took over.

Wow 2 of my fav vloggers 👍🏻 agree with the interior guys as the S4 & most Audi's do look very good Inside but high's & Low's for me, high in efficiency but low in an S4 needs to be breaking 4 seconds 0-60 I feel, that's 1 of the reasons why I would buy 1 & was that a tractor driving by or just the S4 engine when the bonnet was up lol 😉

These tick all the boxes for me. Looked at one locally recently in this exact colour with the red interior. Had the sound pack too! 30k odd for a decent used one. Practicality, performance, economy, loads of spec and fantastic quality. Blew me away!

Its a great package but I would want the black styling pack and that gorgeous bright powder blue colour, I think its called Riviera Blue. You can also adjust the cabin motor sound synth level in the menu. Also there is little doubt that this S4 would crush the current S4 petrol, in 30-50, 50-70 etc. It would be much quicker than the petrol with 700nm of torque available especially in the mid band.

No, especially the last statement of you might be wrong without context. The diesel S4 might be quicker in the higher gears, but S4 petrol will shift and be quicker. What you guys have to understand, that diesel works because it has its max torque at lower rpm but its rpm-band is also significantly lower (maybe 5 000 rpm). That is why its gears have significantly longer gear-ratios which reduce torque at the wheel compared to the S4 petrol. And this is, what counts for performance. Which torque/force you have at the wheels… that is why torque of the engine is only half of the truth at its best…

I got 40mpg in my petrol S4 for about 11 miles of a 5hr trip and ended up with 37mpg at the end of the trip. The petrol is rated for 30mpg hwy

@Stef good to see you take a few seconds to reply to comments [waits for reply!] - the difference for me with the S4 TDI is that its emissions is now low enough to get on my company car list. I've driven it for a weekend and I've ordered one - Avant Black Edition, Daytona Grey with carbon fibre dash. However, I think Audi have made a strategic error with the Vorsprung trim level - who's going to pay £10k more when they can select most of the options they really want on the base car? On the other hand, some of the Vorsprung spec e.g. the really useful (when there's 2 of you sharing the car) memory seat option isn't an option on the base car but not worth spending £10k just to get it. Then the European spec cars get 2 USBs in the back and I can't get that in the UK. So they have all of the parts in the factory but I can't spec the exact car I want - Audi should give the customer the full choice of options - an idea for your next video?

We only drive our rs4 once a month now at the most since we got our sq7 which is a diesel. We love it and we forget it is a diesel until we need to fill the car up which is again once every 2 or 3 weeks.

I'm yet to drive a diesel quickly that rewards like a petrol. My RA red lines at 8,500 rpm and I find stepping in to even a very fast diesel a terrible disappointment.

so guys currently with a A3 S-line sports/black edition 2 door diesel 2011 since 2014 now donw 65k and need to move on thx to ULEZ expansion, so probably looking to do a daily commute of 40 miles all round via the M1 motorway to North London . hopefully just 3x a week. anyway should i go for this or maybe a bmw 330D or go petrol? I'm not a hardcore fan of speed but I do lust a bit for an S4 - advantages I know a good Audi mecahanic who doesn't rip me off so thats a big plus, still though. what should I do ?

@@wakaflockaproject hi there I got an Audi S4 2018 with 41k mileages from audi , though its amazing , I wished i had scanned the car more b4 purchase as it had more scratches and some leather tearing in the back seat, other than that seems to be good, oil residue was found and I had that cleaned up so hoping it don't return a few weeks ago only after getting it in late jan, part of me thinks the franchise didn't do the 150 point check properly. so going to the place I purchased it and complaining, It is a sick car but def too expesive for a long commute. so may get a run around end of the summer.

I was so excited about this car until I heard about the 'DIESEL' word. WTF!! Diesel!!! Then I hear that one half of the tail pipes is nothing but fake Yes, fake tail pipes! WTF! Love the near RS6 styling though! Love the colour too, same Nano grey as my 2018 S3, which I will be keeping. Never bought a diesel in my life and won't be starting any time soon. I’m afraid I’m still struggling to understand Audi’s Philosophy with this car, I’m a current B9 S5 owner, with the petrol engine, we have a war against Diesel cars in the uk and here are Audi still trying to sell us more Diesel cars, Audi are saying 40 mpg but I’ve just got 37 out of my S5 driving back from Scotland with a mixture of A and B roads and motorway driving and petrol is cheaper than Diesel so no real saving there over the petrol engine! And whilst it might be hard to tell it’s a Diesel whilst driving, it sounds terrible on tick over just like a Diesel, then there is the fake noise trying to make it sound like a petrol, not to mention the fake exhaust tips that don’t do anything 🤷‍♂️ it’s almost as though Audi know it isn’t that car we want and they are trying really hard to solve a problem that didn’t exist with the petrol car, except the petrol S models were as you say too close to the RS models, don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to criticise anyone who has bought or ordered a Diesel S model, I’m just rather glad I got mine before the introduction of this version as I personally couldn’t put my money into this car, I would rather just go full electric with something else, and the day I have to go full electric I have finished with cars altogether 😂 Nice review though 👍
