Very cool, but I still prefer 4-cylinders. I feel like that horsepower is super low for anything calling itself a "supersport." But the torque is certainly nice.

People in the comments going mental because this bike uses the MT-07 engine. It’s an A2 friendly supersport, no other bike on the A2 market shares the same track style ergonomics so that’s a big win for Yamaha. Yes it’s not the R6 but they don’t sell well anymore so Yamaha made a street focused bike instead, which again is fantastic for new riders and people who want a super sport style bike that you can have fun with on the street.

Bikes are much more than just max power figures. It seems like a very well balanced bike and would probably be a perfect tool for perfecting lap times much like its little brother the r3. This bike could be a very useful skill builder for most people

They should’ve used the CP3 or modified the CP2 for some top end power. Don’t get me wrong, I loved this engine on my FZ07 but it’s nowhere close to competing against the RS660 or it’s predecessor the R6.

To everyone crying that the R6 is gone: it is not really. It will be continued as a non road legal competition model minus some road parts (lights etc). Euro5 compliance is what killed it

Exactly! It's like everyone bemoans the loss of the R6 but between emissions, low sales, and high R&D cost I can't see why they'd keep making supersport bikes for the street. When I was a new rider back in the early 2000s the only choices you had were the Ninja 250/500, GS500 or a full on 600cc supersport or a literbike. Which is great if all you wanna do is ride fast all the time, but for people who want to commute to work or whatever, it was a turn off IMO. Plus the newer SS bikes were like $13k. Plus insurance. For a weekend toy it just doesn't make sense

Quite excited for this, definitely the blue for me. The only thing that I dislike is that cyclops headlight! I assume the stylish side ones are the daytime running lights and that centre one is the high beam. It’s the only thing that makes the CBR650 look nicer, but the rear of the R7 looks much nicer than the CBR650, which looks the same as the CB650. I’ll have to see it in the flesh and wait for pricing, I really like the current generation of Yamaha R bikes in terms of styling.

Especially with there already being the XSR900 MT09 and an R9 it would fit perfect with what they have already done now with the 700 series bikes.

Agree. If you gonna put a fricken r on it then at least make it more competitive. Aprillia is less cc with more hp from the same type of engine (parallel twin) how does that even work. Should have called it MTS07 master of torque sport 07. I just cant help but think of the disservice that the r7 title does to the legendary r7.

Well Glenn, then you'd know that to bump the CP2's power up to CBR650 levels that they'd had to sacrifice it's massive low end torque advantage. The CP2 blows the doors off both the CBR650 and RS660 at everything under 8k rpm, which is the vast majority of real world riding.

Nothing will ever beat the Original R7 as a one off. In my opinion the original will always be one of the most iconic 750cc superbikes of all time. Especially with Haga being the the pilot.

looks nice but they didnt bump the engine up, i expected it to be more like 85-90 hp. Except for the quick shift and abs it looks like no more electronics, a few modes would be nice. And the ergo's look like it belongs on the race track and not on the road (my opinion) it only has the better price than the rs660 but less power, less electronics and the ergo's are to agressive

To me it seems like it's ergonomics are too aggressive for the street and power is too low for the track. The rs660 seems much more appealing. If they made an R9 with 115hp then I'd definitely consider upgrading from my mt07

can expect it is soft on top-end, but based on its sporty setting, it will still be fun on low speed track, street ride wise should be easy with the decent low end torque. 2-cylinders and 4 cylinders are a trade in, you get cheaper price tag, lower weight without compromising price tag, and low-end torque, you lost nice engine rev sound and high speed thrilling. in a nutshell, you get cheap and good thing but no more hardcore, its like a trend in many fields.

Basically a middle bike right between the R3 and R6. I think its cool. Definitely not a full race bike like the 600's. More of a street bike with fancy suspension and sport ego's and slipper clutch. It would be amazing if they made a super moto model. 700cc twin super moto! That would be rad.

I would love a R7 and a R9. I have many I4 bikes, V4s, a couple triples and various twins (not HD). I4’s with one exception are all track bikes. The R7 is down on power compared to the RS660 but I can live with that.

This is an amazing bike and I am really looking forward to seeing how it performs because while it is not as powerful as the R6 in terms of horsepower, the R7 it makes its power much lower in the rev range and it has a comparable level of torque. With that being said, the bikes are also very similar in weight, height and length so I am curious if Yamaha worked some magic to make this bike faster than the R6.

That's a shame A bike for track/twisties doesn't need torque at 2500 rpm New cams and valves to tune it for stronger mid range & top end (for aprox 90 bhp) would've been a welcome change. Couple that with an autoblipper and you've got a proper track weapon. I'm 90% sure that'll be this bike's doom

I just bought a cbr650r 2020 and was thinking of trading it in for this bike, but my cbr has 94hp and with a power commander and an akrapovoc full racing exhaust, it’s an awesome bike. It’s I think it’s about the same price, but I’m glad I’m sticking with my cbr650r. I would’ve loved to have an R7 had it bumped up specs a little.

It look pretty. And from the look of it, it does scream 'R6 replacement'. But maybe just me.. 73hp is too low, to replace 115hp+. I was hoping Yamaha to bump the power close to cbr650r, and rs660. Around 90hp or so. Havent ridden MT07 before so maybe it is just fine.

With the tuning capabilities that were out for the Late R6, and the updated ecu for the R7, what are the chances it is undertuned for the market to be legal in more territories, but can be "unlocked" via a tune? It would be awesome if this is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Overall it looks nice, I know narrow is more aerodynamic, but it does kinda look like the R3 which arguably resembles a scooter bike with fairings. Granted i am a tall guy so my opinion is biased.

Great review. Nice bike but I can't get past the running light screwing up all the shots. I suppose it's a nod to the MT-07 but all the competitors look better because they don't have that thing in the middle. And BTW I actually dig the new MT-07 front lights ✌

The bike looks great. Yam seem to be allergic to offering basic traction control for its budget bikes and, for a bike to use on track, an up and down shifter is essential, isn't it? If I was 20, I would love to have it anyway. Sadly, I'm not.

This is what i want Yamaha. Do a naked retro version of the T7 and call it SCR700. Also release a T3, SCR300 or XSR300 and make it look like the XSR125 and not the wonky looking XSR700 or 900.

@@Krishnendu792 This is the faired MT-07 that people desperately wanted. This is not the R6 replacement and never should have been a supersport at all. This bike is meant for the segment it's supposed to compete in. This is like complaining you got a cat when you wanted a dog. It's not comparable.

Dude it’s the MT-07 with fairings and modified suspension. They just made it high speed road worthy. You aren’t going to win any drag races and that isn’t what it’s for anyway.

It's a nice looking thing. The worst thing about the MT range was the messy looking engine so now it's faired over, it doesn't annoy me as much.... I'm old enough to remember how special (if ultimately a bit pointless) the old R7 was, I'd be fuming if I owned an original and from now on people will think your talking about a version of the MT when you mention it. I'm a fan of black but I'd have this in blue as the black looks a bit boring for some reason.

I put a deposit on one not that I am super excited about it but relative to other bikes and for what you get the price point is pretty good. Sold my R1M and tying to do a two for 1. A comfy, cool, fun bike like this or ideally the Aprilia and another liter bike just not as expensive as a M maybe a Gixxer or 10R that is a couple years old.

@@neznam9043 Good point. Did think about a supermoto. The best supermoto is actually the Husky FS 450 but it's not road legal it's just over $11K and would lose a bunch if I ever sold it since its so niche. The SWM supermoto would be a better choice for me but they are tough to find. Maybe the R7 will be enough for me and I an go that route. Off road is more fun to ride just gets to be a pain with trailering and then the clean up.

@@craigloomis20 That is a pain when you go full off road, but when you ride a supermoto the fun is that at any point you can just turn off the road and ride, you can go up and down the stairs and riding backroads and some stupid shortcuts and shit like that, i live in a small country with not much roads where you can go really fast, in my city only 1 road has two lanes for 1 way. So corners and a looooot of forests is where i can ride, buying a r6 doesnt make sense because the engine suffers, a lot of holes and only the highway where you can ride it fast but cops will get you in a matter of no time, everyone knows everyone so supermotos i love
