I think why you think the exterior goes to Merc is because the BMW used/show in the video is an i7 without M-Performance parts and the Merc is an AMG line. I think, with M-Performance parts, the BMW looks better.

The BMW from head to toe looks for a class higher limousine than current S class and only for the second time after the emergence of the E32 model which then arguably defeated the W126 model, makes a genuine assault to dethrone the S Class as the top-end limousine of the choice. BMW with the last two series (F01/F02 and G11/G12) took no risks by making only some minor evolutionary changes and consequently has been overtaken even by the Audi A8. But the Mercedes wanting to stay at the comfort zone, did the same with the current S class by making some small changes on the outside, and copying the Tesla model S concept from the inside (by adding more glamour). But in this case the risks paid off for 7er which will dominate the segment until the emergence of a model with new ideas from the overarching competitors.

To me the 7 series only looks good in darker colors and you'll need the right style/color/size combo for the wheels ... The S class is opposite and looks better with lighter colors and the wheels it comes with is a perfect fit ,, actually the 7 series i think will look best with a similar many spoke wheel ... What I love about the 7 series is it's shear size (a true land yacht) ,, it's wider and taller than the Maybach and it's damn near as long as well only 3'' shorter (in length) than the Maybach ,, if you're able to fit 22'' or 23'' wheels the 7 series is going to be absolutely massive in person

I've always liked Bimmer's exterior styling over Benz's, tho Benz always nailed it, far as dashboard is concerned. Ih seems to me (probably only just me) the Bimmer this time round, seemed to ave out-did itself somewhat with such distasteful "Frontal (Approach) Façade" design. Especially at having an unusual 4 headlights (giving a notion of as-if looking at spiders thru macro lens), as opposed to that absolutely handsome setup of the quite very recent past edition 7 Series' regular 2. Furthermore, the Iconic 'Kidney' pair Emblem this time also seemed hollow behind it, unlike its predecessor whos 'radiator grille' looking evry bit fortified solid, like as-if that of the Rolls'(-Royce's). These 2 features (by me) need be addressed in earnest b4 the product actually hit the road for good, say if they hav'nt already. 3rdly, Bimmer probably require soliciting US custom cars' paint scheme experts' input in bringing about better, more attractive, livelier color schemes. (by me) For as they now stand., the paint-job.., literally still monotone-bland somewhat, (the "paint job alone", here referring/denotes/meaning & "NOT" in anyway at all bringing into question BMW's already long established absolutely sound technical know-how & engineering expertise at Her creations), possibly in the league of just around some Asian players, apart from Japanese Mazda ( I supposed). To add justa bit more, the preceding version's nose or snout ( any a section what lies b4 the leading or front wheels) was already in evryway absolutely a thoughtful design. This latest's howevr, seemed to ave extended too far forward or a tad excessive to that overhang.
