Affalterbach. The S-Class has always played an important role for Mercedes-AMG. More than 50 years ago, the founders already proved that they could transform a luxury saloon into a very sporty vehicle with the Swabian spirit of innovation. The performance and sports car brand from Affalterbach set its first milestone in 1971, with the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.8 AMG. Today, the new Mercedes-AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE (combined fuel consumption, weighted: 4.4 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions, weighted: 100 g/km; combined power consumption, weighted: 21.4 kWh/100 km)1 with AMG hybrid technology once again sets the benchmark in the segment. The E PERFORMANCE model combines the AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine with the AMG-specific hybrid powertrain and a new expansion stage of the AMG high-performance battery (HPB).
The new HPB 150 is based on the high-performance and directly cooled battery cells of the well-known
HPB 80. The energy content increases from 6.1 in the HPB 80 to 13.1 kWh in the HPB 150. This increases the all-electric range to 33 kilometers.
The focus of the powertrain, however, is less on electric range and more on best-in-class performance. With 590 kW (802 hp) of system output and 1430 Nm of system torque, the saloon sets new standards in the segment. The acceleration of 3.3 seconds to 100 km/h and the optional top speed of 290 km/h underline the superior, dynamic driving performance. Systems such as the AMG RIDE CONTROL+ suspension, AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL roll stabilization and rear-axle steering as standard ensure a wide spread between driving dynamics and comfort.

I guess it's a form of up-selling combined with "green" virtue signaling, in regard to the C63 not getting a V8. This one is sweet, heavy because of batteries and electric engines, but sweet, especially the interior, Mercedes-Benz just got something the other Germans doesn't, BMW gets close, especially in build quality, it seems.

Loving the interior but wish it would be a stand alone option and not part of the Edition 1 package. The steering wheel is way to sporty for an S-class and would of preferred the Maybach steering wheel. The Maybach wheel option for me is a better look.

As a current owner of MB EQS, S560 and SL550 you can say I am a faithful MB client. This S63 is a beautiful car but has one issue that keeps me from purchasing one. All of the Screens in this auto look like an afterthought, that is they spent all of this time perfecting a wonderful automobile and now fall short in adding the screens that do not seem to fit. Why not continue with the Hyper Screen and put it in ALL of their units. Might seem like a petty complaint, but when I am spending over $200,000.00 for a vehicle I want the very best, unfortunately the inside screens on the dash speedometer and a second acting as an info centre and finally the ones in the rear; they all look terrible or perhaps an afterthought that they had to squeeze in. Change the entire dash and I am in, leave it the same and I go to Porsche or BMW.

Yet another review waxing lyrically about the noise this vehicle makes. While it might be amusing and entertaining during a short youtube review I'm sure that on a day to day use that same " wonderful " noise would do your head in. If only Mercedes and others had a " cancel exhaust noise " button!
