I started questioning Springfield Armory's quality a couple years ago. There was a guy at the gun store that just bought a brand newTRP and the frame was visibly out of spec. It was literally crooked. Springfield basically refused to help him or replace the firearm. Ever since then I've been very wary.

@@mikeyID I had a Loaded A1 model back in 2015. It worked fine, but didn't have a huge round count through it. Replaced it with a Wilson Combat. Even at that price point it still did 1911 shit. Stove pipes and needed extractor tuning. Very accurate pistols though.

If you don't like the 2 part guide rod, you can replace it with a full length guide rod from Wilson Combat and it works great. You won't have to full with breaking the guide rod down into 2 pieces. The Wilson Combat guide rod is very inexpensive as well.

Or you could get rid of it all together and go with the original John Browning design and put slotted screws back in the grips where you can work on it in the field with your pocket knife, like it was originally designed and never failed.....😮 I have personally never seen so much crap on handguns to make it heavier and useless in my life. I remember back in the 80s we used to have 45 long slides with 4-in laser scopes.... just goes to show you what comes around goes around

@@lynch6642I like the original design also. However I do prefer the commander style hammer over the spur. I can’t stand the beaver tail idk why anyone likes that it’s ugly as sin and makes no sense I’ve never had a gi grip safety fail to engage and not allow me to fire. It looks like a giant fish hook on the rear of the gun and a snag point to me.

@lynch6642 Speaking of the grip screws, Springfield uses hex screws that are quite soft and easily stripped. Another way they cheap it out but sell at a premium. So if that happens, to get it out you will either have to carefully drill it out or destroy the grips. A serious service 1911 will always have slotted screws cause flathead screwdrivers or anything that can be used as one will be more common.

Not much of an redot guy on a pistol. But I understand many people like them. Bet will see this option down the road. These are great offerings but do they beat out the prior TRP models as they are is yet to be seen. The big change to be is the new commander offerings. As I said in a prior post would love to see those with a steel frame.

Tip: When reassembling, clean the guide rod just wipe it down. Use rubbing alcohol to clean and wipe down the threads of the guide rod. Use a Q-tip to wipe the inside threads. It will keep it from backing out from the vibration when shooting. Grease the front part of the guide rod to keep the rod from galling as the spring compresses and expands from shooting.

I just tightened the 2 piece guide rod snugly with a hex wrench. I used to believe in guide rods, but Les Baer doesn't use them. Nighthawk doesn't use them. Ed Brown doesn't use them. Wilson uses some full length guide rods but Bill Wilson actually said that they are unnecessary but he sells 1911s with them as people asks for them so he isn't going to turn away business. And finally, the real FBI 1911, the SA Custom Professional doesn't use them. If you really get problem wirh them backing out, Option 1: toss it out and just use a GI guide rod. Option 2: use a 1 piece full length guide rods which is just a bit shorter than a 2 piece guide rods, so you just depress the front-less spring plug to turn the bushing and disassemble.

I have an actual FBI Professional Operator and I will say with 100% certainty that the TRP is the better gun for the money. That said, mine just has the prestige, the nobility, and the cool factor the TRP will never have. One note, the the FBI spec uses the GI guide rod and plug vs the TRP's full length guide rod. One thing I wish SA would do is use Dawson Precision's Tool-less full length guide rod instead of the screw in version.

So I just picked this gun up and ill be honest......it's definitely not on the same level as my Dan Wesson Specialist. The slide to frame fit is phenomenal.....but that's about where the good ends. The full length guide rod comes loose every 20-30 shots, so I have to keep retightening it between reloads. The safety......is fitted worse than my 700 dollar Garrison, it has a ton of play and over travel. This will probably go back to Springfield sadly. I did a 200 round range session today and a lot of my shots hit high. I was able to get a few good groupings when I really focused. My Dan Wesson Specialist is able to tear out a bulls eye with ease. Not to mention, ive owned the Dan Wesson a little over a year and around 1500 rounds and everything is still solid and tight, including the safety. I would definitely buy a Dan Wesson again before I buy another one of these new TRPs....just my two cents.

The FBI uses the SA Custom Professional, a fully hand fitted and hand tuned 1911 that comes out of their true Custom Shop. When the Custom Shop fulfills their annual contract to the FBI, the Shop then sends the rest for the civilian market. The Custom Professional costs about $3,700. The TRP is not completely hand tuned and hand fitted. It is not from their Custom Shop. Some parts are hand fitted, or just touched up a bit, or certain pieces just selected for a better fit. It does not cost $3,700 either. It runs about $1,700. It is a Poors Man's Custom Professional. Sorta of like buying a Tudor wrist watch instead of a Rolex. Nothing wrong with a Tudor either.

@@papimaximus95 The basic design of the 1911A1, has not changed, but the telephone has. The 1911 pistol was invented at at a time when cars and airplanes had just started. Now we have space vehicles that can land and operate on Mars. Today, in 2024, the 1911 pistol, a one hundred and thirteen year old invention, continues with high sales and use. Last I checked at least twenty-five gun manufacturers, still produce 1911A1 pistols, in the USA, and countries oversees. FACTS always tell the truth.

I kinda think that was @papimaximus95 point @@LoneStarLawman. The 1911 is a relic of the past that's been supplanted by more evolved pistols. True, it's quite functional, but it's an un-evolved relic nonetheless.

@@zanelittlegray Obviously, many 1911A1 owners, and those specialists that use, and trust to save people's lives everyday with the 1911A1 disagree. Go with the FACTS ..The un-evolved relic obviously still has a place today, among 1911A1 pistol owners, some military and specialized law enforcement. Gee, those pesky FACTS again.

I find it interesting that the trigger is around 3lb since many custom shops wont set a trigger below 3.5 without signing a waver. These TRPs must have had additional work before being sent to reviewers.

From what I’ve read on some forums, the 80% of the parts for the SA-35 (slide, frame, barrel, etc.) are made in Turkey by Tisas. Those parts are then shipped to USA where they are assembled. Allowing Springfield Armory to say “‘Made in the USA”. I would think the same story applies to their 1911’s. While it’s a tad misleading, I don’t have a problem with it whatsoever. It’s how they’re able to offer at reasonable prices.

Collecting these guys you probably remeber the loaded and Mil Specs having Brazil markings on the frames in the 1990s and early 2000s I have no problems with that but you are correct that I bet they were forged somewhere else. The Brazilian markings disappeared when people complained.

The TRP looks like a fine 1911 all right. The only thing that really bugs me about it though is that you have to have an Allen wrench in order to field strip it. My current EDC weapon of choice is my Springfield Armory 1911 Ronin chambered in .45ACP. It's a great shooter I can tell you. Anyone wondering about the 1911 then I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to try one out. And any doubts then you can always get one of the rental weapons at most gun shops that have a firing range.

I have obtained all of the original TRPs over the last 20 years. The only one I did not manage to obtain was the long slide 10mm. Those 10mm TRPs disappeared pretty quick . I welcome the return of the TRP. However not sure a big upgrade over the 2021 and before models other than a new FDE finish and new sights. Perhaps we will get the 10mm versions again. To me I never factored the TRP collection as the so called HRT pistol since there are some models sold as those still at a significant higher price . To me the TRP was just a nicely fit production pistol with some more factory TLC. The commander TRP appears interesting but wished it was not a alloy framed offering. Hope they bring out a forged steal framed commander. No problem with a alloy frame from springfield but again the loaded and prior offerings they had were pretty cool. Seeing the Dan Wesson commander out there and a bit cheaper that could feel the niche too.

Looks can be deceiving. I don't own this pistol, but in general 1911's in 45 acp are notorious for being unreliable with hollow point ammunition. They have thin feed ramps and that can catch certain hollow point bullets as they feed causing a jam. The 2011 variants with 9mm are much better and hold twice the capacity. Beautiful pistol regardless!

@@Uberragen21OLD 1911s have been notorious for not feeding hollowpoints. Newer made 1911s have corrected the feed ramp angle and we have a lot better magazines. Things are different now. My Springfield loaded series .45 has been completely reliable with hollowpoints and lswc ammunition. I edc the 1911 I build, and same thing, reliable. Properly built, they will run no problem. Cheap out on a 1911 or get a Kimber, you ask for problems.

@@4mrholsterco981 I use Chip Mccormic 8 rounders, But occasionally a high end 1911, with tight tolerances, will have FTF and or FTE problems, as some of you know, tolerances can be stacked to cause a problem if they are not in the gun, that they were adjusted for, where as the sloppy GI guns, were sloppy enough that any part would work in any gun, Like Glocks. If I were stuck with one gun, I would take a Glock over a TRP, if I could have as many as I chose, I would have one of each.
