Proof for me that Gerber has NO idea how to make a proper tool. Wtf is a saw that short for? And the entire stake component is made obsolete by the carabiner! Miss
@pretentiousname01Күн бұрын
Especially since the carabiner has the full “in line” strength of the frame. Rather than the oversized parcel hook which is much thinner and could easily get damaged
@andythebreadbaker9925Күн бұрын
Couldn't you just use the pliers to pull the camp stakes out? 🤔

I’m not sure what this is for. Why have pliers if no bit driver? If it’s supposed to be for camping, why the pliers? If it’s for urban use then it has no drivers. It looks like a bad version of the Signal or bad version of the Freestyle. Hard pass on this one.
@pretentiousname0118 сағат бұрын
@ sog had a camping multi tool with pliers they just showed off. Though the pliers on that are on an angle so you can grab cooking equipment out from a fire with a more natural hold

Sounds like it might be a good alternative to the signal, for someone who wants a slight smaller tool. Could be a really good option for a kid's first knife, if you do camping and other outdoor sports

@hvacbudget8600 discussed that question a few months ago. If I recall correctly they were acquired by a different company and possibly stopped developing new products. Not sure if that is still going on.

Gosh, if the steel was just better. For a scandi ground knife the steel and heat treat is just awful. I don't really care on a general purpose utility knife but this is straight up made for wood carving. My stake out did great with that, for about 2 seconds. It's a low grade steel, heat treated too soft, that is too thin, which sucks because the shape and thickness are really nice for carving but it just can't hold up to anything remotely hard. Also what the heck? The took out the scissors??

Gerber looking at the outdoor rec spaces for expansion - half price of Signal with about 75% of the utility.

These small multi tools need to ditch the plier head, and go with a decent set of scissors instead. Far more useful on a small multi tool.

I just don't get the gimmick of the hook. It feels like one of those things you have to make up situations for the use of, unless you're a really dedicated camper or something. It's really niche. There's so many niche use or outdated tools or tools too small to actually be useful on these multi-tools to anyone but specialists, just to bloat the tool set. It makes me imagine the ultimate gimmick multi The Gerber Useless, it'll have a parcel hook you have to strain to figure out a use for, a ruler too small to use on anything, tiny flimsy scissors too small to use on anything, a bottle cap lifter you'll use twice a year, a corkscrew that at best you'll use to store an after-market add-on micro-tool that's actually useful, a poorly tempered glass breaker that can't break glass, dull tweezers and a toothpick that bends into nothing after five uses. And some people would try to justify its utility. Even the hook, if you're actually camping that much, get a dedicated tool that's actually long enough to make it convenient to use. I dunno. Maybe in my age, I am becoming A Man Of Many Opinions but... I just hate added tools that you have to go out of your way to find a use for.

if you tent camp and use a Dutch oven it'll be useful almost every outing. It might not be the most useful tool ever added, but it's far more appropriate for a camping tool than a Philips head and 3 sizes of flathead. In fact, to go towards your comment on useless tools, I cannot understand why Leatherman invented their multibit system and then continue to make tools that either don't have it, or have it in addition to multiple dedicated screwdriver bits. They could use that space to add bit holders and end up increasing the tool count. And on the same tone, why does Gerber insist on using single sided only multi bits even in the dual force, where the bit holders take up all the internal tool volume, so the screwdriver is 1/5 of its utility

I have a SAK with a hook and I use it all of the time. One of the most useful tools I've ever used. You can carry heavy things, tie and untie knots, lift pots and grill grates, pull stakes and sinch down tents and hammocks. Very underrated!
