That power tailgate is a mechanically complex solution to a nonexistent problem. When that motor craps out, and it will, do you really want that expense???

I wouldn't be so confident in saying "nonexistent problem". If I am carrying bulky stuff that requires two hands operation, I can give it a simply knee tap instead of dropping down the items to close the tailgate then pick the items back. How reliable it is going to be will be up to Toyota to figure out, but it certainly is useful feature and help sales.

@happycamper6352Ай бұрын
I live in a community where everyone has a 1500 Chevy or Ram, F150, or Tundra. None of 'em do almost anything that would justify owning a truck, except tow a camper maybe 2-4 times a year. That's why Toyota won't listen to customers like us. We're a minuscule minority compared to these new pickup buyers that don't really need a truck at all, who trade their trucks long before a power lift gate fails. They just want to make living rooms with tiny stubby beds that still somehow get labeled as pickup trucks. Pathetic really, but Toyota still loves the money.

Have they fixed the interior fit squeeks and rattles? The whistling door seals? The lack of cargo room in the hybrid models? Does it have front tow hooks yet? Is there an inverter in the bed area yet? Are the approach and departure angles still worst in class? Is the turning radius still horrendous? Is the premium jbl stereo still worst in class? Just curious if they have made any improvements.
@happycamper6352Ай бұрын
Yes, all of these problems still exist, except, the inverter has always been available since 2022, although pathetic at 400 watts. Please don't complain about lack of interior cargo space. This is not a sedan, crossover, or SUV and complaints like yours further the problem of over-bloated cabs and stupid short stubby beds. If you want interior space, don't get a pickup truck or put a cap/topper on the bed.
@juice3381Ай бұрын
Regarding cargo room. My 2014 has hardly any interior cargo space. Fast forward to 2024 and the hybrid not only takes a relatively flat floor but takes the entire flat floor. It's a de evolution and sheer incompetence by a design team that had a decade to get it right.

Why doesn't Toyota put the power inverters in these trucks like the Grand Highlander Iforce and the Tacoma IForce. Ford has been doing this on the F150 hybrid since 2021. Come on Toyota.
@happycamper6352Ай бұрын
Because new pickup truck buyers are too ignorant to know how weak and limited a 400 watt outlet is. They just see the outlet and think it's as strong as a common 15 or 20 amp outlet in a house.
@GoldenK9CampersАй бұрын
@@happycamper6352 That sucks. We upgraded our RAV4 Prime to the top trim just to get a 1500W outlet. It's such a game changer being able to run most of our trailer when camping. @happycamper6352Ай бұрын
@@jes5434 I probably deserved that, as it was a bit unfairly harsh, but I get really worked up when I find fake engine noise that is bundled without a non-bundling option for higher performance hardware. Your first one that you say lasted so long was a real truck. I have no trouble believing that at all. We're already seeing tons (yes, literally and measurably tons) of failing Tundra engines, despite them all being less than 3 years old. Everyone wants to "feel something" when they drive their pickup truck, like they're trying to compensate for not feeling something without it. I don't need a truck to make me feel something, I need it to do something. I just saw a review of a Tundra where the sticker said that it only had 1300 pounds for payload... My old beat up Tacoma has 1280 (2009 access cab off-road) and I'm looking to replace it soon with something that can haul and tow more through some rough WV unimproved roads. The review truck can carry only 20 more pounds... that's less than two and a half gallons of milk difference for ~$70,000! I wish I could find your old Tundra, it's still probably in good shape and can haul more. I could probably toss in a load of oak and still have plenty of suspension travel.
