NEW 2025 Volkswagen Golf R Black Edition Revealed

Volkswagen has introduced the 2025 Golf R, and among its exciting variants is the exclusive Golf R Black Edition. This special edition model brings a host of unique features and enhancements, making it a standout in the refreshed Mk8.5 Golf lineup.
At the heart of the Golf R Black Edition is the updated turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering an impressive 329 horsepower, an increase of 14 horsepower over the previous model, and 310 pound-feet of torque. This power allows the hatchback to sprint from zero to sixty-two miles per hour in just 4.6 seconds, thanks to its all-wheel-drive system and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with torque vectoring. With the optional Performance Package, the top speed is an exhilarating 167 miles per hour, while without it, it is capped at 155 miles per hour.
The Golf R Black Edition is immediately distinguishable with its darkened Volkswagen badges and R logos, black brake calipers, and sleek black 19-inch Estoril wheels. The rear is adorned with black tailpipe trim, complementing the aggressive look. The IQ.Light LED matrix headlights and the Performance Package, which includes a large roof spoiler, a G-meter, a GPS lap timer, and the Special and Drift driving modes, are standard on this edition.
A significant highlight of the Black Edition is the availability of the new 19-inch Warmenau forged wheels, which are 17.6 pounds lighter per rim compared to their alloy counterparts, enhancing both performance and aesthetics.
Inside, the Golf R Black Edition continues the premium theme with a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster featuring Volkswagen's Digital Cockpit Pro. Special Golf R details enhance the gauges, and the cabin includes redesigned, illuminated volume control and temperature sliders, providing both functionality and style.
While European customers can look forward to the Golf R Black Edition's launch in June, specific details for the United States market have yet to be announced. The revamped hatchback and wagon, the latter not coming to the U.S., will start pre-sales in Europe with the Golf R Black Edition offering a unique blend of performance and exclusive styling. Volkswagen has indicated that the model will be sold at a lower price in Germany, but it remains uncertain if the U.S. market will benefit from a similar discount.

Meh. It's too bad they don't offer it in any other color options. The slab on the dashboard is horrendous, obnoxious and intrusive. New Clubsport isn't too far behind aside from not being awd. VW couldn't equip this edition with 4-pot brembos? This will easily be over 60k in the States from dealer markups. May as well start looking at the RS3. It's too bad the sport back option isn't offered in the US 😑
