I'm a construction estimator and yes, they get paid very well and deservedly so. The highest pay per hour goes to the crane operator. #2 in the crane cab is a bucket. This video was shown on a nice summer day and not all days are as pleasant.

I've had the opportunity to work as part of iron workers union. Nothing this tall but several hundred meters up. After about 10min up there and being in tether Harness you get used to it fast. That's my own experience at least. I'm not an adrenaline junkie and believe it or not I've got coworkers that are extremely scared of heights and still don't complain

Every time I watch a video with guys working ridiculous heights, I get this weird feeling in my legs! Much respect for these brave dudes!!!!! The thing people don’t realize about a fear of heights, is that you also get the bad anxiety from watching others working high up too.

I'm blown away at how skilled and how they're putting each piece together accurately. What a structure amongst all of the others. New York is skyscraper capital of the world. It lives up to it's name The Concrete Jungle. Last trip was in 1991.....I'm overdue.

I would never do that kind of work. I don't even like being on the inside of a building that tall, much less hanging out on a beam. Please show some the inside spaces at they are being worked on and I hope you will do a whole building tour when it is completed. Thanks for the video.

I grew up in North Jersey where all my buddies (steel worker) were in the trades. One good friend worked on a number of buildings in NYC in the early 80's. This is when safety was not as paramount as it is today. The stories he told. Every project meant someone died.

Heights is my biggest weakness. I've parachuted a number of times but actually the vertigo is more pronounced when closer to the ground, such as 600ft up trying to line a pin up with a framing hammer while keeping balance. Guys got balls.

By the way, that used to be my old building when I worked for Manufacturers Hanover Leasing Corporation in the 1980s. That building was beautiful and I was sad to see they took it down and are now building this one.

@ I agree with you but not happy the original Commodore Hotel facade wasn’t saved. It’s going to overshadow the Chrysler Building and hope the design also has an observatory like Summit One on Vanderbilt tower. Can you imagine how awesome looking down on the spire of the Chrysler Building would be despite the proximity? Have they demolished the Grand Hyatt yet and when is it scheduled for completion?

Absolutely insane! They are amazing and should be getting paid high six figures for this kind of work. We had to stop watching this because both my daughter and I are sensitive to heights and I think I lost both of my ovaries because all of the sensation was in that area. LOL and we are watching this from my bed but we were both squirming here watching them on the very edge and looking down like nothing!!! I bet you when they go to amusement parks, they go straight for the roller coasters! ❤ God bless them and protect them.
