Over more than 35 years I've used bells. Two tones. Yelp/Wail. Hi low. And bullhorn. Just my opinion this and all from a London only experience, but two tones were without doubt the most effective audible warning. They were clear, directional, didn't get lost amid in- car music and would pre-warn motorists much futher ahead than the other sounds. But like I say that's just a London perspective.

Im with you ive done 37yrs in the brigade i got my HGV driving Commers/Bedfords /Dodge Saxon/Volvo/Mann..and tthe commer with the bell and two tones wins hands down

in my opinion they should still have the 2 tones, nothing says "GET THE F*** OUTTA THE WAY" better than the 2 tone lol plus to me its a good indication of the size of the vehicle coming up behind you

My thing is, why are two tones out of service now?? You can actually distinguish between Ambulance, Police and Fire that way. I know it sounds daft but it's better if you can distinguish between the three because in my area it's mostly ambulances you hear wailing about, you seldom see fire engines, so look at this situation: Say you're sitting in traffic, you hear sirens in the back, you think you can get away with moving a bit to the side since an ambulance can fit through that way, but you look behind and it's a Fire engine, you'd have preferred to have more warning that you should have made more room right? Well that's how I see it anyways. Long story short BRING BACK TWO TONES!!!

Nice video, thanx for posting, like others have commented , the two tone horns are far more effective in my opinion never understood why they changed to sirens, although I think the introduction of bull horns was a good idea. Supposedly both the engines made the trip from Norwich sprowston fire station.

They are both Wroxham Appliances, not filmed at the same time. Look at the plate high up just behind the crew cab, it has the code WRO for Wroxham

We use the same MAN 4x4 fire engines in the RAF, first one was delivered to the Falklands at least 6 years ago, really good for getting over the marshes and horrible roads.
