I plan on putting a set of leads a ground and the battery positive post under my Dash. with iignition key switch on the positive side to cut it off when not in use. And you only need the positive insulated red post the ground you could make up cheaper from a hardware store with a threaded bolt with nuts and blue Loctite on it. Cigarette lighter plugs end up melting the positive Center out of them with a lot of current. I had many of them to do this. I would not leave them unattended with power going to the cigarette lighter plug.

Question about the AC output socket. I see that it only has 1 plug in. Let's say I have several small items to charge. Let's say a dewalt cordless drill battery and the battery on an eco weedeater. Would it be ok to plug a power strip into the AC outlet, then plug both items into the power strip? Obviously I know it's not like using a power strip on main AC power, and having every outlet on the power strip filled with stuff running, but what about two small things? Each one pulls about 20 watts to charge, and it would be time consuming to charge one, then charge the other, when I could just use a power strip and charge both at the same time.

@user-lm3ll1jp7f5 жыл бұрын
@@HOBOTECH I did write them. Waiting for reply. This is what I wrote: www.jackery.com/pages/contact This is more of a request. I own a Jackery 240, and would like to get the Jackery 500. The one thing that is stopping me is the low wattage cutoff. I use 2 maxair fans in my van. They have the ability to be programed to turn on when the temp reaches X degrees. The problem is. They only draw a few watts while waiting for the temp to come up. The Jackery 240 will turn off after 3 hours, before the fans can turn on. My suggestion/request is that you implement a bypass feature. Basically this will allow low wattage draw till the battery is at its minimum. The way I recommend this be implemented is that when turning on the power souce, one would press and hold the power source button for 5-10 seconds. This would enable the low wattage draw bypass on that source. Be it the 12v, USB, or Inverter.... If you implement this, I know there is a lot of users that would love this feature. I remember the first time I set my fans to temp control and came back at the end of the day and found them to be off.. I was shocked and frustrated.... and ready to return the unit. I had food that went bad, and a very hot van... But I read the manual again very carefully.... and found the low wattage cutoff... So now I just leave my fans on all day at 11-15watts draw... which to me is a waste and not very efficient. My other suggestion is to have a way to update the firmware. This way, when you do tweaks to the settings, everyone can apply them. I thank you for your time. Have a great day. Tim

Finally a bigger capacity version that can be charged from 12V. That was the Achilles heal of the 440 whch made it kind of like the bastard child. For me the 500 is a contender that will rival a custom AGM (100Ah) setup in price and performance. The thing that would surely bring this to the top is an extra input to allow it to be connected directly to the alternator via a battery isolator just like one would do with a custom setup. The 12V charge rate (from 12V oulet) is still not good enough and there is no way to have it connected to solar and 12V outlet at the same time. Thx for the video. Good stuff.
@HOBOTECH5 жыл бұрын
Technically you can connect to solar and 12v at the same time. If you use the load output of most solar controllers you can send isolated 13.6v to the Jackery while the engine is running and direct solar when it is not. You can even program most load outputs to cut off at a certain time or low voltage.
@christianholmstedt87705 жыл бұрын
OK probably correct but even so the max charge rate possible when hooked up to the alternator is still going to be 42W (50W?) right? On top of that I still need a charge controller so I don't know, seems a bit confuscated An alternator can charge at way higher currents so a normal isolator wins here for charging while driving, meaning a 'classic' system would be better. At least my thinking for now. I do like the idea of these units. Almost perfect.
@christianholmstedt87705 жыл бұрын
What would be the better setup? 1 x Jackery 500 2 x Jackey 240 (or Honda 290) With a permanent solar on the roof one 240 can be connected to that and the other to 12V while driving. For the 500 it's either or. Hmmm.
@HOBOTECH5 жыл бұрын
Depends on your AC power needs mostly as the 500 has a 500 watt inverter vs the 200w of the 240. If you'll never need more than 200 watts AC then two 240's is better in a small camper environment. Mainly because you can put them in two different places. You can use one for a fan across a room while the other powers your laptop, or in my case I use the 240 under the hood to power lights on my engine to keep the mice away.
@christianholmstedt87705 жыл бұрын
Very minimal AC. I'm more interested in running a 12V cooler. One 240 unit is not going to cut it while two of them will if they are swapped. One can then be on solar to charge and the other connected to 12V while driving for example. One 500 unit would probably work fine with backing of 100W solar but I doubt it will work on 12V charging alone. I say that (or speculate) because a 100Ah AGM connected to the alternator is likely to be sufficient and work even better backed by 100W solar. That's my thinking for now. $500 for it is s till a competitive price.

@HOBOTECH5 жыл бұрын
Official operating temp is 32F-104F but I'm sure you can use it outside of that range. You just won't be able to charge it below freezing as it does have protection for that. Lithium doesn't have load and rebound issues like lead acid. It just "puts out" up to the limit of the battery itself which is well above what the controlled outputs allow.

At the end of the day, is it good to recharge it up to 100% right after use, or wait until down to like 50%? With my old Duracell 500 powerpack that uses a Lead Acid battery, I was always told that for those old batteries, you'll keep it longer if kept full charged. 18650 LiNiMnCoO2 cells used in just about everything. They typically have 1000-2000 cycle life but can go as low as 500 if you fully discharge and recharge. Lesson: Don't fully discharge unless you have to. Go down to 10% and recharge.
@heatherphilips92275 жыл бұрын
To get the longest life from "these units" ( all Jackery models ) is to charge to about 85%, and discharge to about %15. If you are in need of that extra boost, 90/10 is the max I would recommend. This will extend the charge cycles from 500 "up to" 2000.

@hillbilly tech It's not LiFePo4. They say right on the website that it's "NMC" type. Anyway, they are being very conservative stating ">500 cycles" and that doesn't mean the cells die or explode. It generally means the cells will be at 80% capacity and this is at 100% DoD. If you only take it to 80% DoD you'll easily get over 1000 cycles before noticing any capacity loss. Honestly, I just use the damn thing however I want. 1000 cycles is nearly 3 years if you cycle every day. I'll be looking for something else that's better by then.

What is the maximum solar Watts that you can put into it? this would be the 500 I'm asking about
@HOBOTECH5 жыл бұрын
100 watts is the max input rate. You can feed it as much as you want as long as you stay in the 12-30 volt range.
@weswalker12085 жыл бұрын
@@HOBOTECH this 500 and your new battery should set you free. Thank you for the response. It would seem along with a hundred watt panel this would be hard to beat because it is all I 1 and you can run it till it's dead without repercussion. Time to start saving and there will definitely order it through you with any applicable discounts via hobotech. This eliminates the complications of cramping the right size fuses excetera
@HOBOTECH5 жыл бұрын
Yes. I am seeing more and more build outs using large power stations vs hard-wired batteries. Makes sense in many ways. The discount on the 500 will be 20% ($100 off) until month end. Hopefully you can snag one by then as I'm pretty sure it won't be 20% off after that for a while.

You can technically use any solar panel but it needs an 8mm output. The SolarSaga 100 was designed specifically for it so you'd expect better performance. It's very compact and has it's own stand too.

Okay so quick man splain about the wattage rating... basically it says 1000watt peak in terms of the micro fierite rating which is compensating for bleed off ac current from the charging. Technically speaking you can connect 2 inverter so one charges the other and thus have more wattage but don't jump the shark beyond 800watt or so elets you can blow the capacitor before tripping the fuse.
@douglastaylor435 жыл бұрын
What is the peak wattage output.

For the inverter its 500 watts continuous and 1000 watts peak.

Hey Tom I don't find the video right off you were talking about not getting referred to new possible subscribers. I was looking into that. You may already know about it but there is a way to view how many hits Google gets and KZbin get on a particular phrase. Let's say it is cooking steak. You put the word steak in and you get X number views per day or month or whatever and then you add Barbecue Pit indirect Heat for example and it changes the numbers. The reason that the drama post get hits is because there is key words that increases views. You were working on the generator that air conditioner. Free air conditioning would get a lot of hits. But of course that isn't true it's not free but it's almost free compared to hookups. So accurate description for that would be almost free air conditioning plug-in words like tiny house desert camping find the best combination in the description. This post is incomplete because I don't know where you get the search results but I bet you do
