The Doux just dropped a new gel, the 808 Base Gel, to pair with their infamous Mousse Def Texture Foam. I grabbed products and am trying this wash n go combo on my type 4 hair. Is this a new holy grail combo or will this be a wash n go fail? Check out the video to find out.

As a styler, definitely couldn’t use it alone. I did use it with Big Poppa and my results were short lived (obviously lol) BUT the refresh midweek…was awesome 🤯 and that’s what I’ll continue to use it for…but under Bee Girl instead. Gonna use up big poppa and not repurchase. My hair *immediately responded to being spritzed with water* like I’d just washed and applied the 808. I’ve never had a refresh like that, and it only took 15 minutes-loved that. I usually just get frizz and the water spritz just sits on top of my hair when I refresh with hard hold gels, not so with glycerin-based. And I can live with that honestly, since I know I’m not getting a week out of it anyway. With my length, I just don’t want to do a cowash refresh. I can I just don’t want to lol. This new generation of glycerin gels actually allows me a simpler refresh. I’ll take that. Because botanicals are always a faster application time for me, with short lived results. Hard hold gels are longer applications, but last all week. I feel like I finally have a happy medium with 808.

I had the same issue with the pump. It just took a while but it worked eventually. This combo left my hair feeling limp and almost wet (after drying). Going to try the base gel under the Bee Girl.

Nisha, your hair is gorgeous, and definitely a vast improvement over the previous one. I am not a fan of Mousse Def; it did not work for my hair at all. When I used it, my hair was in the desert gasping for water. This combo, though, has me thinking I might actually try it again. Thanks for the video.

Thanks love 💕. Yes this wash n go was def better than the Curls Blueberry wash n go. I def think the gel helped with the moisture under the mousse. I think you should def try it on top of one of your favorite gels.

I like the BeeGirl mousse better than the Mousse Def as it has more hold and the honey makes it more moisturizing too imo. I love it in my hair and my daughter's hair which is thick like yours. I actually loved this gel with the BeeGirl mousse better than Mousse Def. I got 6 days out of my WnG.

I bought the base gel because I love layering a softer gel that clumps my hair under a strong gel. It wasn’t my favorite but I’ll definitely keep using it at least until the bottle is empty

While I loved the way my hair looks with this combo, I had to give it up because the flaking was embarrassing! I gave it like 6 weeks worth of tries and even clarified but no dice. 🥴

Thank you! I was about to order this base gel but I’m glad I looked at reviews before hand. Flaking is the reason why I can’t use any gel. I only use mousses now, for braids outs and wash n gos. I’ll pass on this one then

@@jenjoestar. If it’s high on the ingredient list in my styler my hair tends to look very poofy and frizzy (not defined) and day 2 my hair will be very dry.

Curlsmith's In Shower Style Fixer strong hold gel and Soultanicals' Fro'zen Supa Hold Gel are holy grails of mine BUT they both have glycerin. For the ISSF, it's the 3rd ingredient, after water and polyquaternium-69. Polyquats are great for forming protective films on the hair, especially during humidity, but with glycerin that high on the list it may not be worth the risk. Me and Curlsmith don't get along when it comes to stylers, I mainly go back to them because their bond builder helped me recover from damage and I have to give credit where credit is due, but the ISSF is the only styler of theirs I like. Works great on top of the Multi-tasking Conditioner, also from the purple strengthening line. As far as the Supa Hold Gel goes, vegetable glycerin is the 6th ingredient. There are 11 in total, so it's in the middle of the ingredient list after film formers maltodextrin and flaxseed gel. Sorbitol appears before vegetable glycerin but that is also a humectant if I recall correctly. If any of this gives you pause, don't feel bad about avoiding them. Sometimes it's not worth the risk.

I literally had to press the pump like 100 times and then it started to work. I agree with you tho, my hair never felt dry with this stuff. I dried for like an hour and then said eff it..😅. I used it as a base gel and used the Big Poppa gel on top. It was okay but I probably wouldn’t do that combo again.

I meant to say this on your Curls video. They need to update their website because I did not see glycerine listed as an ingredient for the gel that is why I put on the list. Their custard do have glycerin

I almost didn’t buy it because of the high glycerin content. My hair doesn’t like glycerin. I used it with the Mousse Def form. My hair came out Okay but I couldn’t tolerate the fragrance. It was a bit strong for me. The Doux Mousse Def is a staple for me. Not sure about the gel though. Your hair is very pretty.

I think they could potentially work. I would be concerned about flaking the most. Don’t want to make any promises since I’ve been slacking with making videos, but if I do try it I will def make a video on it

I don’t think it’s you setting yourself up for failure. I think it’s you basically assuming that because these products supposedly cater to our natural hair, that they would be in tune with what glycerin does to our hair. I wld think MOST products that claim to tame/style or whatever they call it, would not have an additive that would do the opposite by making it puff up. It’s utterly ridiculous. I’m done with some of these companies’ science projects! I would return it.

Right! I know that products react differently for people but I feel like so many people have issues with glycerin and their hair not being defined. Hey love 💕. Everyone's hair can react differently to glycerin but for me it adds too much moisture to the point where my hair swells and gets frizzy and doesn't stay defined. I like my styles to be more defined so glycerin in the first 5 ingredients doesn't really work for me. I hope that helps ☺️
