I adopted a FIV cat almost a year ago. We are best friends. He's so sweet. However he is very sick right now. Not eating much and losing weight. I am glad and thankful for his love. I would recommend these cats. He has given so much love and companionship. He'll be seeing a vet in few days. I'm hoping he will recover. But if not, I don't regret having him in my life, and being able to give him a better life.

I'm currently working on making a feral only cat sanctuary. The property is huge , many acres, cat proof fence around the whole property!!, ill have feeding stations throughout property, its full of trees, feral outdoor houses plus 1 person house on property.. Possibly2. There is a fresh water creek,.and a walking path throughout property. People can come walk the path ..it will be like a "cat safari"!! Ill accept any feral cat colonies who are in danger ,having a hard time, being kicked out of their current location. They will be S\N before entering. And I would encourage any researchers or groups to come and do research and studies

Thanks 🙏 so much for this wonderful informative video.. I am trying to adopt a male neutered cat who is FIV and FeLV positive and whose age is according to the rescue shelter between 2 and 8 years old. I do have a rescue female kitty who is approximately 7 months. Neither the potential adopter cat and my cat are very even tempered and I am sure with careful introduction will like harmoniously. I was told that my cat is at risk, but I believe that I can manage their care very well . To me it is so important to adopt cats with special needs. I hope others will listen to this video and realise that they too can adopt a positive cat.

All cats fight occasionally, neutered cats fight, too. Even my former 17 year old female neutered cat was sometimes attacked by another cat and had to fight back. Even my current two neutered twin sisters who only live indoors fight (for fun) and have small bite wounds after playing.

They all need somewhere to live. We have had one cat with FELV he lasted two years and died with a mass and fluid repeatedly filling in his chest (We had it drained to see how long it would take to fill and see if he could live comfortably, he could not and we had him euthanized) We have one with FIV. So far he is no different from our other cats. (Except we were recommended to not have them together.) He is sweet and seems healthy and happy 6 years on so far. I would hesitate in taking in another FELV positive cat. Just because it was heartbreaking. As well as I would not feel safe integrating one with negative cats. All in all thank you for this information. I will bring it up to my wife and see if we can try integrating our FIV positive cat with our negative crew.

I had to put my FeLV 10 month old kitten down 2 weeks ago. His chest was full of fluid and he had lymphoma 😢 He lost a sister a couple months before that is when I found out the stray litter and mother I rescued were infected. I notified the adopters and informed them of the bad news. I still have one of the boys. I hope I can keep him healthy. He's missing his brother. They were very bonded. I was told that stress needs to be avoided in these kitties.

Which is more accurate test for FeLV? ELISA or IFA?

Is it possible an abortive infection can test positive in the antigen test when they were first infected and then abort it completely and test negative on both?

My girlfriend and I took today one of our 2 cats to see if she needed the vaccine, but she tested positive por FelV, I've been researching the whole day watching videos and reading, so in summary I should retest her and test the other cat too? It's been quite a sad day both cats are indoor cats and we take good care of them

No, your indoor cats don't need the vaccine, because they are not exposed to other cats. And if a cat is infected it shouldn't get the vaccine, because this may cause the sickness to break out.

You should test both cats. Always. And if they’re cubs still, retest them later. If one cat is positive and the other negative then yes, of course you should vaccinate the negative one. If not, only vaccinate them with the other vaccines that are not for felv.

Is there any study about how cats shed the virus? I’ve seen cats that took regular felv test and they show negative results
