Another great video. Could not hear what he said the problem was power pole? Anyways, in the old days we have a 110 merc outboard and if it was a dead battery, with key on there was pull cord you wrapped around on the top and you could literally pull start it like a lawn mower. It was surprisingly easy, I was just a little guy at the time back then but I could do it. We haven't had outboards for years so guessing they dont come that way anymore. Hope the jumper was ok. We monitor channel 16, and can always hear the Canadian Coast base out of Victoria BC with a strong signal, but dont always hear the boaters side which is frustrating when you are trying to help...
@CaptKenO7 ай бұрын
I think some of the small (like 50hp or less) come with a pull cord still, but most engines don't. We had a couple more tow that day, and by time we left that night, we hadn't heard of any of the situations being resolved 😐

@@CaptKenO Had a Merc 150 XR6 with a pull cord in the top of the cowling. Fortunately never had to use it. Can't imagine it even being possible. I've pull started some big motors (when I was younger) and it took both feet on the transom and suspending yourself off the rope then just pushing back with your legs. You know you are going to fall on the deck and hoped like h*ll the motor started because you didn't want to do that again.

Seems in both marine and ATC, responders prefer the quality of cell phone contact over vhf etc. Wonder if Space X Sky Net will eventually be the default system?
@CaptKenO6 ай бұрын
VHF sucks, but there's really no replacement for it. The CG likes to use cell when possible because it provides clearer communication and doesn't tie up the VHF channels

The water was very nice that day. When I was telling my brother about your channel he asked which company. I kept thinking Tow Boat, but that's not right...he kept saying SeaTow. So we brought up a video and duh...TowBoat. Then he promptly told me I need to get a membership for my boat, but I don't know if TowBoat US offers services in Oklahoma.

Do a google search for towboat us and your boating area and see what comes up. We've got a presence in most if not all states...but sometimes they may be on one of the larger lakes and not service your area

Hey, can you share how Tow Rates work for your company..... just a ball park idea of the cost to show up & per mile back to a marina if that's what a boater wants? I'm curious b/c of some antics I saw another Tow group do at a sinking vessel down in South Florida. Is it like $500 + mileage or based upon Time/Miles? Ball park if you can?
@CaptKenO7 ай бұрын
So towing and sinking/salvage rates are two completely different things. I won't quote our salvage rates since that varies by the job, but our non-member rates are $400/hr
@diggy-d8w7 ай бұрын
@@CaptKenO got it & thanks for the ballpark on this. It fills in questions as I see you work, that's all? Yeah, I can't imagine all the considerations involved when a boat is on bottom. Danger, the vessel, & expertise dictates a lot of salvage prices but you told me all I needed. TY much

@CaptKenO6 ай бұрын
We have 2 boats in service at all times covering Sarasota/Manatee River and 4 captains to cover the required shifts, so right now we don't have any open shifts to give another captain. Bobby has no tow experience, so we're training him to be a backup captain in the event one of the 4 captains leaves.
