For me, it wasn’t the release of different APs. It was the fact that they decided to not include the original accessories. Along with the price increase it just didn’t gel. It felt anti-customer focused. Increase the price, fine, but don’t skimp as well. I still love my aeropress 😉❤️
@DaddyGotCoffee6 ай бұрын
Yeah one thing I have learned is there is a widely varied attachment to the accessories they got rid of. I never used my funnel and I found the filter holder… bad 🤣. IMO, they made the overall initial experience of the aeropress overall more confusing and I was actually fine to see them go. BUT some people (including local friends of mine), use those accessories all the time. So I get both sides of this, but I also applaud Aeropress on finally delivering on other things people had been asking for for years

Carried a cheap plastic coffee cup with a travel lid because it looked indestructible. It was. The Aeropress was often my only source of coffee for months at a time and it’s still going strong. This new version would improve some on my current method, but it’s hard to just ditch my old friend.

We love the aeropress GO. The red cap has two good functions. We use it to weigh out our beans into and then it folds to does your coffee into your aeropress. The 2nd thing it is good for is to fit under the travel cup to give it more friction to place on uneven surfaces when camping. ⛺️

On the contrary, I find the cap to be extremely useful as a bean measuring tray/funnel for handgrinders. It weighs almost exactly 50g, so if you forget to tare your scale, you can just do easy maths to get to your desired amount of coffee. Also, since the cap is pliable I can very easily shape it into a funnel so that beans flow into my handgrinder without creating a giant mess in the process.

I didn't like that magnetic thing on the lid. Apparently, it was made for Americans who mostly move around by car. I live in Europe, and in my use case, I put the mug in my bag and went on foot around the city. I made sure that the mug was always upright, but still, the coffee spilled all over my bag. It would be great if they made something more airtight than that magnetic thing. Now I'm looking for something to replace the standard lid, but there's nothing like that. This makes me regret paying the extra $40 for the thermal mug instead of buying a regular Aeropress and a good airtight thermal mug separately.

The original aero press go still fits amazing in Soto’s thermal stack cup. The thermal stack is an insulated cup that come apart into two cups and allow you to boil water and make your coffee and stack back into a thermal cup after. Best cup for backpacking with an AP or any pour over. The go plus is probably better suited for making coffee at work where you have a kettle. I also wish the stir stick wansnt plastic. So I don't think I'd ever scale it quite that far down - and yeah, I definitely prefer a metal filter + flow valve - but a thermal mug that actually fits the whole thing is tempting, since most of the other stainless-steel vacuum-wall travel mugs are *just* small enough that the sides of the aeropress can't vent when you're pressing it down...

It checks a lot of boxes, but it's heavy. With the current 20% off promotion it's definitely appealing, but I don't know how much use I would get out of it. What you’re referring to is called “inverted method” it’s not oficially recommended because it’s a lot easier to spill and make a huge mess - BUT a lot of people do it and it does eliminate drip through which has a marginal impact on brew quality. I would much rather drink out of a plastic cup than a metal tumbler, and the new design isn’t realistic for the demands of backpacking - polypropylene is much lighter and more impact resistant than stainless steel. But I’m happy that both exist concurrently.

Nice video. I agree about a ceremic cup... that would be great, but more expensive. I love my Sttoke! One other issue... i love the flow control, but that won't fit with the cup i assume 😢

Great video! What ist the length of the whole thing? There are no sizes mentioned on the Aeropress side. Would like to know, if it fits in my bag

I have two of the Aeropress Go's. One lives in my truck, and one lives in my backpack gear. The perfect Aeropress would be the Go with a double wall titanium mug and usable lid. That plastic mug is worthless at keeping coffee warm. This new Plus looks promising but too heavy for backpacking on the lite. My $0.02 Whats the perfect mug that nests with the GO?

Someone mentioned the soto thermostack cups fit! I rate them for the flexibility, they are light and already own the set.

I like the concept of the added tumbler but also agree that the plastic bottom base is a major issue for me. I have both a Yeti and a Kleen Kanteen tumbler that get dropped frequently but are built solid and hold up well to the road rash and dings from frequent falls. I know that it would only be a matter of time before that plastic base gets damaged and the tumbler becomes useless to me. If they update the base cap later with a metal one I’d be more prone to purchase it.

I bought a original AP back in '22 (when the price was ~35€), i think. Used it for about a 1.5 years. Brewed every single WAC recipe i could find. Then some other brewing device came along. Since then my original AP is collecting dust in the cupboard. I never understood the weird hype about the colors and why these are more expensive.

For me the AP is one I always come back to. Did I buy an orea? Yup. Next Level Pulsar? You bet. Do I also still use my AP? Absolutely. In my house it has staying power. But, some people also move on from it

I do like that it comes in a black travel cup. I've never had a cup of coffee from an Aero Press. I do a pour over directly into my travel cup with winged filters. I like to make a 16oz coffee and add cream in a 20 oz cup. The reason I have never purchased an Aero Press is I need a bigger cup of coffee.

Honestly, the first AP I ever bought was for $7 new in the box at a thrift store. I was like what is this? Then whenever I find them for a good price I buy it. This full price business is craaazyyyy!

I have the original and love it. Bought the Go, and love it. There are uses for both. But an $80 version, just dumb. It makes coffee and does so really well. Get the original and be done. Then enjoy.

My first and only aeropress is still the original aeropress go and I love it. Once I saw this one though my first thought was "that needs a ceramic liner" lol

What? the cap is one of the best features of the Aeropress Go. It acts as a dosing tray if you squeeze two opposing corners. the cap itself is a great tray for weighing and the dispensing the coffee beans into a coffee grinder. My only gripe with the aeropress go is that it does not fit the Fellow Prismo particularly well. Well, it does when it hot, but even then it is snug and it is a nightmare to remove when it cools down.

Clearly I am missing the boat on the go cap 🤣☕️

The red cap is great for weighing beans in. Its nice and wide so beans stay in, also can bend so easy to shoot the beans into my smallish 1zpresso Q2.

Re: the private equity thing, there were a few changes that were clear money grabs IMO. The number of filters you got in the package was cut down. I remember you used to get 100 or even 200 in many cases. That and the price increase is meh. Some of the new ideas felt rushed or half baked but overall, i think them jumping onto the trend of "same product, multi colors" is ok since they also arent aggressively pushing fake "limited edition" colors for example (looking at Swatch)

Also I have my trusty gold letter aero press still working though I had to finally replace the plunger on mine

We had a lot of years of aeropress not releasing anything that may have pleased the hardcore fans. But releasing new products makes the whole thing more fun and keeps the company going, have at it I say.

This was a fantastic review and I think you're 💯spot-on wrt the OG negativity. Excited for my Go Plus to arrive 🙂 That photo looks like The Grotto (lived near there in the 90s) - beautiful spot!

Would have been good to see a container for beans inside the centre of the press, or a compact grinder in that same space maybe🤷🏽♂️ Just feel that space is wasted by Aeropress, but will still likely buy one haha!

I hear you - but I also think they would have been accused of needlessly doing things to increase the price had they done this 🤣 I’ll often throw a couple doses in a ziploc bag and throw it in the middle. I’ve also heard the “knock” grinder fits in the middle and I believe also the timemore slim

I got a 2nd original AP, then a first Dark one, both used 1 while away serving the other at home as I got so used to useing it. Since then I got a further dark AP and this year my mrs got me the XL last year the Go but I got my set up diced in with a original AP I hardly use it. I have a fellow prizzmo I hardly use it but ok if ever needed. I like the new 'extra's' they are offering brings a wider market, unfortunately the price point is rising in UK its £50 for the new go + a AP is £35. The import tax is not making selling easy plus buying from USA we still pay the import.

I would also rather drink from an open cup. I find you get a better flavour, maybe because you can smell the coffee better as well as taste it.
