i live in Guatemala (central america) and i just got my first ak. Im left handed so is already hard. By law we only are allowed to own 223 calibers and any other pistol calibers. Also by law importers can only buy from big companies so it comes from the R country from kalash themselves. It costs about 5,600 dls and every round is about 60.cents US. (if you can find them). So happy to see how you guys can enojoy those rifles !

I'm stock safety crew. Use the middle finger instead of the index finger and rifle is fine.

Just put one in my Zastava. Makes operation of the safety more intuitive. I actually shaved mine down a bit. It makes it easier to do the left hand reach over charge. I love it overall.

My M92 Alpha came with a factory version of this. I spent 15 minutes trying to put the Khyber SS one in before realizing.... there's already one there.

The retaining plate is a godsend, it’s extremely easy in comparison to the shepherds hook

Sooo… i like the first upgrade with the safety… Zastava grips are good so you can skip it for awhile… muzzle device would be a close second… Khyber slings are LIT! I need that shirt! I also need that MK62 lower for my Romy UF

I built my First AKM using polish parts. I would say there isn't much to really upgrade on your ak the safety really is all your need other accessories is if you wanna make it look and perform better but i do recommend that retainer for the pins helps a-lot for changing triggers out.

I don't like the curve on the "shelf" on the Krebs. If you have a safety that takes a bit of force, it's less comfortable to use at the least, or can make your finger slide off at worst. I like a flat shelf on the safety, which was how the 1st gen version was. Having access to a welder makes adding that easy peasy, though.

I’m a carpenter with over 30 years behind the trigger of all tools. First thing I do is remove safety garbage if possible on tools or never use them. That crap only makes things more dangerous

Yep. Every person I know with an AK that had that piece of shit paper clip still in it, I'd order them a $10 Tapco retaining plate. I've seen a WASR, about 10-12 years ago, where the shepherd's hook slipped off the trigger pin, and the gun fired about 5 times in a row. Buddy looks at us with wide eyes, he's a newer gun owner, I told him "Run the charging handle." I should have been more specific cause of course he should have unloaded that mag first! He ran it and the rifle emptied the rest of the mag into the ground 5 feet in front of the guy! Luckily he had good control and just rode it out! After that I NEVER let friends or family have one without a retaining plate in it!

Everywhere I've been in the world and seen cops or soldiers on duty with an AK their safety catch is set to the semi-auto position. I'm pretty sure in the real world the AK safety isn't an issue. Having an empty chamber is safety and that's how most military and police around the world do it. When jumping out of a vehicle the safety must be on to stop the bolt carrier movement caused by inertia. It makes sense that you do not chamber a round unless you're confident shooting is about to commence. Also, racking the bolt is way more intimidating than flipping off the safety because of the loud noise. Seems reasonable to me that you should put at least a few hundred rounds through the weapon first before you change anything. At that point you might decide you don't want to bother it with and you can sell it unmolested and without having wasted any money on upgrades buyers might not approve of. Doesn't sell spare parts though I suppose.

Do you make the selector without a notch cut into it (to hold the bolt back)? I don't personally like the notch because the selector doubles as a dust guard. It doesn't work as well when a hole is created. I live in a dusty desert.

Installed enhanced safety lever and attempted to install the retaining plate but my m92 tactical didn't have a Shepards hook but instead what looks like an retaining plate from the factory.....hmmmm

If you have large hands the factory safety is fine. I don’t have to move my hand from grip to flip it, smaller hand dudes definitely benefit from enhanced safety

I have big dumb banana hands so I can manipulate the factory safety easily without breaking my grip at all, but I still usually put a enhanced safety on my AKs. It just works better.

Well.... It depends. I'm left handed shooter (Don't bully me). Before you buy any enhanced safety lever, try bending the original one to the outside, when it's set verticaly to the gun. It shall make a difference. My first AK upgrade? Proper 30-round magazine instead of shitty 10-rounder. Meta ones would be great, but Pmags are also working :)

Your new rail is out of spec. The pic rail at the bottom is too small. I tried 3 different vertical grips and they won’t tighten up. That was a waste of money
