The funny thing about this anime is actually The creator of this show was a super big DnD nerd but all his party members left to do real life things soo basically this anime shows his solo Dnd Run and that concept was freaking wild and fun and sad at the same time..like you got so lonely you spawned an anime..lol

Yeah pretty much sums it up and probably one of the reasons I love it so much. I've been apart of 3 different dnd groups before I finally started my own, my first time DMing is actually an Overlord campaign and it's going absolutely fantastic, my players love it.

Overlord is my second favourite Anime (after One Piece) because of how its written and for all 8 songs (endings too) there were only 5 people involved (that we know of) EDIT: i think all songs were not chosen but made for the anime.

You should check the anime: 1. fantasy rpg setting, so all kind of fantasy creatures: elves, goblins, dragons, trolls, ogres and ofc, all types of undead... 2. a bit alterantive approach to main character... what if you were not a hero starting from 0, but in position of power, like a final boss of a game? :)

I remember reading how hyped people were when the season 4 intro released, with Pandora's Actor finally standing alongside the other main characters. It was like watching a child grow up, from getting barely any screen time to becoming one of the mainside characters who plays an active role in the story.

This was cool, highly recommend the anime. Skeleton mage is the Antagonist. boy is transported into high game character and how he handles living in that world. heaps of fun and mystery and political warfare. one of my top 10 anime

Overlord's openings do give you teasers about what you're gonna see... they're just all out of context completely. you don't know which characters are friends, foes, or neither. Overlord is among the best anime I've seen, and I've been watching for 2 decades now and have seen older stuff as well. It's a lot of creative fun and world building that takes a lot of inspiration from DnD apparently (so everyone says but I've never played). Great series to watch if you have a mind to. Can get a little dark but it all makes sense within the framework of the world and magic systems as presented. The openings are all hype. The endings are all sentimental, so they follow a certain trope about anime OPs and EDs but they're also worth reacting to. But yes, the big skeleton guy is the titular overlord. To give you some context, he was playing a game while it was being shut down for good and... well... he and his guild's headquarters and npc's were transported to another world somehow. He is now his character and the NPC's have come alive and can think and act on their own... but still have characters in line with the way their creators intended them to act and behave. And most of the guild role-played as both inhuman and evil characters. So as you can imagine, that makes things interesting for the MC, the overlord, and ofc, the needs and pressures of the new world do come into play. Not to mention that his new body does affect his mind and emotions a decent amount. As I said, it's great at worldbuilding and introduces a TON of characters who are both memorable and integral to the story.

The only non spoiler spoiler that I can give you is - this anime is like you watch Lord of the Rings from the Sauron's perspective in a way. Its not exactly the same situation, but you are basically rooting for the bad guy here.

"Anime These Days" Overlord is only 2 years older than AoT as far as Anime (And that's only first seasons Since AoT had a four year gap between season 1 and 2). And less than a year apart in their source materials (Manga for AoT and Web Novel for Overlord)

All the songs are performed by OxT (all openings, except the 3rd) and MYTH&ROID (all endings, except the 3rd, where the roles were reversed. Also, the 4th ending is sung by a former MYTH&ROID, but I still count as such 😁)

U re not that wrong i would say, Overlord is a Isekai, means the main protagonist is living in another world for whatever reason (death etc, leave it to your imagination.) In this term the skeleton guy, is the main character, it is his game avatar and he ends for reason in that body. The world is just a high fantasy world based on the medieval game world. Btw great reaction, very enjoyable. Hope u gonna go and watch this anime (reaction series incoming? :D )

Hate how they put the "click for other stuff" overlays ON the actual OP, it's such a dick thing. Just add a card at the end to put that shit on. Guess they only figured it out later. I really like the show, I'm quite into high fantasy, including isekai with interesting hooks, and I like the different angle the series tackles it from. If I had to level a criticism, going so wide with a lot of characters means there isn't space to go as deep as I'd like on so many of them.

My biggest advice to someone new to anime, especially in the context of Overlord (the dub is honestly better acted/more true to the books than the japanese version), is PLEASE don't let the anime "sub-only" crowd bully you into subbed. Dubs are fantastic these days, and in general you will likely miss much of the subtext created by slang and small details the subs often miss when translating since it's spoken word to text. Unless you speak the native language, that is lol. Hope ya enjoy regardless!
