Nice! That short version will make mobile Installation a lot easier.

It would be so nice if these manufacturers would make a radio like this with a detachable faceplate. This way you could connect the radio faceplate with the chassis with the ribbon cable just like a ham radio rig. That way it is more friendly whenever you want to install it in your car or truck
@ScottsRadios3 ай бұрын
That might be a possibility in the future but most would probably opt for a full plush most would probably opt for a full fledged 160-10 or 6m HF model at that point.

The AT 5555N2 to me is a very good talking radio. I have one I'm using as a base setup now. I've had it about 1 1/2 years. I tried it in my mobile, but didn't like it. It talked great in the mobile, but I didn't like the screen display washout on sunny days. You had to hold your hand over the display to even see it.Another thing I wished the manufacturer would have offered was the color change display like the Quad 6 has a long with back lit push buttons. Other than that I really like the radio.

The Quad 6 Pro would be great option for mobile. Virtually nothing else I want to run at this time in my mobile.

I also have a CRT SS6900V mobile radio. I have it installed in one of my vehicles and really like it. It's the same radio as the Anytone 5555 Plus. I like the separate channel select along with the frequency display. One thing I didn't like about the CRT SS6900V is the factory mic is super small. Plus it's a dynamic microphone. I actually converted mine to a electret microphone replacing the dynamic capsule with a electret. Still the small size is a problem for me. I replaced it with a Superstar electret microphone.

I just bought the long version, before hearing about the new short version. I’m glad they shortened it, they took up a lot of extra space for no reason.

I bought the N II updated version with weather band earlier this year and was upset it wasn't programmable 136-174 like the ARES II is. So glad they addressed that on this new 2024 Short Version. Was there some other mod that would benefit FT8 usage? Someone said there was but I haven't seen it quantified yet. Perhaps RX audio on the mic connector or maybe an extra jack on the rear? Wish they would have made it the N III to be clear on what revision you are getting.
@ScottsRadios3 ай бұрын
Yes it has RX audio on the mic connector via menu option.

@@ScottsRadios can you post a pic of the new mic wiring chart somewhere? Want to get them started on a new digirig cable.
@AlienCatcher233 ай бұрын
So what differentiates this when it comes to digital modes compared to the longer version? Do you still need a digirig? Noticed you mentioned it can do digital modes out of the box.
@r3dbeard3 ай бұрын
@@AlienCatcher23 yes a digirig or signalink is still needed. As he stated above they put receive audio on a pin on the mic jack to make cabling easier. Now only one cable is needed from your interface to the mic jack instead of also having to connect another wire to the speaker output.

I have the Radioddity QT 60 and that the long one. Still very happy with it. not going to run out and get a short one. I do FT8 /FT4 /JS8 call /SSTV and more on mine. It is a Digi-rig with anytone cable set that gets that on FT8. have to use EXT speaker jack in back as well. the cable set just plugs in and works. very easy hardwear set up. it's the settings in WSJT X and radio mic and volume that are tricky. once you get it it works very well. With power down ,I sent hartbeat JS8 call for hours and called CQ FT4 and FT8 hours and no heating problems. Their is a update tp WSJT-X to do super FOX and HOUND mode. I haven't tried it yet. The FCC changed the rules from baud rate to bandwidth . Going to be some nice changes to digital modes . I think the new one has the CTCSS/DTC on frequency on display . I copied the chart and laminated it and keep with radio. I do 10 meter repeaters with the QT 60. very nice radio for the $$. 73's

Did you buy from China? I can't find the short version. They're all 305mm from nob to end of heatsink.

Most of them have already switched over to the short version. Understandably so it can be confusing because they have not changed the name. I would definitely recommend what I said in the video by asking before purchasing.

@@ScottsRadios I did and they think they are selling the short version, but when you compare the three holes near the front bottom screw, the distance from the screw indicates they're still selling the long unit. They're sales profiles say 305mm. Can you measure the short one and report back please? I'd love to buy one of these CB's but at 305mm long it's a nightmare to mount in my van.
