It's quite rare to have someone genuinely excited these days about buying in a new bit of tech. The bigger KZbinrs out there are all jaded! Having to save, and then splash out your own cash for gear (and not return it) really does make the whole experience so much more worthwhile, and as we see on the video, genuine! Here's hoping the excitement lasts for a long time!

you might want to consider h265 now. It represents a dramatic space savings. If I had to keep my home DVD/Bluray rips in h264, I would need like another 25TB in my NAS array. I have a similar issue with my displays on Windows where one monitor is delayed from the other so if I move a window up and down between the two then one is delayed. However there is a reason, they are two different monitors. One is 144Hz TN panel and the other is 60Hz IPS. Your monitors seem to be the same and I'm not that familiar with OSX but I would check to make sure that both screens are running at the same refresh rate. Otherwise like you said this could be the hub introducing a delay on one.

I actually had the same Window lagging issue as shown at about 1:06:32 with an Intel MacBook Pro (2018 version) that I man unable to explain to this day, connecting a different MacBook from the same generation and it did not have the issue. The strange color shift I only know from my LG 4K Displays that sometimes after reconnecting them end up in HDR-Mode. Even though your Monitors don't have HDR, perhaps check the Monitor settings if for some strange reason they are in high contrast mode.

Great video Tom. Did I hear correctly you export video direct to your NAS? curious.
@ItsMyNaturalColour3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Dave! Yes that's correct. I started doing it a number of years ago when I still lived with my parents. The upload speed was so poor, it would take sometimes up to 12 hours to upload the longer IMNC videos. I started exporting to a network share so that I could use a headless Mac mini as a KZbin upload box, meaning I could power the Mac Pro down rather than leaving it chugging away for hours on end just to upload a video to KZbin. Once I got a decent connection and upload time was less of a concern, the habit still stuck as I found other advantages. Exporting directly to my NAS means that I never have to remember or allocate time to transferring the videos when local storage becomes full. The files are exported directly to the location in which they'll be stored permanently. It also means that they become part of my nightly share clone/backup, so for example, the exported video that I finished on a Monday, is in 3 different locations automatically by the time I wake up on Tuesday morning. Handy as I don't always upload to KZbin right away, I've got a nice safety net if something happens to the primary NAS. The main advantage however is that I never have to focus on storage when I chose a main system. This Mac mini has 256GB, my MacBook Pro has 256GB, and my Hackintosh had... yep, 256GB. Also makes for a really clean and simple system; fast to restore from Time Machine, fast spotlight indexing etc, as I'm only dealing with around 100GB-150GB maximum stored locally on the internal drive. At the moment, my scratch disk is still locally connected however. I edit from an external SSD. I migrate monthly libraries to my NAS at the beginning of each new month, and I've used this method for years. I will be going down a very different route soon though, and I'm very excited about it. Videos on that coming up next. Apologies for the tangent, Dave... haha! Hope all is well.

So I notice you zoom in a lot on the screens to make everything very readable. I'm legally blind and one of the things that has held me back from trying a mac is just having to re-adjust to accessibility options. Is there a video on how you do things like that or can you tell me what I should google so I can get an idea of how it works in depth? Thanks!
@ItsMyNaturalColour3 жыл бұрын
Really happy to be answering this question for you as it's something that I'm definitely passionate about. One of the biggest reasons I switched to the Mac in 2007 was for the accessibility features. The main feature that I use nonstop is the screen zoom that you refer to. If you use Windows zoom accessibility feature, the Mac equivalent is much better. It has several different options and can be perfectly customised. I use 'follow the cursor' style zooming, activated by my scroll wheel while holding the COMMAND key. It's second nature to me now. As for other accessibility features for the visually impaired, they've added a lot over the years and it's now the strongest of any platform I believe. High contrast mode, reduced transparency, motion options, all sorts of things. Dark mode system wide is also a big help for me personally. When you get a brand new Mac out of the box, one of the very first steps of the Big Sur setup wizard is the configuration of accessibility features, so you can enable zoom right from the get go and you're good to go. There's a basic rundown from Apple here: support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mh35884/mac Just for the excellent zoom alone, I could never move away from the Mac. I find any other platform a chore now. Really hope this was helpful.

Hey It'sMyNaturalColor , one Q. I have noticed that the m1 mac mini for the UK unit comes with a 3 prong power plug but the end of the cord where it connects to the mac mini is a two pin. So will the grounding/ earthing work?? Secondly if the UK unit comes with a three prong plug, why does the other unit and Indian unit comes with a two prong plug and cord. No grounding/earthing. I don't understand what is apple doing. Without earthing/ grounding wire, it's not safe with a metal body. It's a very basic thing. I believe it's a UK regulation and requirement, but will the grounding/earthing work if the other end is not three pin. Other question is if you happen to know, does the m1 mac mini uses a ACTIVE PFC Power supply or a passive pfc. It sure uses a pfc type but not sure which one. I contacted apple support in my country, no clue. Checked community support, no threads. If you can find out, it'd be great for us mac mini users. I don't have the resources to find. Also one question about ups, if you happen to know. Can i use a simulated sine wave type ups like a line interactive ups which are cheap for the m1 mac mini or do i need to use a pure sine wave type ups which are very costly but are very very safe and very accurate and clean AC currents and no voltage fluctuations whatsoever and therefore very costly.

I love your videos, your point of view. I own a second hand 2011 Mac mini and I hope one day to have an experience like yours, maybe with a M1 for the same reason you told. You deserve that piece of Apple history. Ciao!

Top video mate. I love your enthusiasm! Out of curiously, why are you using windows layout keyboards as opposed to Mac?
@ItsMyNaturalColour3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I've found very limited keyboard options with the Mac layout. I moved away from an Apple keyboard a long time ago and don't miss the Mac keys at all. I do remap the alt key to act as command, and the Windows key to act as option.

Good to see you excited. I was as well until a week into ownership (M1 Mini 16gb/2tb). Just too many problems, glitches and crashes. Apple are sending out a replacement but the whole thing does feel like they've taken the cake out of the oven before it was ready. Our M1 MacBookAir on the otherhand seems great. BUT, there's no peripherals hanging off it and an internal screen. Maybe the Mini doesn't like being a desktop.

I really hope you get some more luck with the replacement.

have you considered a dual monitor arm? might be some form of relief from having one monitor on the riser
@ItsMyNaturalColour3 жыл бұрын
I have been keeping monitor arms in mind. I'm still undecided about my future with regards to displays, so I'm holding off on any arm purchases until I decide what I'm doing. I'll explain more in the next part of this video.

Hey Tom, Re: the Logitech stuff. The G Hub software from Logitech does an amazing job on the Mac. Great control over my G613 keyboard and G604 Mouse.

If I recall the tearing isn't the monitors, it's the hardware. I read an article before that discussed tearing and what you need to set to fix it....

Do you happen to have a link?

@@ItsMyNaturalColour Its been a while and plus I will need to figure out where I read it... :( I'll see if I can find it... It might of been a YT video. All I recall is they specifically talked about the tearing

It always bothers me that mechanical keyboards don’t come with alternate Mac key caps for the command and option keys. I had to settle for a Perixx membrane keyboard if I wanted one that looked the part.
@ItsMyNaturalColour3 жыл бұрын
This was a huge gripe of mine at one point too, and it stopped me swapping to a mechanical keyboard for years.... but since somewhat reluctantly swapping to the K65 a few years back, all is good. I really don't notice the keycaps at all. I remap command and option, then I forget about it. Worth it over typing on a membrane, definitely.

@@ItsMyNaturalColour Absolutely. My main desktop is my Linux PC, on which I’m using a Cooler Master keyboard with Cherry MX Red switches. I acquired a 2012 Mac Mini just to poke around at what I was missing out on, and needed a keyboard for it, hence the Perixx. For a membrane, the Perixx is fine, but there’s nothing special about it. Good uniform key actuation, unlike a Logitech membrane, though. Logitechs are a little spongey, in my opinion.

Great video TOm. Takes me back to when I unboxed my first new Mac, a 2007 1.83GHZ Mac mini. I really want another one of those. You got more in the box back then; apple remote, display adapters and of course physical install media. I'm waiting for the next generation of the mini or the new 16 inch MacBook Pro before I jump in, as much as I wanted to try the first ten products for myself.
@ItsMyNaturalColour3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Ashley! Good to hear from you my friend hope all is well. 2007 Mac mini... absolutely splendid time to buy a Mac I bet. There will always be something magical about that era of Apple.

I guess, the "purple thing" is due to background tinting. I'd turn that off in system preferences.
