New Army Pass - Hiking Northbound on the John Muir Trail

New Army Pass is the first pass northbound on the Pacific Crest Trail from the Cottonwood Lakes trailhead. Started the day from Cottonwood Lakes, up and over the pass, visited Soldier Lake and ended up at the Rock Creek camping spot.

It looks totally free of snow! Did you encounter any on the way up? What time in the season was this? I’m thinking about doing this pass this summer..

This was in August, so yes, totally free of snow. I think even July 2023 was free. Old Army Pass might have had snow in July. Enjoy!
