Liz, I've just watched you going through what must be about 80% of your art supply range and have so enjoyed your enthusiasm, hope you don't mind me saying, just like a kid in a sweetie shop! You've just made an old(ish) lady laugh out loud, thank you. Am off to buy some paint sticks tomorrow and I'll clear my table (I'm so untidy) and try everything I have with them - chuckling away all the time as I remember you! Thanks for the info and the entertainment, both very much appreciated. 💖 from a freezing Scotland 😊

Hullo Liz, I admire your vim n verve! I have reached my 60’s and I have traded away my Epson Large format printer, so no more pigment printing of prints for me. I am going to concentrate on traditional art that stands on its own and I will not be using “questionable” mediums without any lightfast information. I have made watercolors for many years and I am picking up soft pastels for creating original artwork that is quite amazing! I have created art with just about everything that you can buy or pickup off the ground! As long as you can take a photo of it you can replicate it in print or similar processes! Now I want to make original pieces that can stand alone. I do enjoy watching your videos and seeing how you branch out in exciting new ways, good on you!

@mjpete272 ай бұрын
@ I suppose that I did so much work for clients and I was always putting my ideas to the side for “later” now I have a cue of to do lists even putting my ideas on paper or a canvas depending on what medium I’m thinking of working with! I have to many things that I want to accomplish and finish up before I simply run out of time!

I gave in to temptation, too. I was pleasantly surprised at how once they’re dry (and they dry really fast) how I could do anything over them. They’re a little water soluble so they smear into that wonderfully. Only complaint is that I can’t get them to blend like I want.

Curious to see what you do with the tempera paint sticks! I have a (smaller) set in my car as well, love them! When used with gesso, they are permanent, a technique I love using in my art books with layers
@LizChadertonStudio2 ай бұрын
how do you mean? Do you prime the paper with gesso, dry then use the sticks?
@leenb.79362 ай бұрын
@ both with gesso first or with the tempera sticks first (so no priming, though a primed page with gesso that got the dry completely does tolerate more) but no waiting in between and VERY messy, mostly with my hands (love having paint on my hands, kinda makes me feel like it extends my “playtime” a bit) 😅😂 When starting with gesso though, only works with a thin layer but it’s still messy and you don’t get a uniform looking color but that can be fun as well. When the gesso gets on the sticks, it’s easy to rub/peel off the very slick plastic and to the paint sticks it’s not that it damages them, just like with a glue stick, hou can get stuff on the stick itself but cleans off easily enough. Easiest way is tempera sticks first and then gesso on top. You get a more pastel version of the stick color or a more opaque version (but still lighter and a somewhat transparent looking color if you get what I mean) of the neon colors even. I love alternating gesso and the sticks 1 color at a time but with not even half a minute of waiting in between. Hope my comment makes enough sense, bit awkward explaining with words only 😅

Tempera paintsticks ? Never heard or seen. Is it real tempera, egg tempera, that old traditional tempera from the midddle age, the time before invention of oil paints ? Years ago I did a weird seaming experiment: painting with a crushed flowerpot, mixed with a complete egg, on a pressbord, primed by white wall colour. Only really simple big aereas covered by bold strokes. It was ( who wonders ? ) burned sienna ! The brush was ruined, immediately !! Years after it turened into yellow-ochre. 😞 and 🙂 Thank you for showing !
@LizChadertonStudio2 ай бұрын
no not egg tempera, more like a creamy solid version of gouache but not as opaque. It’s a kid supply, so I can’t imagine there’s anything as good as an egg in it! That’s sounds like a bizarre experiment - good for you!
