The 2024 Audi Q5 maintains its status as one of the best luxury crossovers on the market, even if it doesn't stray far from the established formula. A solid all-arounder, the Q5 continues to excel at blending comfort, premium amenities, and decent performance into an attractive yet understated package.
For 2024, the Q5 gets a handful of minor updates. Adaptive cruise control and Audi's adaptive cruise assist tech are now standard across the lineup, enhancing the SUV's driver assistance capabilities. The brand's latest infotainment software enables remote start from a smartphone app, along with integrated support for Spotify and Amazon Music streaming.
As before, the Q5 offers three powertrain choices. The base 40 model uses a 201-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo-four, while the 45 sports a gutsier 261-hp version of the same engine. At the top, the plug-in hybrid 55 e makes a potent 362 hp combined. While far from blistering, straight-line performance is adequate in the 40 and 45, with the punchy 55 e delivering genuinely quick acceleration.
The Q5's true strength, however, lies in its overall refinement and day-to-day livability. The cabin is a master class in understated luxury, with an ergonomic layout and high-quality materials throughout. Supportive seats and ample passenger space make long drives comfortable. And despite being one of Audi's smaller crossovers, the Q5 still offers a decent 26 cubic feet of cargo room behind the rear seats.
On the road, the 2024 Q5 is a smooth, quiet operator that isolates occupants from road imperfections. Precise steering and capable handling make it reasonably fun, if not overtly sporty. Buyers looking for more excitement can opt for the hotter SQ5 performance variant or cross-shop rivals like the Porsche Macan and BMW X3.
With a starting price of $46,495, the Q5 straddles the line between mainstream and luxury offerings. Fully loaded models can crest $60,000, putting them in competition with larger mid-size crossovers. That's a lot to pay for a crossover without a particularly bold design or cutting-edge tech.
Still, the 2024 Q5 remains one of the quintessential luxury crossovers by checking all the right boxes for customers who prioritize a serene, upscale experience in a right-sized package. It may not dazzle, but the Q5 provides a satisfying blend of comfort, capability, and cachet that has made it one of Audi's best-selling models.
